Use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source to play Hindi and English files in a deliberate sequence, then send the scene to YouTube Live with an encoder stream key. For predictable rotation, arrange the playlist in the order you want and leave Shuffle Playlist off; enable Loop Playlist if it should repeat.
Before you set up the stream
Prepare the audio or video files in a local folder and use only recordings, visuals, and artwork you have the necessary rights to stream. Decide whether you want a fixed sequence—such as a Hindi block followed by an English block—or alternating tracks. The playlist order controls playback; OBS does not identify or sort tracks by language.
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. The VLC Video source may not appear in OBS until VLC is installed; restart OBS after installation if needed.
- Put the files in the intended order so they are easy to add to the playlist.
- Choose whether the sequence should play once or repeat. A live stream that continues after the playlist ends needs looping or another planned source.
OBS’s VLC source supports multiple playlist items and separate shuffle and loop controls. Its media sources support common audio formats such as MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV, and video formats such as MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM. See the OBS media sources guide.
Build the Hindi-English playlist in OBS
- Create a scene: In OBS, create or select the scene you will use for the YouTube stream.
- Add the playlist source: In the Sources panel, select + and choose VLC Video. If it is missing, install VLC, restart OBS, and check again.
- Add the files in order: In the source properties, add the Hindi and English audio or video files in the sequence you want. For example, add all Hindi tracks first and then English tracks, or alternate Hindi and English entries one by one.
- Choose predictable playback: Leave Shuffle Playlist off when language order matters. Turn it on only if you deliberately want a random order.
- Set the repeat behavior: Turn on Loop Playlist to restart the whole sequence after the last item. Leave it off for a single pass.
- Make the scene presentable: For video files, check that the picture fits the scene. For audio-only files, add a static image or another visual you intend viewers to see.
- Check the audio: Play representative files and watch the OBS audio meter. Confirm that the level is audible and that transitions between files behave as expected.
Create or schedule the YouTube Live stream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- Create a stream to start soon or schedule it. Scheduling can help you promote the stream in advance and let viewers request reminders.
- Open the stream’s encoder details and copy the YouTube server URL and stream key. YouTube explains the setup in its encoder setup guide and live stream settings guide.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter or connect the stream details as prompted. If entering them manually, use the server URL and stream key from the correct YouTube stream.
- Treat the stream key like a password. It tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it; do not share it publicly.
Test and go live
- Start the OBS stream early enough to test before the intended broadcast. Check YouTube’s preview before making the stream public or beginning the planned event.
- Listen to a representative Hindi track and a representative English track. Verify levels, transitions, playlist order, and the visual presentation.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health messages and confirm your upload connection can reliably sustain the selected encoder quality. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and live streaming tips cover quality and monitoring.
- Once the preview and sound are right, go live in YouTube Studio if the stream is waiting for that action. Keep monitoring the stream while it runs.
Copyright, permissions, and stream archives
Having a file on your computer does not mean you have permission to broadcast it. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including music. If it detects a match, YouTube may replace the live video with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the content; continuing can interrupt or terminate the stream. Even if you have a licence, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Archived live streams can also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is YouTube’s stated behavior, not a substitute for keeping your own master recording if you need one. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
Troubleshoot common playlist problems
- VLC Video is missing in OBS: Install VLC and restart OBS, then look for the source again.
- Tracks play in an unexpected order: Reopen the source properties and verify the item order. Turn off Shuffle Playlist for a fixed Hindi-English sequence.
- The playlist stops after the last file: Enable Loop Playlist if the sequence should repeat.
- Viewers hear audio but see no intended picture: Add a visual to the scene for audio-only files, or check the video source and scene layout for video files.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: Confirm that OBS has the server URL and stream key for the intended YouTube stream, and check YouTube Studio’s preview and stream-health messages.
- Audio is too quiet, distorted, or inconsistent: Check the OBS audio meter and test representative files before going live; adjust the source or scene audio as needed.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright match: Stop using the matched material unless you have the rights and any required Content ID allowlisting. A licence does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption by itself.
