How to Schedule a 24/7 Fireplace YouTube Stream to Start Automatically

YouTube schedules the broadcast, not the device that sends it. Learn how to pair a scheduled event with an automatically started encoder or cloud stream—and plan for YouTube’s 12-hour replay limit.

YouTube Studio can schedule a fireplace livestream, but it will not start your computer or encoder at the scheduled time. For an automatic start, schedule the event in YouTube Studio, enable auto-start, and arrange for an encoder or cloud service to start sending the prerecorded video feed. YouTube’s auto-start behavior takes effect when video reaches the broadcast—not when the clock reaches the scheduled time.

What “start automatically” means on YouTube

A scheduled stream creates an upcoming broadcast and watch page. The scheduled time alone does not launch your video file, start an encoder, or make your computer turn on. YouTube’s auto-start setting can take the broadcast live after the connected encoder begins sending video. A separate automation mechanism must start that encoder or cloud source at the intended time.

For an unattended start, use either a local computer with a scheduled task and encoder, or a cloud service that can schedule prerecorded video. The exact local automation steps depend on your operating system and encoder; YouTube does not provide one universal procedure that starts every creator’s equipment.

Prepare the fireplace video and audio

Check that you have streaming rights

Use a fireplace video and soundtrack that you are entitled to broadcast. A video being available online does not establish permission to reuse it, and rights to the picture do not necessarily include rights to its music. YouTube’s encoder streaming guidance explains the connection workflow, but the channel owner must confirm the rights for their particular source.

Choose a source and decide whether to keep a local recording

Confirm that the source file plays continuously for the length you intend to stream, including its audio. A fireplace loop may look nearly still, but the player and encoder still need to run and send video data. If retaining a recording matters, plan a local archive: YouTube recommends keeping a local backup because a long live stream may not be archived.

Schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream.
  2. Create a new event or reuse settings. Set the title, description, thumbnail, privacy, date, and time, then save the event.
  3. In the event’s Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key for your encoder. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. Reset it in Studio if it is exposed.
  4. Enable Auto-start for the scheduled broadcast if you want YouTube to go live when the encoder connects and begins streaming. Verify that the encoder is configured for the exact event you scheduled.

A scheduled stream can appear as an upcoming event, where viewers may be able to set a notification. Scheduling is useful for publishing the event ahead of time; it is not a substitute for starting the source and encoder.

Make the source and encoder start at the scheduled time

Local computer and encoder

On a local setup, configure your operating system’s task scheduler to open the media source and encoder, or to run a script that starts them, at the event time. The exact menus and steps vary by OS and encoder, so test the full sequence rather than assuming that a task which opens the encoder also starts playback and transmission.

  • Make sure the computer will be powered on, awake, and connected to the internet at the scheduled time. A scheduled task cannot start a powered-off computer unless separate hardware or firmware is configured to do that.
  • Configure the encoder to use the scheduled event’s stream URL and key, and to play the intended source.
  • Check what happens after a restart or dropped connection: the source should resume and the encoder should reconnect as intended.
  • Keep the computer and network available for the whole broadcast. A local stream depends on that equipment and its internet connection remaining functional.

There is no single YouTube setting that makes every computer, player, and encoder launch unattended. Consult the documentation for your operating system and encoder for the specific task-scheduler and restart settings they support.

Cloud prerecorded-video service

YouTube’s encoder guide lists cloud-based services as an option for streaming prerecorded video 24/7. Before relying on one, verify its scheduled-start and stop controls, reconnect behavior, storage, output quality, archive workflow, account access, current price, and support directly with the provider.

Set output quality and test the complete chain

Choose an output the upload connection can sustain, then check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table for the resolution, frame rate, and codec you use. YouTube’s listed H.264 recommendations include 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. These are recommended encoder bitrates, not a guarantee that a particular internet connection will deliver a stable stream.

Before depending on an unattended start, test the scheduled event, source playback, encoder connection, and network together. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and monitor both audio and video. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend testing before an event and monitoring quality; a successful test is more informative than assuming the scheduled task will work.

Understand the 12-hour replay limitation

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube Help states: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube’s guidance on archiving live streams and DVR.

If a replay is important, consider separate broadcasts shorter than 12 hours and/or record locally. Shorter sessions mean creating and managing more events and handling transitions between them; a local recording provides a backup that does not depend on YouTube capturing the live stream.

Choose a way to keep the stream running

Option Useful when Check before relying on it
StreamNeo — first option to consider for a cloud-hosted YouTube loop: it runs from the cloud, supports uploaded video up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. You want a prerecorded stream to continue without keeping a home computer on. Confirm the scheduled start you need and review the source storage and archive workflow. StreamNeo streams to YouTube.
Local encoder and scheduled computer task You want control over a local prerecorded loop or need a local recording. Computer uptime, task-scheduler reliability, encoder restart behavior, upload stability, power backup, and whether the scheduled YouTube event is correctly selected.
Other cloud prerecorded-video service You want to avoid a dedicated always-on local computer. Scheduled start and stop, reconnect behavior, storage, output quality, archive workflow, account access, current pricing, and support.
Separate shorter scheduled broadcasts You want individual sessions to remain within YouTube’s under-12-hour archive guidance. More events to create, audience continuity, metadata changes, and the encoder’s ability to switch sessions.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your fireplace recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Your video streams as uploaded, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot; automatic recovery is available if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and UPI works for customers in India. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. To start, try StreamNeo’s free first day.

Troubleshoot an automatic start or 24/7 loop

  • The event is scheduled, but it does not go live: Studio’s schedule does not start the encoder. Check that the computer or cloud source started, that the encoder is sending video, and that Auto-start is enabled for the correct event.
  • The encoder is running but the event is waiting: Verify the stream URL and key, and confirm the encoder is bound to the scheduled broadcast. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder.
  • The event starts but the video is frozen or silent: Check that the source file is still playing, that the encoder is receiving it, and that audio is included where intended. Review the Live Control Room preview and stream health.
  • The stream drops during the night: Check the local computer’s power and sleep settings, upload stability, and the encoder’s reconnect behavior—or the cloud provider’s recovery behavior. Test recovery before leaving the stream unattended.
  • The replay is missing or cannot be rewound: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived, and DVR may be limited or unavailable beyond that duration. Use shorter sessions or make a local recording if a replay is important.
  • The stream is unstable at the chosen quality: Check that the upload connection can sustain the encoder bitrate, then lower output settings if necessary and retest. Keep the keyframe interval within YouTube’s guidance.
