In Streamlabs Desktop, add an Alert Box source; in OBS Studio, add the provider’s widget URL as a Browser Source. An on-screen alert is separate from a YouTube notification sent to viewers.
What an alert box does
An alert box is an overlay widget from an alert provider. It displays supported events—such as a new subscriber, member, or contribution—in the video scene created by your streaming software. The provider manages the widget’s settings; your streaming software displays it in the stream.
YouTube’s own notifications are different: they are messages YouTube may send to viewers about a live broadcast. Adding an alert box to your scene does not control those viewer notifications.
Choose how to add the widget
| Streaming setup | How to add the alert | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Streamlabs Desktop | Add the native Alert Box source from Sources. | Configure the alert in Streamlabs and test it in the scene you plan to stream. |
| OBS Studio without the Streamlabs plugin | Copy the provider’s widget URL and add it as a Browser Source. | This URL-based method supports third-party alert overlays; OBS describes embedding them with a Browser Source. |
| OBS Studio with the Streamlabs plugin | Use the Streamlabs widget integration available through the OBS menu or plugin. | This is an alternative integration route, not a requirement for every OBS user. |
| Other streaming software | Look for a browser or web source, then follow the alert provider’s instructions. | Exact labels and steps vary by software and provider. |
Set up alerts step by step
- Connect your YouTube channel to an alert provider. In the provider’s dashboard, open its platform or account-linking controls and connect the channel. For Streamlabs, its current general alerts guide was last updated July 6, 2026; interface labels may change.
- Choose the events and customize their appearance. Select the YouTube event types you want to show. Set the available image or animation, sound, text, duration, and variations. Event options and controls can differ by platform, so use the YouTube-specific settings. Save your changes.
- Add the alert to your active scene. In Streamlabs Desktop, add an Alert Box source. In OBS without the plugin, copy the widget URL from the provider’s dashboard, add a Browser Source, and paste the URL into its URL field. Position and size the source so it does not cover gameplay, faces, captions, or other information viewers need.
- Test the scene before you go live. Trigger a test alert from the provider and check that it appears in the intended scene. Listen for the sound as well as checking the visual. A test confirms how the widget renders; it does not prove YouTube will expose or promptly deliver every real subscriber event.
Why an alert may not appear
- The test does not render: Check that you copied the correct widget URL, that the source is in the active scene and visible, and that the provider’s settings were saved. Trigger the test again after checking the source.
- The source is present but hidden: Confirm the source is enabled and not covered by another scene element. Adjust its position and size, then test again.
- A real subscriber does not trigger an alert: YouTube subscriptions are private by default. An account with private subscriptions does not appear in a channel’s Subscribers List; public subscriptions can be visible. Do not assume a missing alert means the overlay itself is broken.
- A subscriber alert arrives late: Streamlabs’ older troubleshooting page describes YouTube subscriber-alert delays of up to four hours. That is Streamlabs’ guidance, not a guaranteed delay for every provider or account. Check your provider’s current guidance and distinguish a delayed platform event from a widget that fails its test.
- The alert works in a test but not as expected during a live broadcast: Separate the provider widget from YouTube’s event delivery. Check the provider’s current event settings, then review whether the relevant event is available to the provider; a successful test only checks the widget display path.
Alert-box pop-ups are not YouTube live notifications
An alert box is an overlay shown to people watching the stream video. YouTube live notifications are delivered by YouTube to eligible viewers, subject to their channel, account, and device notification settings. For encoder-based streams, YouTube says the broadcast must be public and YouTube must detect that it is live before it sends notifications to eligible subscribers. An overlay cannot make YouTube send those notifications.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube notification delivery also depends on viewers having channel notifications and YouTube notifications enabled. Treat the two systems independently: configure and test the widget in your scene, and use YouTube’s live and notification settings for viewer-facing alerts.
Or let it run in the cloud
Alert boxes are for live scenes rendered by streaming software. If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It does not replace a camera-based live setup or manage the alert widget in OBS.

Will every new YouTube subscriber trigger an alert?
No. YouTube subscriptions are private by default, and private subscriptions do not appear in a channel’s Subscribers List. Provider alerts also depend on the event being exposed to that provider.
