What changes when you choose OBS or cloud hosting?
OBS is streaming software on your computer: it encodes the video and sends it directly to YouTube. That means your computer and its internet connection have to keep working for the broadcast to continue. Whether a computer can run OBS is not the same as whether it can encode the chosen resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity; OBS says those CPU requirements vary by setup. OBS system requirements
With cloud hosting, the service sends the stream from its own system after you upload the media and configure the broadcast. That removes your home PC and home upload link from the continuous outbound stream path, but it does not remove YouTube’s requirements. You still need an eligible channel, content you are allowed to stream, and a plan for monitoring and archiving.

Can OBS stream 24/7 on Indian broadband?
It can, if the full path—from the computer and router to your ISP’s upload route and YouTube—remains stable at the chosen bitrate. There is no India-specific upload-speed threshold established here: YouTube’s guidance is organized by codec, resolution, and frame rate, not country. Treat its bitrate figures as ingestion recommendations, not guarantees that a particular Indian connection will hold a stream overnight.

Start with YouTube’s H.264 recommendations
YouTube recommends these H.264 bitrates for the listed resolutions and frame rates. The figures are for the stream sent to YouTube, not a promised result on a given ISP. YouTube: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions

YouTube recommends RTMPS, CBR (constant bitrate), and a two-second keyframe interval. Match the settings in OBS to the intended stream and YouTube’s current guidance; do not assume a higher resolution or frame rate will be more stable simply because it is available in the encoder.

Measure upload with headroom, not just a speed-test peak
YouTube says the total stream bitrate should fit available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% room. Other people or devices using the same connection can reduce the capacity available to your stream. Its speed-test guidance focuses on outbound upload, not download speed. YouTube: Streaming tips
Test from the exact location and connection the streaming computer will use, ideally at the hours you intend to broadcast. A brief speed test is only a snapshot; it cannot establish overnight stability. Account for the stream’s total bitrate and concurrent household traffic, then test OBS with the real video and audio workload before relying on it.

OBS’s troubleshooting guidance suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when diagnosing dropped frames. This is a troubleshooting heuristic, not a guarantee of reliable service or a replacement for YouTube’s 20% headroom guidance. OBS: Stream Connection Troubleshooting
Set up a 24/7 prerecorded stream with OBS
- Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio in advance. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Confirm the channel can go live before the day you plan to start. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder
- Create or schedule the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown there into the encoder configuration. Keep the key private; reset it in the Live Control Room if it may have been exposed.
- Configure OBS for the intended output. Use H.264 settings appropriate to your target resolution and frame rate, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval. Set the bitrate using YouTube’s recommendations as a starting point and your measured upload as the constraint. Check that OBS is actually looping or playing the prerecorded source as intended; a running encoder cannot help if the media source ends or goes silent.
- Prefer a wired connection. Ethernet avoids some of Wi-Fi’s variability. Test the cable, router, modem, and computer on the same network path you will use for the broadcast.
- Preview and test before going live. Check picture, audio, motion, and stream-health indicators in YouTube Studio with realistic content. Watch long enough to catch connection or playback problems rather than judging by a short successful start.
- Keep the computer and connection available continuously. Local OBS streaming depends on the computer, its power, OBS, and the home network staying up. Plan who will notice and respond if the PC, router, ISP link, or stream fails.
When cloud hosting is the better fit
Cloud hosting is useful when the stream is a loop of uploaded recordings or a playlist and you do not want the broadcast to depend on a computer and broadband connection at home. It changes where the stream is sent from; it does not grant rebroadcast rights, activate live-streaming eligibility, or change YouTube’s archive behavior.

YouTube rules and archiving still apply
Use only content you are authorized to stream
Having a file or playlist does not itself establish the right to rebroadcast it. Check the permissions for music, video, game footage, and any other material in the stream, and review YouTube’s rules for the channel and content. A cloud service does not make copyrighted or otherwise disallowed material safe to rebroadcast. Do not rely on YouTube to preserve a continuous 24/7 archive
YouTube warns that if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all, and recommends keeping a local archive backup if preservation matters. That limit applies whether the stream is sent by OBS or from a cloud service. For a long-running channel, plan a separate recording or other archive workflow rather than assuming the live page will contain the full broadcast afterward. YouTube: Archive live streams
Troubleshoot the common OBS failures
