There is no established universal winner on price or uptime: the VPS total depends on its resources, bandwidth, storage, monitoring, and backups, while a managed plan has a published rate but product limits and offers can change.
At a glance: managed service or self-managed server?
| Decision | LiveReacting 24/7 plan | VPS with FFmpeg |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs the broadcast? | LiveReacting says its cloud servers run the configured stream after browser setup. Your computer can be turned off; this describes the vendor’s product behavior, not an independently verified uptime guarantee. LiveReacting | You configure and operate the server and encoder workflow, and are responsible for keeping the source media, network path, and recovery process working. FFmpeg |
| Control | Plan-defined quality and limits, with listed upgrades for selected settings. | Direct control over FFmpeg and server configuration, alongside responsibility for configuring and maintaining it. |
| Playlist and scheduling | The vendor describes playlist, looping, and scheduling workflows for its dedicated 24/7 plan. LiveReacting | Can be scripted, but a robust production recipe is not established here; you must build and maintain the workflow. |
| Cost basis | The dedicated plan displays a standard monthly rate; promotions and terms should be checked on the plan page. | No all-in price is established. Account for the instance, storage, bandwidth or egress, monitoring, backups, and your operating time. |
| Recovery | The vendor operates the streaming infrastructure; no service-level uptime or recovery guarantee is established by the cited plan information. | You can design recovery behavior, but must implement, monitor, and maintain it. No comparative uptime evidence is established. |
| YouTube connection | The service says it handles encoding of uploaded media to platform requirements and supports a YouTube connection. LiveReacting | You select the encoder settings and transport. YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingest; use its current guidance rather than treating a third-party command as universal. YouTube encoder settings |
What LiveReacting’s 24/7 plan includes
LiveReacting’s dedicated continuous-stream plan is distinct from its free test tier and other plans. The vendor’s plan page, accessed October 3, 2026, lists one concurrent stream, unlimited stream duration, 1080p standard quality with a 4K upgrade, 30 FPS with a 60 FPS upgrade, 100 GB of file storage, and a 10 GB maximum upload per video. It also lists video encoding and multistreaming to five destinations. These are vendor-stated plan details, not independent measurements; confirm the current limits, upgrade terms, billing interval, and offers on the 24/7 plan page before subscribing.
The page displays a standard rate of $39.99/month and a promotion. Treat the promotion as conditional rather than a recurring standard price, and verify the amount and billing terms directly before purchase. The free tier can be used to test the workflow within its limits; the vendor says continuous 24/7 operation requires the dedicated plan. LiveReacting pricing
What running FFmpeg on a VPS involves
A VPS route replaces a managed workflow with a server you operate. FFmpeg is the encoder and media-processing tool; the VPS supplies the remote compute and network connection. You choose how to feed video to the encoder and how to connect its output to YouTube, then maintain the process for as long as the stream is meant to run.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Provision the workload: select a server, storage, and network allowance appropriate to your media and encoding workload. No provider, region, or workload-specific instance size is established here.
- Prepare media and playback: organize the source files and decide how playback repeats or moves through a playlist. A reliable continuous schedule requires handling the end of files, transitions, and missing or unreadable media.
- Configure the encoder and YouTube ingest: choose output settings and a transport compatible with the current YouTube guidance. YouTube recommends RTMPS and publishes encoder recommendations; the correct settings depend on the intended output and should be checked in YouTube’s documentation. YouTube encoder settings
- Keep the service supervised: arrange process monitoring and a way to detect a failed encoder, lost network connection, exhausted storage, or rejected ingest. Restarting FFmpeg alone will not fix an expired or incorrect stream key, unavailable media, or a server-side problem.
- Plan for changes and recovery: document the configuration, protect the stream key, monitor resource and bandwidth use, and test what happens after a restart or interruption. A VPS does not automatically provide a proven recovery design just because the process runs remotely.
This comparison does not establish a one-size-fits-all FFmpeg command or bitrate: those depend on the source, desired output, server capacity, and YouTube’s current ingest instructions. Copying settings without checking those constraints can lead to dropped frames, an unstable stream, or ingest rejection.
How to decide whether the VPS is actually cheaper
Compare recurring total costs for the same stream workload, not just the VPS headline instance price against a managed-plan price. Include storage for source media, outbound bandwidth or egress charges, monitoring, backups, and any extra resources needed to encode reliably. Also count the time required to configure, inspect, and repair the system. The available information does not establish an all-in VPS quote or a universal cost winner.

LiveReacting’s displayed standard 24/7 plan rate is $39.99/month as accessed October 3, 2026; current promotional pricing and billing details may differ. Its plan limits—including one concurrent stream and standard 1080p/30 FPS with listed upgrades—are part of the comparison, not incidental details. Check current LiveReacting plans and compare them with a VPS quote using your actual storage and bandwidth needs.
Choose based on the work you want to own
LiveReacting fits when
- You want to configure the stream in a browser instead of managing an encoder and server.
- A playlist, looping workflow, or scheduling through the service meets your needs.
- The listed concurrent-stream, storage, upload-size, and quality limits fit your channel.
- You prefer a published managed-plan rate to assembling and operating separate infrastructure components.
A VPS with FFmpeg fits when
- You need the control of configuring your own encoder and server workflow.
- You can administer and monitor a Linux or other suitable server environment and troubleshoot stream interruptions.
- You have priced compute, storage, bandwidth, monitoring, backups, and maintenance for your particular workload.
- You are willing to build and test playlist and recovery behavior rather than rely on a browser-managed service.
Keep YouTube replay, rights, and channel rules in view
A continuous broadcast does not necessarily produce a complete replay. LiveReacting’s guide says YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours; that is the vendor’s summary of YouTube behavior, not a guarantee about every stream or current policy. Keep the original media and check YouTube’s current live-stream and monetization guidance if replay availability or watch-hour eligibility matters. LiveReacting’s 24/7 guide

Whether the stream is run by a managed service or your own FFmpeg process, you remain responsible for having the rights to the videos, music, and visuals you broadcast and for following YouTube’s channel and content policies. Infrastructure does not grant content rights or make a channel eligible for monetization.
