If a YouTube playlist edit seems to vanish, first confirm it with the right control for the app you’re using—Done on desktop, the checkmark in the YouTube app on iPhone or iPad, or Save in YouTube Studio on Android. Then reopen the playlist and check the exact field or order you changed. If it still reverts, use the platform-specific checks below to narrow down what happened.
Confirm the edit in the interface you used
The confirmation action differs by platform. Make one small edit at a time while troubleshooting so you can tell which change did—or did not—stick.
Desktop YouTube
- Open the playlist from the YouTube Guide and choose Edit beside the relevant section.
- For a title or description, change the field and click Done. In YouTube’s described flow for adding a description, clicking outside the edit box saves it.
- To change the order, drag a video or Short up or down on the playlist page.
If the controls do not match these steps, YouTube says the site may be an older version; update to the current YouTube version. YouTube’s playlist editing instructions also note that editing may not be available for supervised accounts.
YouTube app on iPhone or iPad
- Open Library, select the playlist, then tap Edit.
- Change the title or description, then tap the checkmark in the upper corner to confirm.
- To reorder items, press and hold the two-line handle beside a video or Short, then drag it.

YouTube Studio app on Android
- Open YouTube Studio, go to Content, select the Playlists tab, open the playlist’s options, and tap Edit.
- Change the title, description, privacy, or order, then tap Save.
- To change a video’s playlist membership, edit the video, adjust its playlist checkbox, tap Done, then tap Save.
YouTube also flags a supervised-account limitation in its playlist editing guidance.
Reopen the playlist and check the specific change
After confirming an edit, navigate away and open the playlist again; on desktop, you can refresh the page. Check the field or item order you changed rather than relying only on what appeared in the editor. This is a practical verification step, not a special YouTube-prescribed repair procedure.

Be precise about what appears to have failed: a title or description, privacy, adding or removing a video, or the order. A drag in the watch-page panel may only change the temporary playback order; make a permanent ordering change from the playlist page, then reopen it to check.
Check privacy and ordering limits
Playlist visibility
To change visibility in YouTube Studio, open Content > Playlists > Details, choose the visibility, and select Save. In the YouTube app, open the playlist’s edit controls, choose a privacy value, and save. You can set a playlist to public, private, or unlisted:

- Private: it is not shareable by URL.
Visibility controls who can access or share the playlist; they do not explain by themselves why an edit might revert. Details are in YouTube’s playlist privacy guidance.
Playlists made up only of Shorts
YouTube does not allow manual reordering of a playlist that contains only Shorts. If ordering is the only change you cannot make, this documented limitation—not a failed save—is the relevant explanation. See YouTube’s playlist editing guidance.

If the edit still reverts: isolate the problem
YouTube’s playlist editing pages describe how to make changes, but do not provide a playlist-specific diagnosis for edits that revert after confirmation. The checks below are practical troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes or documented diagnoses.
- Repeat one small change. Use the correct confirmation control for your platform, and avoid changing several fields at once while testing.
- Check eligibility and software versions. Confirm you are signed in to the account that owns or can edit the playlist. Check whether the account is supervised, and update the YouTube app or browser if needed. YouTube says supervised accounts may not have editing features; it also warns that an older site version may not follow current desktop steps and that older browsers can have problems with newer features. These are checks, not proof of the cause. See playlist editing help and YouTube’s browser requirements guidance.
- Try another supported interface. Make one small edit in a current YouTube app or browser, confirm it, and reopen the playlist. This can help determine whether the issue appears limited to one interface, but YouTube does not promise this test will fix persistence.
- Send feedback if it continues. Include your device and operating system, app or browser version, playlist type, exact edit, the confirmation action you used, and what you saw after reopening. This gives YouTube useful details; the playlist editing pages do not promise a particular resolution path.
If you edit playlists through the YouTube Data API
This case applies to developers and integrations, not ordinary app or desktop editing. The YouTube Data API playlists.update documentation says the request requires authorization and warns that omitting snippet.description deletes the existing description. Check the request payload if an API-based update changes or removes playlist metadata unexpectedly.
