On Windows, change what the laptop does when its lid closes: open Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options > Choose what closing the lid does, then choose an action other than Sleep for the power state you will use. Set On battery and Plugged in separately. On a Mac, the documented closed-lid setup is for a laptop connected to an external display; Apple specifies connecting power and using an external keyboard and mouse. The right fix depends on your computer and how you are watching the yoga stream.
Windows: change the lid-close action
Windows laptops can be configured to sleep when the lid closes, which stops playback. Microsoft’s Control Panel route applies to Windows 10 and Windows 11:
- Open Control Panel.
- Choose System and Security > Power Options.
- Select Choose what closing the lid does.
- Set the action for On battery and Plugged in separately. To keep the laptop awake, choose an action that does not put it to sleep.
- Select Save changes.
Choose the setting for the power state you will actually use. For example, changing only Plugged in will not help if you close the lid while running on battery. The available options can vary by PC and manufacturer. See Microsoft’s instructions for shutdown, sleep, and hibernate settings.
Windows 11 sleep timers are separate
Windows 11 also has idle display and sleep timing controls at Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts. These govern what happens after inactivity; they are not the same as the lid-close action. If playback stops when you close the lid, check the lid setting as well as the timeout settings. Microsoft documents the Windows 11 path in its Power settings guide.

Mac: account for the closed-display setup
Apple’s guidance for using a Mac laptop with its lid closed concerns an external-display setup. It specifies connecting the Mac to power and using an external keyboard and mouse. This is not a universal guarantee for every Mac model or for audio-only playback; check Apple’s closed-lid external-display guidance for the relevant setup.
Sleep prevention is not necessarily a lid override
Apple’s Mac battery guide documents the option Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off. Sleep and wake behavior can also depend on settings and connected devices, so do not assume this option alone will keep every Mac awake with its lid closed. See Apple’s support article, If your Mac sleeps or wakes unexpectedly.

Check the result safely
- Before relying on the setup for a yoga session, start the stream and close the lid briefly while monitoring playback from another device if possible.
- If the laptop still sleeps, confirm you changed the lid action for the power state in use, and distinguish that setting from idle sleep timers.
- If the option is missing or behaves differently, consult the laptop manufacturer’s documentation for your exact model and operating-system version. Microsoft notes that available options depend on the PC and manufacturer.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you mean a YouTube channel’s pre-recorded yoga video playing as a continuous live stream, rather than watching a stream on your laptop, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The stream runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it plays the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only. Learn about StreamNeo or start the free day.
