Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo stream a Kannada podcast archive continuously on YouTube with FFmpeg, prepare a media file you have permission to rebroadcast, loop it with FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1, read it in real time with -re, and send it to YouTube Live over RTMPS using the server URL and private stream key shown in YouTube Studio. Test the stream and monitor its health; a looping command is not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation.
Before you start
- Check rights: Confirm you may rebroadcast the podcast audio, music, artwork, and every other element in the archive. The technical setup cannot establish whether you have those rights.
- Prepare a compatible source: The example below assumes one local video file containing both picture and audio. The archive’s format and codecs are unspecified, so check your file and test it rather than assuming it will work unchanged.
- Keep the host available: A computer running FFmpeg must stay powered on, retain access to the file, and have a working network connection for the stream to continue.
- Enable YouTube Live: First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Set up YouTube Live and protect the stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or select a stream using the encoder workflow.
- Copy the current ingest server URL and stream key provided for that stream.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your broadcast.
- Use the exact current URL and key from YouTube Studio in the FFmpeg command. Do not post them publicly or leave a real key in shared scripts or screenshots.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP. Its current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for supported settings and bitrate guidance.
Loop one podcast video file with FFmpeg
For a single local video file with audio, this command is a practical starting pattern. Replace the filename and both URL placeholders; do not paste a real stream key into an article, public post, or shared example.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "podcast-archive.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 2500k -maxrate 2500k -bufsize 5000k
-g 60 -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/YOUR_PRIVATE_STREAM_KEY"
-rereads the input at its native frame rate instead of sending the file as fast as the machine can process it.-stream_loop -1tells FFmpeg to loop the input indefinitely. Both are input options, so they appear before-iand the file they apply to.-c:v libx264and-c:a aacencode video and audio as H.264 and AAC. Re-encoding can be useful when the source codecs or parameters do not match the settings you intend to send.-b:v,-maxrate, and-bufsizeare example video-rate controls;-b:asets an example audio bitrate. These values are starting points, not a universal YouTube preset.-g 60sets a GOP/keyframe interval in frames. Whether that yields the recommended interval depends on the video frame rate. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds; choose the GOP to match your actual frame rate.-f flvselects the output container used by the RTMP/RTMPS workflow.
Use YouTube’s current bitrate table to select resolution and bitrate for the stream you plan to send, then confirm your sustained upload capacity can support it. The command’s example bitrate and keyframe setting are not appropriate for every resolution or frame rate.

If the archive is audio-only
An audio-only file needs a visual stream or an audio-capable ingest arrangement. One straightforward editorial option is to prepare a still image or video as part of the media file, then test that finished file with the command before publishing. This workflow does not establish a particular visualizer recipe.
If the archive contains multiple episodes
The loop option above repeats one input file. Building a multi-file episode sequence, choosing transitions, or making the join seamless requires a separately tested concat or playlist design; do not assume the single-file command will combine files automatically.

Choose settings, then test the actual stream
Use YouTube’s encoder recommendations as the reference for resolution, bitrate, codecs, and keyframe interval. In particular, its current guidance recommends constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. Confirm the chosen settings against the actual frame rate and your available upload capacity rather than copying the example values blindly. Review YouTube’s current encoder settings before starting.
- Start FFmpeg and check that it opens the input and begins transmitting without errors.
- Review the live preview and stream status in YouTube’s Live Control Room before directing viewers to the broadcast.
- Test with audio and movement similar to the planned stream. A short test can expose format, sound, image, or connection problems before a long run.
- During the broadcast, watch YouTube’s stream health and messages and keep an eye on FFmpeg’s output.
The command only loops the input; it does not guarantee recovery from every process, power, file-access, or network failure. Test the complete setup on the host and connection you intend to use.

Plan around YouTube’s automatic archive limit
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions say: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” If you need an automatically archived replay, plan to end and restart the broadcast well before it reaches 12 hours. The cited guidance does not establish that a stream lasting longer than 12 hours will be archived. See YouTube’s setup instructions.
When HLS is—and is not—needed
For an ordinary prerecorded podcast stream, use RTMPS unless you have a specific reason to use another supported ingest mode. YouTube documents HLS as a separate route, principally for HDR or codecs not supported over RTMP; it has higher latency and additional segment and playlist requirements. HLS segments must be 1–4 seconds, and a rolling playlist must have no more than five outstanding segments. Those requirements apply to HLS ingestion, not the RTMPS command above. See YouTube’s HLS setup instructions.

Keep FFmpeg running
On a local computer, the process depends on the machine staying on and awake, the source file remaining accessible, and the network remaining connected. If you need the stream to continue while your personal computer is off, an always-on server is an optional deployment route, not a requirement of FFmpeg. It adds server access, file-transfer, network-capacity, monitoring, and restart considerations; check the provider’s bandwidth and usage terms before relying on one. No particular provider or server configuration is established here.
Troubleshooting common failures
- YouTube does not show the stream: Confirm live streaming is enabled, the activation period has passed if this is your first stream, and the server URL and stream key match the current stream in YouTube Studio.
- FFmpeg cannot open the file: Check the filename, path, permissions, and whether the host can still access the source file.
- The stream connects but picture or sound is wrong: Test the source file locally, check its audio and video tracks, and compare the output codecs and parameters with YouTube’s current encoder guidance.
- YouTube reports poor stream health: Check the encoder messages, chosen bitrate and resolution, keyframe interval, and sustained upload capacity. Test at a lower supported setting if the connection cannot sustain the intended bitrate.
- The stream stops unexpectedly: Check FFmpeg’s output, host power and sleep settings, file availability, and network stability. The loop option repeats media but does not itself restart a failed FFmpeg process or restore a failed connection.
- The replay is missing: Check whether the stream stayed under YouTube’s stated 12-hour automatic-archive threshold; the setup guidance does not promise automatic archiving for longer streams.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a Kannada podcast archive to keep playing on YouTube without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo is the cloud option: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera.
