If OBS crashes, YouTube stops receiving its live encoder feed; OBS cannot keep sending audio and video while the app is closed. Restart OBS, reconnect it to the same YouTube event and stream key, then verify the feed in Live Control Room and on the viewer page. OBS’s automatic reconnect can help after a network interruption, but it does not relaunch OBS after an application crash.
What stops when OBS crashes—and what can recover
For an encoder-based broadcast, OBS sends video and audio to YouTube using a server address and stream key. When OBS exits unexpectedly, that feed ends. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain how the encoder connects.
OBS’s automatic reconnect setting is intended to reconnect a stream after a connection interruption; it is not an application watchdog. If the OBS process crashes, a separate, tested restart mechanism would be needed to reopen OBS. OBS documents reconnect in its overview of OBS Studio.
A local recording can preserve a copy of what was recorded, but it cannot keep the YouTube broadcast live while OBS is down. YouTube recommends checking that a local archive file is being created and increasing in size during a broadcast in its live-streaming tips.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Prepare the YouTube event and OBS playlist
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Keep its settings available. YouTube can copy settings when you reuse a stream, including the stream key and auto-start/auto-stop selections. Check the event’s current options in YouTube’s live stream settings guide.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, select YouTube as the service if available, or enter YouTube’s server URL and the event’s stream key. YouTube documents both connection approaches in its encoder setup guide. Treat the key as a password: YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not share it or include it in screenshots.
- Add the playlist. Install VLC, then in OBS add a VLC Video Source and select the Hindi podcast files in the intended order. Enable Loop Playlist and set shuffle according to whether you want a fixed sequence or varied playback. VLC must be installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. For one local audio/video file rather than a playlist, use a Media Source and enable its Loop option. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation.
- Check the scene and sound. Make sure the scene includes the intended media source and that its audio is reaching the stream. OBS scenes can contain media and audio sources; see OBS’s Sources guide.
- Set up reconnect and, if needed, a restart mechanism. In OBS, open Settings > Advanced and configure automatic reconnect for connection failures. That setting does not restart a crashed process. OBS lists
--startstreamingamong its launch parameters, but that is not a complete watchdog setup or a guarantee of uninterrupted recovery. Any external automation must be configured and tested on the specific computer, profile and YouTube event before you rely on it. - Choose a recording path if you need a local archive. Enable local recording in OBS and verify the destination has room. During a test, confirm the file exists and is growing. An optional external SSD can provide more local storage, but a drive does not prevent an OBS crash or maintain the live feed.
Restart the broadcast after OBS crashes
- Reopen OBS. If a restart tool or script is involved, verify that it opened the right profile and scene collection and did not launch an unintended duplicate instance.
- Check that OBS is connected to the intended YouTube event, server and stream key. If you reset the key in YouTube, update the corresponding encoder configuration; YouTube’s settings guide and troubleshooting guidance cover stream settings and key changes.
- Start streaming from OBS, or use the restart workflow you tested. In Live Control Room, wait for the encoder preview and inspect the event’s status. Then open the actual public, unlisted or private watch page as appropriate and confirm that both audio and video play.
- If OBS shows that it is streaming but viewers cannot watch, check the encoder status and your outbound internet connection. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance distinguishes encoder health from internet connectivity.
- Check the local recording, if enabled. The recovered broadcast may contain a gap while OBS was down; restarting cannot guarantee an interruption-free viewing experience.
Test reliability before relying on a long broadcast
Before broadcasting to viewers, run a private or unlisted test event. YouTube recommends previewing the encoder feed, checking stream health, verifying that a local archive is being written and testing backup failover where you use it. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
Check that the playlist order, looping, audio levels, event visibility and viewer playback are all correct. If you use a backup encoder or a process restart tool, deliberately test the recovery path in a non-public test rather than assuming it will work during a real broadcast. YouTube’s network guidance recommends 20% upload headroom; total streaming bitrate must remain within available upload bandwidth. See YouTube’s network and encoder guidance.

Confirm you can broadcast the podcast content
Being able to loop files in OBS does not grant permission to rebroadcast them. Before streaming, confirm that you have the necessary rights for every podcast episode, music track, image and other material in the playlist, including any music or artwork embedded in an episode. The technical setup cannot establish licensing rights for your specific files.
YouTube’s live-streaming start guidance says channels must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and meet the minimum age requirement of 16. Requirements and interface details can change, so check the current YouTube live-streaming eligibility guidance and Live Control Room before scheduling.

Choose recovery for the failure you actually have
| Approach | What it addresses | What it does not do | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS automatic reconnect | A stream connection interruption while OBS is still running | Relaunch OBS after its process crashes | Reconnect behavior and stream health in a test event |
| Separate OBS restart automation | Reopening OBS after an application failure, if configured for that purpose | Guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast or correct recovery without testing | Correct profile, scene collection, event and stream key; no duplicate instance |
| Local recording | Keeping a local archive when recording is enabled and the file is saved successfully | Keep YouTube live while OBS is down | Recording path, available storage and file growth during a test |
| Backup encoder or failover | A separately configured backup path, when supported and tested for the event | Automatically solve every OBS crash or event-configuration problem | Failover behavior in a test; YouTube recommends testing backup failover |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a recurring YouTube stream of uploaded Hindi podcast episodes, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without leaving a computer or home connection on. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube.
