Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo add captions automatically, open the tool where you edit or publish the video, choose its spoken language, generate captions from speech, then correct the transcript and timing before you publish or export. YouTube Studio is for uploaded YouTube videos; YouTube Create is for short mobile projects; Adobe Premiere Pro and CapCut add captions within editing workflows. AI captions are a first draft, not a verified transcript.
Choose a caption workflow for your video
| Tool | Best fit | Key consideration |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio | A video already uploaded to YouTube | Creates a platform caption track; processing may take time and language support is finite. YouTube Help |
| YouTube Create | A short mobile video project | Caption generation is limited to clips no longer than 60 seconds, with listed device requirements. YouTube Help |
| Adobe Premiere Pro | A desktop editing timeline or translated caption tracks | Captions can be generated from a transcript, edited, and styled in the project. Adobe Help |
| CapCut | Editing on web, desktop, or mobile | The core recognition workflow is documented across these platforms; some advanced features vary by platform, region, and app version. CapCut |
Choose based on where the video is and what you need to deliver: a YouTube caption track, editable captions in a timeline, translated tracks, a subtitle file, or text burned into the picture. The cited workflows do not establish that one tool is more accurate than the others.
Before generating captions
- Select the language actually spoken in the video. Check the tool’s supported-language list, especially for less common languages or dialects.
- Use the clearest available audio. Background noise, low volume, long silence, overlapping speakers, and multiple languages at once can result in missing or incorrect captions.
- Decide whether captions should be selectable as a caption track or permanently visible in the video. Export options differ by tool and version, so confirm the deliverable in your current app.
- Plan to review the output. Pay particular attention to names, numbers, technical terms, punctuation, speaker changes, and the start and end of each caption.
Add captions to an uploaded video in YouTube Studio
- Upload the video to YouTube and allow YouTube to process its automatic captions. They may not be ready immediately; processing time depends on audio complexity.
- Sign in to YouTube Studio, open Subtitles, and select the video.
- Open the automatic caption track once it is available. Review the transcript, correct errors, and remove any text that does not belong.
- Save or publish the corrected captions using the controls shown for that video.
YouTube says automatic captions can contain mistakes because of accents, dialects, mispronunciations, and background noise. It advises creators to review and edit them. Its supported-language list is broad but finite; unsupported language, poor sound, silence, long video, overlapping speech, or simultaneous languages can prevent captions from appearing or reduce reliability. See YouTube’s automatic-caption guidance.
What to know about YouTube live captions
YouTube’s live automatic captions have availability conditions: the help page describes English-only support, normal-latency streams, professional captions being unavailable, rollout availability, and channel-level constraints. Live captions do not remain after the stream ends; YouTube generates new automatic captions for the video-on-demand version. Check the current YouTube Help page before relying on live caption availability.

YouTube Create cannot generate captions for clips longer than 60 seconds. YouTube currently lists Android phones with at least 4 GB of RAM and iPhone XR or later running iOS 17 or later as supported device requirements. Confirm the current requirements and controls in YouTube Create Help.
Create caption tracks in Adobe Premiere Pro
- When importing media, select Automatic Transcription. If the media is already in the project, open the Captions workspace and choose Create captions from transcript.
- Choose the transcription language. If needed, download its language pack; select speaker labeling and the audio source to analyze where those options are available.
- Set the caption format and preset, and adjust caption length, duration, and gaps to suit the edit.
- Generate the timecoded caption track, then correct its wording and timing in the timeline.
- If needed, create additional tracks in supported languages using Premiere’s translation workflow, and apply styling across tracks.
- Review every track before export, including translated text. Adobe recommends checking generated captions for accuracy before exporting.
For current controls and language availability, consult Adobe’s Speech to Text documentation.

Generate captions in CapCut
- Open or import a project in CapCut on web, desktop, or mobile.
- Choose Auto captions, select the source language, and generate captions.
- Edit the text and timing, then adjust the caption style.
- On desktop, export the rendered video when the captions look right. Check your version’s export controls if you need a separate subtitle file or another deliverable.
CapCut’s core recognition workflow is documented across web, desktop, and mobile. Speaker differentiation, punctuation refinement, and batch SRT export may depend on platform, region, and app version. To make bilingual captions, CapCut documents choosing both a recognition language and a target translation language; review the translation as well as the original transcript. See CapCut’s workflow guide and bilingual-caption guide.
Check and correct the generated captions
- Listen while reading the captions, rather than proofreading from the transcript alone.
- Correct names, numbers, acronyms, game titles, and specialized vocabulary. Speech recognition can turn a plausible-sounding error into a misleading caption.
- Check punctuation and speaker changes, then adjust timing so each caption appears with the relevant speech and does not linger or flash too quickly.
- Check readability on a phone-sized preview. Keep text clear of important on-screen action and interface elements.
- Review any translation independently for meaning and natural phrasing; translating is a separate step from transcribing.
- Export or publish, then play the result to confirm captions are present in the intended form.
There is no like-for-like accuracy benchmark established for the named tools here, so the choice should turn on workflow, language availability, and deliverable—not an unsupported claim that one recognizes speech best.

Troubleshoot missing or inaccurate captions
| Problem | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| No automatic captions appear on a YouTube upload | Processing is incomplete, the spoken language is unsupported, or the audio has noise, silence, overlapping speech, or simultaneous languages. | Allow processing time, verify the language, and check YouTube’s supported-language and troubleshooting guidance. Improve the source audio if you can re-export the video. |
| Words are missing or wrong | Accents, dialects, mispronunciations, background noise, or unclear speech can confuse recognition. | Correct the transcript manually and recheck the relevant section while listening. If you can edit the source, clearer audio may help; a microphone is only relevant when recording new footage. |
| YouTube Create will not caption the clip | The clip exceeds the 60-second limit, or the device does not meet the listed requirements. | Use a shorter clip or choose another workflow such as YouTube Studio, Premiere Pro, or CapCut. |
| Live captions are unavailable or disappear after a stream | Live-caption eligibility and availability conditions apply, and live captions do not carry over to the video-on-demand version. | Check YouTube’s current live-caption conditions; review or edit the separately generated captions on the archived video. |
| A control or export option is missing | The feature may differ by platform, region, app version, or language support. | Check the tool’s current help page and the installed version; use a different workflow if it does not provide the required output. |
