Yes—you can livestream a Zoom Webinar to YouTube if webinar livestreaming is enabled for your Zoom account, the host has a Webinars license, YouTube is allowed as a destination, and the YouTube channel is eligible to go live. You can use Zoom’s configured YouTube destination or enter YouTube stream details through Zoom’s custom streaming option.

Before you set it up

  • Zoom: An account owner or admin may need to enable webinar livestreaming and allow YouTube. Zoom identifies Pro, Business, or Enterprise accounts for changing this account setting. The webinar host also needs a Webinars license.
  • YouTube: The channel must be verified and not subject to a live-streaming restriction from the past 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so check eligibility well before the event.
  • Event details: Decide whether viewers should find the YouTube stream publicly, through a link, or not at all. Set the YouTube event’s privacy accordingly, and make sure the person configuring Zoom can access the required event details.

If the account-level option is locked or missing, ask the Zoom account owner or admin to check it before troubleshooting video quality.

Enable YouTube livestreaming in Zoom

  1. Ask the Zoom account owner or admin to open Account Management → Account Settings → Webinar.
  2. Turn on Allow livestreaming and allow YouTube among the permitted services. If the setting is locked, only an account-level administrator may be able to change it.
  3. Confirm that the webinar host is assigned a Zoom Webinars license.

Zoom’s interface can change, so use the webinar’s current livestream settings rather than relying on an old click-by-click guide. If YouTube is not available as a destination, check the account policy and host license first.

Make sure the YouTube channel is ready

  1. Verify the channel and confirm that it can currently livestream. If live streaming is being enabled for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
  2. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live event and select its privacy setting.
  3. Keep the event’s stream details available to the person configuring the Zoom webinar. Do not post a stream key publicly or send it in an unsecured public channel.

YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key like a password; reset it if you believe it has been exposed.

Choose how Zoom connects to YouTube

Route What you configure When it fits
Zoom’s enabled YouTube destination An admin enables webinar livestreaming and allows YouTube; the host selects the configured destination when starting the stream. A straightforward Zoom-to-YouTube setup when the account permits the platform destination.
Custom Live Streaming Service The organizer enters YouTube’s stream URL, stream key, and live-streaming page URL in the scheduled webinar’s Live Streaming tab. Zoom’s documented custom workflow offers 720p Standard HD and 1080p Full HD choices. A custom destination workflow that requires entering stream credentials. The setup can be saved before the event so the host can start it after the webinar begins.

The 720p and 1080p choices are settings in Zoom’s documented custom workflow, not a guarantee that every account, route, webinar, or network will deliver a particular resolution. Check the YouTube preview and the result viewers receive.

Configure the custom streaming route

  1. Open the scheduled webinar’s Live Streaming tab and choose Custom Live Streaming Service.
  2. Enter the YouTube stream URL, stream key, and live-streaming page URL exactly as provided for the YouTube event. Keep the key private.
  3. Select the available resolution setting that suits the event and connection, then save the configuration. Zoom’s documented choices are 720p Standard HD and 1080p Full HD.
  4. Before attendees arrive, start a test or use the YouTube preview to confirm that the destination is receiving video and audio.

Start the webinar stream

  1. Start the Zoom Webinar as the host.
  2. Use the host controls to start livestreaming and select the configured YouTube destination. For the custom route, choose Live on Custom Live Streaming Service from the Livestream control.
  3. If the custom stream was configured in advance, follow the browser window that appears while Zoom prepares the stream.
  4. Check the YouTube preview and watch page before directing attendees there. Confirm the picture, sound, and access/privacy behavior are right for the event.

Preflight the stream and monitor it live

  • Set up early: Leave time to resolve account permissions, channel eligibility, and stream-key mistakes before the audience arrives.
  • Check representative content: Test speech, other important audio, and movement on screen. A USB microphone may help spoken audio, but no microphone purchase is required to configure the Zoom-to-YouTube workflow.
  • Check available upload capacity: YouTube recommends keeping total outgoing bitrate within upload capacity with about 20% headroom. The native Zoom destination’s exposed controls may differ from encoder settings.
  • Watch stream health: Monitor YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators during the event, and check the result from the viewer-facing watch page.
  • Keep credentials private: Do not reveal the stream key in a screen share, public post, or recording. Reset it if compromised.

For a separate encoder workflow, YouTube recommends RTMPS and publishes encoder guidance including H.264 and constant bitrate. Its current recommendation for H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps is 14 Mbps. That is YouTube ingestion guidance for encoder streams—not a required bitrate for Zoom’s native YouTube destination.

Troubleshooting common problems

Symptom Likely check What to do
YouTube is missing from the Zoom livestream choices Account-level livestream permission, permitted services, or the host’s Webinars license. Ask the Zoom account owner or admin to enable webinar livestreaming and allow YouTube; confirm the host is licensed for Webinars.
The channel cannot start a live stream Channel verification, a live-stream restriction, or first-time activation still processing. Check channel eligibility and allow up to 24 hours for first-time live activation.
The custom stream does not connect Whether the stream URL, key, and page URL correspond to the intended YouTube event and were copied accurately. Recheck each field in the webinar’s Live Streaming tab. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the Zoom configuration.
The preview works but the broadcast looks poor or unstable Upload capacity, available bitrate headroom, and YouTube’s stream-health indicators. Check the outgoing connection and aim for about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond total bitrate, as YouTube recommends. For encoder settings, use YouTube’s guidance rather than assuming those values apply to Zoom’s native route.
Viewers cannot access the stream The YouTube event’s privacy setting and whether the viewer has the correct watch-page access. Review the event’s privacy in YouTube Studio and verify the watch page from a viewer’s perspective before sharing it.

Copyright and audience expectations

Only include video, music, and other material you have permission to livestream. A successful connection does not establish that you have rights to the content. Check YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream policies before the event, especially if the webinar includes third-party media. If you are streaming prerecorded material rather than the live webinar itself, consider whether the channel’s content and presentation meet YouTube’s applicable monetization and reused-content rules; the available setup information does not establish how YouTube will assess a particular channel or video.

For a practical rights review, use StreamNeo’s copyright safety checklist.
