To show different videos during one continuing YouTube Live event, keep OBS sending its encoder feed and switch the media playing in an OBS scene. For multiple local video files, add them to OBS’s VLC Video Source playlist. YouTube’s own playlist controls only organize viewer playback; they do not make a live broadcast cycle through playlist items.
Why a YouTube playlist won’t switch videos in your live broadcast
A YouTube playlist and a YouTube Live feed serve different purposes. YouTube’s Loop control repeats a video or playlist for someone watching on YouTube; it does not supply videos to an encoder or change the content of an existing live broadcast. The live event receives the video and audio your encoder sends. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe that feed-based workflow.
To change what viewers see without ending the event, put the video files in OBS as media sources and change the source or scene while the encoder remains connected. This is a practical use of OBS sources within the outgoing feed, not a YouTube guarantee that every change will be seamless. Test the transition before relying on it live.

Create the YouTube Live event and connect OBS
In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the event. Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings, then connect OBS and confirm that YouTube receives the feed. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your channel. YouTube distinguishes ending an event from changing encoder content: its instructions say, “To end the stream, click End Stream and stop sending content from your encoder.” YouTube Help: stream with an encoder.

Add a VLC Video Source playlist
In OBS, select the scene you want to use, then add a VLC Video Source and add the local video files to its playlist. VLC must be installed for this source to be available. Choose ordered playback or shuffle, and enable Loop Playlist only if you want the sequence to repeat. OBS documents these playlist controls and the source’s behavior when hidden in its VLC Video Source guide.

Keep the encoder feed running as you change content
When you want another video to appear, advance the VLC playlist or switch to a scene or source containing the next video. Do not stop OBS’s stream just to change the media. In practice, this keeps the encoder sending a feed to the same live event while its contents change. The sources document the feed and source workflows, but do not promise that transitions will be interruption-free.

Preview and test before broadcasting publicly
Run a private or unlisted test first. Check the Live Control Room preview, confirm both picture and sound, and watch the stream health indicators while you advance or switch videos. YouTube recommends previewing and monitoring an encoder stream; its live encoder settings and troubleshooting guidance also explains that latency is the delay between capture and playback. Lower latency can mean more buffering, and YouTube does not quantify how changing an OBS media source affects a particular transition.
Choose the OBS source for the playback you need

These are OBS sources in the encoder output, not YouTube player playlists. Do not assume that pasting a YouTube playlist link into VLC Video Source is a supported or reliable way to rebroadcast the videos. The documented setup here is for local media files. Common problems and fixes
- The YouTube playlist does not change the live picture: That playlist is for viewer playback, not the encoder feed. Add media files as OBS sources and switch them there.
- VLC Video Source is missing in OBS: Install VLC, which OBS requires for this source, then reopen OBS and check the source list again. OBS VLC Video Source guide.
- The playlist stops after one pass: Enable Loop Playlist if you want the sequence to repeat. Check that the files are actually listed in the VLC source.
- Changing videos causes a visible or audible interruption: The official setup instructions do not guarantee seamless transitions. Test the exact files and scene changes in a private or unlisted event, and monitor YouTube’s preview and stream health before going public. YouTube encoder guidance.
- YouTube says the stream ended: Check whether OBS stopped sending its feed or whether you explicitly ended the event in Live Control Room. Changing an OBS source should not require ending the event; YouTube’s documented end procedure is to click End Stream and stop sending encoder content. YouTube Help.
