To add a QR code to a looping YouTube Live product demo, create and test a QR code for the page you want viewers to visit, place its image as an overlay in your encoder, connect the encoder to YouTube with your stream URL and key, then check the live preview for visibility and scanability before starting.
1. Prepare and test the QR code
- Choose the destination. Use the exact product page or other destination you want viewers to open. Check that the page works on a phone and that the address is correct.
- Generate or export the QR code as an image. Test it with a phone camera before adding it to the video. Confirm that it opens the intended page rather than merely checking that the image looks like a QR code.
2. Add the QR image to the encoder layout
YouTube supports encoder-based streams for advanced production, including overlays and graphics. Add the QR image as a graphic or image overlay in the scene or layout used for the product demo. The exact controls vary by encoder, so use the selected software’s current documentation for its specific steps; YouTube’s encoder guide notes that setup depends on the software: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. OBS users can consult the OBS Help Portal.
- Position the code where it does not cover the product, important interface details, captions, or controls.
- Use enough size and contrast for a viewer to scan it from a typical viewing distance. Check on a phone pointed at the actual preview, not just on the editing canvas.
- Keep the code on screen long enough to be scanned. For a looping demo, consider whether the code remains visible throughout or appears during the relevant product segment.
3. Connect the encoder to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and open the Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key provided by YouTube into the corresponding connection fields in your encoder. Treat the key as private; do not show it in the demo or share it publicly.
- Start sending the encoder preview to YouTube and confirm that the intended scene, including the QR overlay, appears correctly.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover the connection flow. For format and live-stream setup context, see Get started with live streaming.
4. Test the complete layout before the demo
Test before the event with audio and video movement similar to what you plan to stream, then monitor stream health while live. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends testing and watching stream health. For the QR code, add a practical check of your own: view the stream on the kinds of screens your audience will use and scan the code from a phone. Verify that it is readable at the final size, does not disappear during playback, and still opens the correct destination.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If you use horizontal and vertical layouts
Check each format separately. A code that fits in a horizontal frame may be cropped, obscured, or too small in a vertical version. YouTube documents both horizontal and vertical live formats in its live-streaming overview.
5. Keep a looping demo running
A loop can be sent through an encoder on a computer, but that setup depends on the encoder and the computer remaining available. For a cloud option that plays uploaded videos to YouTube, StreamNeo lets you upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The uploaded demo can include the QR code in the video itself; StreamNeo does not add a separate overlay and does not stream from a camera.
