Schedule the event in YouTube Studio, then use an encoder to send the prerecorded video as the live feed. Scheduling creates the upcoming broadcast page; it does not make a video file play by itself. The encoder must be ready to provide the video at the scheduled time.
What you need to set up
- A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming and access to YouTube Studio.
- A prerecorded video and an encoder that can play it as the outgoing stream. The encoder may be software on a computer or a dedicated hardware unit.
- A reliable upload connection and the YouTube server URL and stream key for the event.
YouTube lists OBS among software encoder options and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. Choose an encoder whose current documentation confirms the media playback, playlist, looping, and start controls you need. YouTube’s general scheduling instructions do not specify how to configure those controls in a particular encoder.
Schedule the YouTube event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live.
- Open Manage and select Schedule stream.
- Choose to reuse settings from a previous event or create a new event. Add the event details and schedule it. YouTube creates an upcoming watch page that you can share; viewers can request reminders.
- In the event setup, find the YouTube server URL and stream key. Copy them into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room.
The event and the video feed are separate: YouTube schedules the broadcast, while the encoder sends the audiovisual content to YouTube’s server using the stream key.
Configure the encoder to play the video
- In the encoder, set the streaming destination to the YouTube server URL and enter the event’s stream key. Use the encoder’s current official instructions for the exact fields and menu labels.
- Add the prerecorded video as the encoder’s outgoing media source, or create a playlist if the encoder supports one. Set looping or timed start only if the encoder provides those controls and you want them. YouTube scheduling alone does not start local-file playback.
- Set the output resolution and bitrate to values the computer and upload connection can sustain. YouTube recommends testing the stream and matching quality to available upload bandwidth. For transport, YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension of RTMP. HLS is an alternative for supported codecs or HDR, but has higher latency than RTMP and protocol-specific constraints.
- Check the encoder’s protocol, codec, and keyframe settings against YouTube’s current requirements. YouTube recommends a keyframe every 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Run a private or unlisted test when possible. Confirm the video, audio, aspect ratio, and stream stability in YouTube’s preview before the public event.
Playback behavior varies by encoder. Do not assume that adding a file automatically makes it repeat, begin at a scheduled time, or resume after the encoder closes; verify those behaviors in the encoder’s current documentation and test them before relying on automation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Start and monitor the scheduled broadcast
- Set up the encoder at least 2 hours before the event, as YouTube recommends.
- Start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start so YouTube can receive the feed and you can inspect the Live Control Room preview.
- When the preview is correct, select Go live in Live Control Room if the event requires that confirmation. Continue monitoring picture and sound during the broadcast.
- At the end, end the broadcast in Live Control Room and stop the encoder from sending. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Keep the video and broadcast rights-ready
Having permission to upload a video does not necessarily mean you have permission to retransmit it as a live stream. Before scheduling, check that you have the rights needed for every video, music track, image, and other material in the feed. Review YouTube’s current copyright rules and live-stream policies, and avoid relying on a claim that a video is safe simply because it is already online. Repeated or mostly reused material can also raise monetization-policy questions; check YouTube’s current reused-content guidance if monetization matters to your channel.
For a practical preflight, use the copyright safety checklist. This is a planning aid, not a substitute for permission from rights holders or YouTube’s rules.

Common problems and fixes
- The scheduled page exists, but no video appears: the event is only the broadcast listing. Confirm that the encoder is running, connected to the correct server URL, and sending the intended media source.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: check the destination URL and stream key for that event, verify the encoder is online, and confirm the connection can sustain the selected bitrate. Reset the stream key if you believe it has been exposed.
- The stream starts, but the video is black or frozen: inspect the encoder’s media source, file path, playback state, and output preview. Check the file and codec against what the encoder supports, and test again before the scheduled broadcast.
- The video plays once and stops: looping is controlled by the encoder, not by YouTube’s schedule. Enable looping or build a playlist in the encoder if it supports that behavior.
- Audio is missing, distorted, or out of sync: check the source’s audio track and the encoder’s audio input and output settings; verify with a test stream and the YouTube preview.
- The broadcast is unstable: lower the bitrate or resolution to fit the available upload bandwidth, use YouTube’s recommended keyframe interval, and test the connection before going live.
- The stream key may have leaked: reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement key.
Run the video from your own encoder or from the cloud?
A local encoder gives you control over the playback setup, but the computer and connection must remain available for the broadcast. If you want a scheduled video stream to continue without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed.
Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload your recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Every quality is included at one price per slot, up to 4K 60fps as uploaded, with no re-encode or quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start your free first day.
