The practical route is to download files you are permitted to use, play them in sequence with an encoder-capable setup, and send that output to YouTube Live. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming; its documentation does not describe a native Google Drive playlist feature.
Before you start: check eligibility, access and rights
Confirm that the channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. The minimum age to live stream is 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming well before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Check Drive permissions on the streaming machine
Sign in with the account that will prepare the files and verify that it can access and download each video. A Drive owner or organization administrator may restrict sharing or disable downloads, and access granted by a link does not guarantee that the file can be downloaded. Test the actual files from the computer or storage used for streaming. Google explains how to download files from Google Drive and how owners can control sharing and access.
Get permission to rebroadcast every item
Having a video in Drive does not establish the right to broadcast it. Confirm that you own or have permission to use the video, music, and other material in every file. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, and matching content that remains in a stream may cause it to be interrupted or terminated. For licensed third-party content, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and its copyright guidance for creators.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a way to play the playlist
You need a playback setup that can advance through the downloaded files and send its output to YouTube Live. YouTube supports both software encoders and standalone hardware encoders, but the reviewed YouTube guidance does not prescribe a specific app or Drive-playlist recipe. Choose a setup that can play the whole sequence unattended for the duration you need.
| Option | What to check | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on a computer | Can it play local files in sequence, control audio and overlays, and keep streaming for the full session? | Offers playback and production control in one setup, but the computer and internet connection must remain available throughout. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | Can it play the files in sequence, schedule or sustain the broadcast, and recover appropriately if the connection drops? | Can be a dedicated streaming setup, but playlist support and controls vary by device; confirm these before relying on it. |
Neither option is established as universally better for this workflow. Compare playlist playback, scheduling, audio and overlay controls, reliability for your planned duration, and total cost. No paid encoder purchase is required by the YouTube workflow described here.

Prepare the files and playlist
- Gather the videos in Drive. Make sure each file is accessible to the account and setup that will prepare the stream. If an owner has disabled downloading, ask for permission or another authorized delivery method rather than trying to bypass the restriction.
- Download permitted files. Save the videos to the computer or storage that the playback setup will use. Drive may impose temporary download limits, so do not leave downloading until the broadcast is about to begin.
- Build the sequence in the playback application. Add the local files in the intended order using that application’s media playback or playlist feature. Verify it advances automatically from one file to the next; a folder of videos alone is not necessarily a playable sequence.
- Review the transitions and ending. Check for gaps, unexpected black frames, inconsistent audio levels, or a final file that leaves a frozen or blank output. Decide whether the sequence should stop, repeat, or transition to a closing slate.
Connect the encoder to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or select the live event and choose the encoder workflow. Follow the current YouTube instructions for streaming with an encoder; interface labels and event steps may change.
- Copy the connection details shown for your event. Use the stream URL and stream key displayed in your own Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not share it, publish it, or include it in a screenshot. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Configure the encoder’s YouTube output. Enter the connection details in the encoder and select the prepared playlist as its media source. Use RTMPS when available for secure transport. Keep the playlist playing locally or in the encoder while you verify the incoming preview.
- Set output quality and transmission settings. Follow YouTube’s current encoder settings recommendations for supported resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a keyframe interval of two seconds, with keyframes not exceeding four seconds. Match the encoder’s output to the source and your available upload capacity rather than assuming that a higher setting is always better.
- Start the encoder, then confirm the broadcast. Check that YouTube receives a stable preview and reports healthy stream status before starting the live broadcast in the Live Control Room. Once live, monitor stream health and playback.
Preflight the whole broadcast
Run a rehearsal with the same files, sequence, audio, and output settings you plan to use. YouTube recommends testing with similar audio and movement and monitoring stream health. For this playlist use case, also check:
- Every file plays in order and the transition to the next file happens without manual action.
- Audio is present and reasonably consistent across clips; listen on the output, not only inside the editing or playback application.
- The start and end behave as intended, including what viewers will see after the final item.
- No desktop notifications, private windows, or unrelated material can appear in the broadcast.
- The streaming connection has enough upload capacity for the selected output, and YouTube’s preview and health indicators remain satisfactory.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A Drive file will not download | The signed-in account lacks access, the owner disabled downloading, an organization policy restricts it, or a temporary download limit applies. | Verify access with the file owner or administrator, use the authorized streaming account, and retry later if Drive reports a temporary limit. |
| The next playlist item does not start | The playback setup is not configured for sequential playback, or the sequence contains an unsupported or unavailable file. | Test each item in order before going live, confirm automatic advancement, and replace or re-export any file the application cannot play. |
| YouTube receives no video | The encoder is not sending, the stream URL or key is incorrect, or the wrong media source is selected. | Check the event’s connection details in Live Control Room, confirm the encoder is running and the playlist is its active source, then inspect YouTube’s preview. |
| The preview is unstable or stream health is poor | The upload connection may not sustain the selected output settings, or encoder settings may not match YouTube’s current guidance. | Check upload capacity, use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations, and repeat the test before restarting the broadcast. |
| The live stream is interrupted or terminated | YouTube may have detected third-party material, or a rights holder’s Content ID settings may not permit the broadcast. | Review the stream’s notices and rights for every video and track. If the content is licensed, ask the rights holder about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist. |
