Yes, a Raspberry Pi 4 can be a plausible encoder for a modest YouTube Live stream over JioFiber, but its specifications do not show that it can reliably run unattended around the clock. The Pi 4 lists H.264 encoding up to 1080p30; a successful continuous channel also depends on the capture and encoding setup, stable upload, power, temperature, and recovery after interruptions. A 24/7 channel is not guaranteed by the board or by a JioFiber connection.
What the Raspberry Pi 4 can—and cannot—establish
Raspberry Pi’s official Raspberry Pi 4 Model B specifications list a Broadcom BCM2711 quad-core Cortex-A72 processor, Gigabit Ethernet, and H.264 encoding up to 1080p30. The board can decode H.264 at 1080p60 and H.265 at 4Kp60, but those decode figures should not be confused with its stated H.264 encode capability.
That specification does not guarantee that every camera, capture device, encoder application, filter, or overlay will use hardware encoding successfully. Nor is it a certification for continuous operation. For a fixed camera feed or a simple loop, use a straightforward pipeline with H.264 hardware encoding and few effects; verify that your chosen software can capture the source and encode it at the intended settings on the Pi. This is a prudent setup approach, not a reported 24/7 test result.
Power and operating conditions
Raspberry Pi specifies a minimum 5V/3A USB-C input and an ambient operating-temperature range of 0–50°C. Use a suitable power supply, keep the board within its specified ambient range, and consider how the enclosure and workload affect its actual operating conditions. These specifications do not guarantee uninterrupted operation.

Recommended YouTube encoder settings
YouTube’s live encoder settings list H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. For H.264, YouTube recommends 3 Mbps for 720p30 and 5 Mbps for 1080p30. Those are platform ingest recommendations, not proof that your connection can sustain the selected rate continuously.
| Starting point | YouTube H.264 recommendation | Other settings |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | CBR; two-second keyframe interval recommended, maximum four seconds |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | CBR; two-second keyframe interval recommended, maximum four seconds |
A cautious initial setup is 720p30 H.264, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC audio. Set the video bitrate below the stable upload capacity you actually measure, leaving headroom for audio and fluctuations; do not treat a momentary speed-test result as a continuous guarantee. YouTube advises testing with representative audio and motion and monitoring stream health.

Use a secure ingest connection
YouTube recommends RTMPS. Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide says the connection must use a valid YouTube RTMPS ingestion endpoint and port 443. In your encoder, use the endpoint and stream key provided by YouTube rather than guessing either value. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
What JioFiber changes
Jio describes JioFiber plans as offering symmetric upload and download speeds and unlimited data, but the available speed depends on the customer’s plan. Check your active plan on JioFiber’s plans page and measure upload stability under the conditions in which you will stream. A plan’s advertised speed is not a guarantee of the throughput available to your encoder at every moment.

The Pi 4 has Gigabit Ethernet, so a wired connection to the router is a sensible choice for a fixed encoder when practical. Ethernet avoids relying on a Wi-Fi link between the Pi and router, but it cannot prevent an ISP outage, a router or ONT failure, a power cut, or a software fault.
Jio’s postpaid FAQ advertises “Highest quality service with 99.9% uptime.” That is Jio’s service claim, not an independently measured result for your line or a guarantee that a particular YouTube broadcast will stay connected. Local wiring, congestion, maintenance, home power, network equipment, and the Pi can all affect availability.

A practical setup and reliability checklist
- Confirm the source and encoding path. Check that your chosen software supports the camera or media source and can use H.264 hardware encoding on the Pi 4. Keep the pipeline simple and verify the intended resolution and frame rate before leaving it unattended.
- Connect by Ethernet where possible. Connect the Pi to the router and use a suitable power supply. Make sure the board’s ambient environment stays within Raspberry Pi’s specified 0–50°C range.
- Measure the real uplink. Test upload performance at the location and time you expect to stream, then repeat under representative household network use. Choose a bitrate with headroom below the stable result rather than matching the peak reading.
- Configure YouTube ingest. Use H.264 with CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and the bitrate appropriate to your resolution. Configure the encoder with the valid RTMPS endpoint and private stream key supplied by YouTube.
- Run a representative test. Include the expected audio and motion, check YouTube stream health, and confirm the picture, sound, and bitrate remain stable. A short successful test does not establish 24/7 reliability.
- Plan for interruption. Configure reconnect or restart behavior in your encoder, and decide how you will monitor the stream and restore it after a power, network, or software failure. If availability matters, consider backup power for the Pi and network equipment.
- Check YouTube’s current long-stream handling. A feed that can run for a long time is not necessarily one YouTube event that remains live and is archived indefinitely. The official settings and RTMPS sources cited here do not establish current handling for a broadcast exceeding 12 hours. Verify YouTube’s current policy before relying on one event for a daily 24-hour schedule.
Common problems and what to check
- Stream health reports connection trouble or the feed drops: reduce bitrate, check stable upload and competing network use, inspect Ethernet and router or ONT connections, and confirm the encoder’s reconnect behavior.
- The Pi struggles to encode smoothly: confirm hardware encoding is actually enabled, reduce resolution or frame rate, and simplify filters and overlays. The published 1080p30 capability does not mean every software pipeline can sustain it.
- YouTube does not accept the feed: recheck the endpoint and stream key copied from YouTube, the RTMPS configuration, and port 443 connectivity. Regenerate or replace a compromised stream key.
- The stream stops after a power or network interruption: check the power supply, router and ONT, and encoder restart or reconnect settings. Recovery is a separate requirement from encoding performance; the Pi’s specification does not promise it.
- A single event does not cover the planned full day: verify YouTube’s current long-stream and archive behavior, then plan scheduled or restarted events if needed rather than assuming an uninterrupted event will persist.
