Connect the FFmpeg computer to your Airtel Xstream router—preferably by Ethernet—measure the upload speed the computer actually gets, then configure FFmpeg to send a YouTube-compatible stream over RTMPS. Do not choose a bitrate from the advertised Airtel plan speed: YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations include 8 Mbps for 720p30 and 10 Mbps for 1080p30, but your stream bitrate must leave room below the upload capacity your connection sustains.
What you need before configuring FFmpeg
- An Airtel Xstream connection and a router with a free LAN port if you plan to use Ethernet.
- A computer that can read the video source and encode it continuously. The exact capacity depends on the video, resolution, codec and FFmpeg build.
- A video file or other FFmpeg input, and a YouTube Live event with its ingestion endpoint and stream key.
- A stable upload connection. An advertised plan tier is not a measurement or guarantee of upload performance.
Airtel’s broadband plan page advertises tiers from ₹499 at up to 40 Mbps to ₹3,999 at up to 1 Gbps, with prices exclusive of taxes and plan availability and terms varying by location. These are plan-tier figures, not a promise of sustained upload speed for an individual subscriber. Connect the computer to the Airtel router
Prefer wired LAN for a fixed streaming setup
Where practical, connect an Ethernet cable from the computer to a LAN port on the Airtel router. Ethernet avoids Wi-Fi as one source of variation between the computer and router; it cannot prevent an ISP outage or guarantee a steady upload. Wi-Fi can also work, but signal strength, interference and other wireless traffic may affect consistency.
A Cat 6 cable is an optional choice, not a universal requirement. Check the computer’s network port or adapter, the router’s available ports and the cable length you need before buying one.

Access router settings only if you have a reason
Airtel’s router help page gives 192.168.1.1 as a default management address and advises checking the router label for the address and credentials. Connect to the router by LAN or Wi-Fi before opening its management page. The interface and login details can differ by model and may change, so use the label or Airtel’s model-specific guidance rather than assuming universal credentials. Measure upload speed and choose a stream profile
Test the actual streaming path
- Use the computer and router connection you intend to stream from.
- Pause competing uploads, cloud backups and other heavy network use while testing.
- Run multiple upload tests, including at times when the connection is likely to be busy.
- Choose a bitrate comfortably below the sustained upload results, rather than matching the best single test.
- Retest if YouTube reports stream-health problems or FFmpeg shows dropped frames.
YouTube explicitly recommends running a speed test to test upload bitrate. A speed test is a snapshot, not a guarantee that the connection will hold that rate around the clock. Leave headroom for variation and any other traffic on the connection.

Use YouTube’s H.264 figures as starting points

These are YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations on its encoder-settings page, accessed in 2026. Match the exact resolution and frame-rate row; if upload performance varies, choose a lower profile or bitrate that leaves more headroom. Create the YouTube Live stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, create or select the Live event you intend to use, following the current YouTube Live workflow.
- Copy the ingestion endpoint and stream key YouTube provides for that stream.
- Use RTMPS when your encoder and the YouTube endpoint support it. YouTube documents RTMPS as its secure streaming option and accepts RTMP/RTMPS ingestion.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not publish it, include it in screenshots, or expose it in a public script or log. If it is disclosed, replace it in YouTube Studio before continuing.
Exact Studio labels can change. Use the endpoint and key shown for the event rather than copying an endpoint from an unrelated example.

Configure FFmpeg for a looping file
This illustrative command loops a local file and sends H.264 video with AAC audio to YouTube. It uses 720p30’s listed 8 Mbps H.264 recommendation as an example only; that bitrate is not automatically safe for an Airtel connection. Replace the input path, endpoint and key, and adjust the profile to match your source, measured upload capacity and computer.

input.mp4: use the path to your actual source file. Confirm that FFmpeg can read it and that it contains the audio you expect.-r 30,-g 60and-keyint_min 60: this example targets 30 fps and a 60-frame, two-second GOP. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds; match the GOP to your chosen frame rate.-b:vand-maxrate: set a video target appropriate to the chosen YouTube profile and your tested upload. A bitrate setting cannot make an unstable connection reliable.-bufsize: this example uses a 16 Mbps buffer value. YouTube lists H.264, H.265 and AV1 among accepted video codecs, but H.264 is used here for a straightforward example. YouTube supports up to 60 fps. Test before leaving a stream unattended
- Start FFmpeg and check its output for input, encoding or connection errors.
- Inspect the YouTube Live preview and stream-health messages. YouTube advises testing with representative motion and audio and monitoring health during a live event.
- Check that the stream plays as intended, including its audio, resolution and frame rate.
- Let the test run long enough to observe whether upload variation or encoding load causes problems. A successful short test does not guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
- For continuous operation, run FFmpeg under an operating-system process supervisor that records failures and can restart the process. Also monitor source-file availability, disk space if you are recording, the router and YouTube stream health.
A process supervisor can restart FFmpeg after a process failure; it cannot restore a failed source file, repair an Airtel outage or guarantee that YouTube will remain available.

For the setup described here, FFmpeg initiates an outbound connection to YouTube over RTMPS. The official setup guidance cited above does not establish that Airtel customers need bridge mode, a public or static IP address, or inbound port forwarding for ordinary outbound publishing. Do not change those settings just because you are streaming. If FFmpeg cannot connect, use its actual error and YouTube’s stream-health information to investigate first; ask Airtel for router- and account-specific guidance if the connection problem appears to be on its side.

A technically healthy stream is not automatically cleared for the material it plays or for monetization. Before looping a recording, confirm that you have the rights or permissions needed for every video, music track and other included material. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions are separate from whether FFmpeg can transmit the stream; this Airtel and encoder setup does not establish that a particular recording is permitted or eligible for monetization.
