To run a continuous YouTube Live stream of ASMR fabric sounds, capture original fabric audio with a microphone, send it through an encoder such as OBS Studio, and monitor the broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Your channel must be verified and free of live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days. For a feed that should keep running without leaving a computer on at home, a cloud service such as StreamNeo can loop uploaded recordings instead.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that meets YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- A microphone connected to a computer running a streaming encoder. YouTube’s encoder overview includes microphones and preamps among the hardware used with encoder streams: YouTube encoder streaming overview.
- An encoder such as OBS Studio, plus an internet connection and computer capable of sustaining the stream for the planned duration. OBS provides official streaming and audio help at its help portal.
- Original fabric sounds and visuals, or other material you have the rights to use in a live stream.
No particular microphone type or model is established as best for fabric ASMR. Choose a microphone you can position consistently, then listen to a private or unlisted test to check the sound and levels before going public.
Set up the continuous stream yourself
1. Prepare the audio and visual
Choose the fabric sounds you want viewers to hear and arrange a simple, stable visual scene. Keep the microphone position and sound source consistent, and check for unwanted room noise, handling noise, clipping, or long silent gaps. A static visual can work if the audio is the focus; if the image changes as you handle the fabric, make sure the camera view remains deliberate and unobstructed.
2. Configure OBS Studio or another encoder
Add the microphone as an audio input in the encoder, build the scene you want viewers to see, and set the audio level so the sound is clear without clipping. Choose resolution, bitrate, codec, and network settings that your computer and connection can sustain. There is no universal bitrate or resolution established for this particular setup, so do not assume that a setting suitable for another connection or computer will be reliable for yours. 3. Check your channel and create the live broadcast
YouTube requires a verified channel and says it must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Review YouTube’s current eligibility and setup instructions at Get started with live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder-based broadcast.
4. Add the stream key and preview
- In the Live Control Room, open the broadcast’s stream settings and copy its stream key.
- Paste the key into the encoder’s stream destination settings. Treat it like a password: do not publish it or share it with viewers.
- Start the encoder feed, then wait for YouTube to receive it and check the preview and stream status in the Live Control Room.
- Use a private or unlisted test first if you need to adjust the sound, image, or connection before making the broadcast public.
- When the preview is ready, start the public broadcast from the Live Control Room if it is not already scheduled to begin automatically.
5. Keep the feed running and watch its status
A continuous stream depends on the encoder continuing to send video and audio. Keep the computer, microphone connection, encoder, and internet connection available for the full session, and check the Live Control Room for status changes or warnings. YouTube’s API documentation describes a 24/7 broadcast scenario in which video continues while broadcasts are managed; using API automation is optional, not a requirement for a creator’s stream. Plan for long broadcasts
Decide whether viewers need to rewind while the stream is live and whether you need an archive after it ends. YouTube Help’s surfaced guidance says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours; because the current canonical help page could not be confirmed, treat that threshold as guidance to verify in the Live Control Room rather than a guaranteed cutoff. Long-running broadcasts also make continuous monitoring and a stable encoder connection important.
Protect the stream from copyright interruptions
YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including other live broadcasts. A detected match can result in a placeholder replacing the broadcast, interruption, or termination. Original fabric recordings and visuals are the clearest way to reduce this risk; do not assume that sounds or images found online are free to use just because they are easy to download.

If you use licensed third-party material, check the rights and live-stream permissions carefully. YouTube notes that a rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; having a license by itself may not prevent an automated interruption. Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: check that the encoder is using the stream key for the correct broadcast, the destination is configured correctly, and the encoder is actually streaming. Recheck the Live Control Room status.
- The sound is missing or too quiet: confirm the microphone is selected as the encoder’s input, connected, and not muted; then check its input level and the encoder’s audio meters.
- The audio distorts or clips: lower the input or encoder level and listen to another test before going public.
- The stream drops during a long session: check the computer, encoder, microphone connection, and internet connection, then review YouTube’s status and warnings before restarting the broadcast.
- The broadcast is interrupted after a copyright match: remove the matched material or resolve the rights and allowlisting issue with the rights owner. For a fabric-sounds channel, using your own recordings and visuals avoids depending on third-party assets.
- Viewers cannot rewind or find an archive: check the broadcast’s DVR and archive behavior in the Live Control Room, especially for very long sessions.
