Yes—you can stream to Twitch and YouTube simultaneously. Twitch’s Terms of Service permits simulcasting, provided you give Twitch viewers an experience at least as good as viewers on other platforms, don’t direct your Twitch audience to the concurrent stream elsewhere, and don’t display combined cross-platform activity on the Twitch stream. For the setup, either encode locally with OBS and send to both services, or send one feed to a cloud relay that distributes it.
Check Twitch’s simulcasting rules first
Twitch’s Terms of Service, section 11, allows simulcasting to other services that support live streaming of user-generated content, subject to conditions. It states: “You ensure that the quality of Twitch users’ experience of your Simulcast is, at a minimum, no less than the experience on other platforms or services, including by your engagement with the Twitch community, for example, via chat.” Read Twitch’s Terms of Service before going live; the terms can change, and a separate agreement you have with Twitch may impose exclusivity.
- Keep Twitch’s audience experience on par. Don’t neglect Twitch chat or give Twitch viewers a worse stream than viewers on YouTube.
- Don’t send Twitch viewers elsewhere. Neutral links that identify your presence on another service are different from actively urging people watching on Twitch to leave for the YouTube stream.
- Don’t display merged platform activity on Twitch. Avoid overlays that combine Twitch chat or other activity with activity from YouTube on the Twitch broadcast. Twitch’s Help FAQ has discussed personal-use tools for combining activity, but that is not permission to display other-platform activity on the Twitch simulcast; follow the Terms of Service for what appears on stream.
These conditions are about your conduct and the Twitch broadcast, not a requirement to use a particular encoder or relay. Neither OBS nor a cloud service makes a stream compliant by itself.
Choose local OBS encoding or a cloud relay
| Approach | What happens | Best suited to | What to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local encoding | Your computer encodes the video and sends it to the streaming destinations, using a compatible multistream configuration. | Creators who want control and have sufficient computer capacity and upload bandwidth. | Encoding uses local processing. If you send separate outgoing feeds, your connection must support their combined target bitrates. |
| Cloud relay | You send one stream to a relay, which forwards it to Twitch and YouTube. | Creators who want a simpler distribution setup, have limited local capacity, or plan to reach more destinations. | The relay still needs to distribute the video onward. Provider features, destination limits, branding and pricing vary; check the current terms and plan. |
YouTube describes local hardware/software encoding as an option for creators who want more control and have a powerful computer; cloud-service encoding can simplify setup and reduce local workload. Its guidance says cloud services may be suitable when sending to more than two channels. That is a workflow consideration, not a guarantee that a specific provider or plan supports your chosen destinations or quality.

Local workflow: OBS with a multistream configuration
Install OBS Studio, then configure a compatible multistream plugin or multi-output setup to send your broadcast to Twitch and YouTube. Twitch’s encoder documentation describes software encoders such as OBS and uses RTMP with a platform-assigned stream key. YouTube also supports local encoding. The official guidance establishes local encoding as an approach, but does not certify a particular plugin or give a universal set of multi-output steps. Check the plugin’s current documentation and compatibility before relying on it.
Cloud workflow: relay service
A relay can accept one encoder feed and distribute it to multiple destinations. For example, Restream’s guide describes connecting Twitch and YouTube accounts, creating a stream with its RTMP encoder option, enabling both destinations, copying the relay key into OBS, and starting the stream from OBS. Its browser-based Studio is another option if you don’t want to use OBS. These are Restream’s own product instructions, not an independent performance test; confirm current feature availability and plan limits with the provider.
Cloudflare Stream documents a different distribution pattern: create a live input and add destination outputs such as Twitch and YouTube. Its documentation says one input can simulcast to up to 50 concurrent destinations, and the page was last updated April 21, 2026. That limit describes Cloudflare Stream, not multistreaming services generally.

