1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThere is no documented YouTube setting that automatically reopens the last video or livestream after a TV or streaming device reboots. The practical approach is to configure the device to launch YouTube—or a browser page—at startup, then test whether that device returns to the right video. YouTube autoplay handles what plays after a video ends; it is not reboot recovery.
What YouTube does—and does not—resume
Autoplay is not a startup setting
YouTube describes autoplay as playing another related video after the current one ends. It does not document autoplay as a way to relaunch the app or restore playback after a reboot. Autoplay settings can also differ by device. YouTube’s autoplay help notes that autoplay may stop after 30 minutes of inactivity on a mobile network or four hours on Wi-Fi; those limits are not reboot timers.
Saved progress can help with an on-demand video
For a partially watched uploaded video, YouTube says it will “usually” resume from the saved position when you select it again. That is a qualified aid, not a promise that a reboot will automatically reopen the video. The progress bar depends on watch history; clearing watch history removes progress bars. See YouTube’s video progress guidance.
A livestream is different from an ordinary uploaded video: the progress-bar guidance does not establish that a live broadcast will resume at the same point after a reboot. Treat the stream’s return behavior as device- and content-dependent.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Try the TV or streaming device you already have
- Check startup and power recovery settings. Look in the device’s settings for options that determine what happens after power returns or which app opens at startup. Menu names and capabilities vary by make, model, and operating system.
- Check whether YouTube can launch automatically. If the device offers an app-at-startup option, set it to YouTube. A power-recovery setting alone only addresses power; it does not restore YouTube’s playback state.
- Sign in and verify watch progress. For an on-demand study video, sign in to the account used for viewing and confirm that the video has a progress bar. After restarting, open it again from history or the relevant continue-watching interface and check the position.
- Test the complete reboot path. Restart the device, allow time for the network connection, and observe whether YouTube opens, requires sign-in, needs a manual click, or returns to a different screen. Repeat with the exact video or stream you want to watch.
YouTube’s help does not promise that its TV app will reopen the last livestream after a full power reboot. If your device has no automatic app launch option, you may need to reopen YouTube manually.
Use a Raspberry Pi or computer as a browser kiosk
A Raspberry Pi configured to boot into a browser kiosk is one DIY way to open a chosen YouTube page after startup. Raspberry Pi documents boot behavior and configuration at Boot behaviour and Configuration. The community pi-kiosk project describes launching Chromium in kiosk mode and restarting the browser if it exits. These resources establish a possible setup, not guaranteed YouTube playback recovery.

- Configure the Pi to start its graphical environment and browser. Follow the boot and configuration instructions for your board and operating-system version; the exact configuration depends on that setup.
- Set Chromium to open the intended YouTube URL in kiosk mode. Use the specific video or stream page you want to display. Confirm that the page can load without an unexpected sign-in or consent screen.
- Account for network readiness. A browser launched before the network is available may fail to load the page. Configure or test startup timing so the browser opens after the connection is ready.
- Run a cold-reboot test. Reboot or remove power, wait for the network, and observe whether Chromium opens. Check whether YouTube starts playback automatically, needs a click, asks for sign-in, or displays a different page. Test the actual study stream, not just the kiosk home page.
- Plan for maintenance. A kiosk can relaunch a browser if it exits, but that does not ensure YouTube itself will resume playback. Recheck after browser, operating-system, account, or network changes.
Use casting or HDMI as a fallback
Cast from a phone, tablet, or computer
YouTube supports casting and phone-as-companion controls on supported TV setups. The required account, network, and device conditions depend on the casting method; consult YouTube’s smart-TV casting guidance. Casting can make it easier to restart playback remotely, but YouTube does not document it as automatic reboot recovery.
Connect a laptop by HDMI
YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance suggests trying playback on another device and casting to a TV, or connecting a laptop to the TV with HDMI. This can help determine whether the TV app is the problem, but it does not automate playback at boot. See YouTube’s streaming and video troubleshooting page.

Know when YouTube may pause for confirmation
Even when autoplay is on, YouTube may show a “Continue watching?” prompt during uninterrupted viewing: after 30 minutes on mobile, 60 minutes on web, or 180 minutes on TV. These are prompt intervals, not reboot-recovery settings. YouTube says the prompt is intended to protect watch history and help avoid using data when someone is not watching; see Why YouTube asks, “Continue watching?”.
Troubleshoot the restart
- The device powers on, but YouTube does not: Power recovery is not the same as app launch. Check for an app-at-startup setting, or use a browser kiosk on configurable hardware.
- YouTube opens to its home screen: Automatic app launch does not necessarily restore the last page. Open the intended video manually, and check whether the device offers a supported startup URL or app setting.
- An on-demand video starts at the beginning: Confirm you are signed into the account that watched it and that watch history has not been cleared. YouTube says a selected partially watched video will usually resume, not always.
- The kiosk opens before the page can load: Check network availability at startup and repeat the reboot test after adjusting the boot sequence or delay.
- Playback stops and waits for input: Check for YouTube’s “Continue watching?” prompt. On supported devices, casting controls or a connected laptop may make it easier to restart playback.
- The TV app fails but another device works: Try YouTube troubleshooting steps on another device, casting, or HDMI from a laptop to isolate the TV-app issue.
Or let it run in the cloud
If by “study stream” you mean broadcasting uploaded videos live on your own YouTube channel, StreamNeo is a different kind of solution from restarting playback on a TV: it keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos, rather than resuming a viewer’s TV app. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud loops the uploaded content, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
