Start with the scaling grades on the weapon you have equipped, then spend points to support the character’s job: Agility for earlier turns, Vitality or Defense for a bigger safety margin, and Luck when your build makes good use of critical hits.
How to choose which attributes to level
Each level gives you three points to distribute among Vitality, Might, Agility, Defense, and Luck. Those attributes affect secondary values such as health, damage, speed, defense, and critical chance. They can also improve weapon attack according to the equipped weapon’s attribute scaling, so Might is not automatically the best damage choice.
1. Check the equipped weapon’s scaling
Use the scaling grades shown in the upgrade interface as your first guide. A weapon that benefits strongly from an attribute can make investment there more valuable than following a general character recommendation. PCGamesN specifically notes that its suggestions depend on the weapon and advises checking those grades: PCGamesN’s attribute guide.
2. Decide what the character needs to do
- Agility: Prioritize it when acting earlier helps the character set up buffs, generate stains, apply debuffs, build Foretell, or heal before the enemy acts.
- Vitality: Use it to increase health and create more room for mistakes, especially while learning encounters.
- Defense: Consider it when reducing incoming damage matters more to your plan than taking an additional offensive stat.
- Luck: Invest when the character’s skills or weapon effects benefit from critical hits; it is not equally valuable to every build.
- Might: It can be a sensible damage investment when the weapon’s scaling and your build support it, but compare its scaling with the other attributes first.
3. Reassess when your weapon or role changes
A character’s best allocation can change with a new weapon, different skills, or a shift in party role. Published guides offer useful starting points, not a fixed stat prescription. A guide updated September 1, 2026 and checked against notes through patch v1.5.6 on August 31, 2026 likewise recommends weapon scaling first, then stats that support survival, tempo, or critical chance; it cautions against copying endgame spreads early: PC Gamer’s attribute recommendations.

Character-by-character starting points
Two guides make different recommendations for several characters. The comparison below preserves that disagreement rather than presenting either list as definitive. Use the entries as possible starting points, then check the equipped weapon’s scaling and the role you want the character to fill.

The recommendations are editorial guidance from the two publishers, not an official developer tier list. Their disagreement is a practical reminder to build around your actual weapon and combat plan.

When Vitality and Luck are worth investing in
Vitality can help early, but its value may shift
Gamer Guides recommends putting 20 points into Vitality early as a survivability buffer, then reducing the emphasis as Pictos provide larger health bonuses later. Treat that as a guide’s suggested approach rather than a universal breakpoint: how much health you need depends on whether you are surviving the encounters you face and what your equipment provides. Luck has diminishing returns
Gamer Guides reports 9% critical rate at 15 Luck and 15% at 30 Luck, with critical-rate gains slowing after 57 Luck. These are guide-reported figures, not a guarantee that Luck is the best investment for every character or weapon. Consider whether the relevant skills and weapon effects make critical hits valuable before committing points.

How to change your allocation
You can redistribute attribute points with a Recoat. PCGamesN says the reset is available at an Expedition Flag in the Upgrade Attributes menu and costs one Recoat: PCGamesN’s guide to attributes and Recoats.
- Go to an Expedition Flag.
- Open the Upgrade Attributes menu.
- Use a Recoat to reset the allocation, then redistribute your points to fit your current weapon and build.
Because recoats may be limited, check your weapon and intended role before spending one. A change in weapon or combat plan is a good reason to review an allocation rather than keep investing automatically.

A quick decision checklist
- Which attributes have the strongest scaling grades on the equipped weapon?
- Does this character need to act early to set up buffs, stains, Foretell, debuffs, or healing?
- Are you losing fights because the character needs more health or damage reduction?
- Do the character’s skills or weapon effects reward critical hits?
- Are you building for the current stage of the game, rather than copying a late-game point spread?