Prepare both channels before you configure the stream
- Enable YouTube live streaming. Verify your YouTube channel and request live-stream access. YouTube says first-time activation can take at least 24 hours after the request, so do this well before a scheduled broadcast. Check YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- Check both accounts. Make sure you can access Twitch and YouTube and that neither account has a restriction that prevents the broadcast. If your Twitch agreement includes exclusivity, resolve that before simulcasting.
- Choose your path. Use local encoding if you want direct control and have enough computer capacity and upload headroom. Use a relay if you want to send one feed and let a service handle distribution.
- Gather the connection details required by your setup. Depending on the encoder or relay, you may need a platform’s RTMP server URL and stream key, or a relay’s own ingest URL and key. Treat stream keys as passwords: don’t publish them or show them in a screen capture.
- Configure both destinations. With a local setup, use the compatible multistream configuration’s current instructions. With a relay, connect both accounts, enable Twitch and YouTube as destinations, and enter the relay’s ingest details in OBS or your chosen encoder.
- Test before the real broadcast. Where appropriate, test privately or with an unlisted YouTube event. Confirm Twitch is live, check YouTube’s stream health, and verify audio, video, and chat handling on both services.
Estimate upload bandwidth for separate outgoing feeds
If your local setup sends a separate feed to each platform, add the target bitrates together. YouTube’s example is a 6 Mbps feed plus a 4 Mbps feed, for a combined target of 10 Mbps. YouTube recommends upload speed of 1.5 to 2 times that sum for stability—15–20 Mbps in that example—particularly on a shared connection. This is YouTube’s guidance, not a guarantee that a given connection will sustain every stream without issues.
A relay changes the local upload pattern because your encoder sends one feed to the relay rather than separate feeds to each destination. The relay still needs capacity to deliver streams onward; check your provider’s requirements. For either approach, test using realistic audio and video movement, and watch the platform’s stream-health alerts during the broadcast.
- Other devices, cloud backups, downloads and household traffic can consume upload capacity.
- Leave headroom rather than planning to use all available upload speed for video.
- If the stream is unstable, reduce the target bitrate or address network congestion, then test again.
Keep the Twitch stream compliant while you broadcast
- Engage with Twitch viewers so their experience is not worse than the experience on YouTube.
- Don’t tell Twitch viewers to switch to your concurrent YouTube broadcast.
- Keep cross-platform chat and activity off the Twitch simulcast. If you use a tool to view combined activity personally, distinguish that private use from displaying it on stream.
- Use content you have the right to broadcast. Simulcasting does not grant permission to use copyrighted music, gameplay footage or other material; follow each platform’s applicable rules.
Troubleshoot common multistream problems
YouTube won’t let you start a live stream
Likely cause: Live streaming has not been enabled for the channel, or the first-time activation is still processing. Fix: Verify the channel and request access in advance; YouTube says initial activation can take at least 24 hours.

The stream drops, stutters or reports poor health
Likely cause: The available upload speed is insufficient for the outgoing bitrate, or the connection is congested. Fix: For separate feeds, calculate their combined target bitrate and compare it with available upload speed using YouTube’s recommended 1.5–2× headroom as a guide. Test with typical content, reduce bitrate if needed, and monitor stream-health warnings. With a relay, check the encoder-to-relay connection and the provider’s requirements.
One destination is live but the other is not
Likely cause: A destination is disabled or its stream key or server details are incorrect. Fix: Check that both destinations are enabled in the multistream setup or relay, verify the relevant RTMP details, and check each platform’s live dashboard rather than assuming one successful output means both are receiving video.

Cost and equipment considerations
Local encoding requires a capable computer, but a streaming PC is not automatically necessary if you already have suitable hardware or choose a cloud relay. A cloud relay may offer no-cost plans with limitations and paid upgrades; destination count, resolution, branding and pricing depend on the provider and plan, so verify them before committing. Capture cards, microphones, webcams and dedicated encoders are not prerequisites for the basic task of sending an existing gaming stream to both platforms.
