OBS Studio is the best fit for a product demo when you want free desktop software and detailed control over scenes, screen captures, and audio. If you would rather run a browser-based show with guests and built-in distribution tools, compare StreamYard and Restream. The right choice depends on how you plan to present—not on a proven universal winner: the available product information describes features, not equivalent hands-on tests.
How to choose software for a product demo
A useful demo has to make the product legible, keep the narration clear, and move smoothly between the product, slides, and presenter. Choose software around those needs:
- Setup model: OBS is a desktop encoder with configurable scenes; StreamYard and Restream offer browser-based studios.
- Screen sharing and guests: Check whether a guest can share a tab, window, or full screen and how the host brings that material into the show.
- Visual control: Consider scenes, layouts, overlays, logos, backgrounds, and transitions. The available controls and their plan limits differ.
- Distribution: Check how many destinations you can stream to at once, which destinations are supported, and whether you can connect an external encoder.
- Recording: Confirm whether you need a recording, local or source-level tracks, cloud storage, or clips—and whether the plan includes enough capacity.
- Cost and setup effort: Free desktop software can require more configuration; a hosted studio may bundle parts of the workflow into a paid plan. There is no quantified learning-curve or total-cost comparison here.
Product demo software compared
| Software | Best fit | Workflow and relevant features | Plan considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio | Presenters who want flexible desktop production without a software subscription | Free, open-source desktop software for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Builds scenes from sources such as window captures, browser windows, webcams, images, and capture cards, and mixes audio and video in real time. | Software is free. The available information does not establish comparative reliability or ease of learning. |
| StreamYard | Presenters who prefer a browser studio, screen sharing, and guest handling | Its tech-demo guidance describes a browser workflow centered on screen sharing, camera, and branding. It also outlines pairing OBS for custom visuals with StreamYard for guests, multistreaming, and recording. | Plan limits affect branding, resolution, destinations, recording, seats, and storage. The Free plan has stream limits, limited storage, branding, one seat, and two hours per month of local recordings. Displayed Core features include Full HD, three destinations, and recording; Advanced adds 4K local recordings and up to eight destinations. Confirm current terms and prices on the vendor page. |
| Restream | Presenters who want a browser studio or an encoder-plus-distribution workflow | Restream identifies product launches and demos as a use case. Its browser Studio supports guests sharing a browser tab, window, or full screen, with the host controlling whether to show the share. It also documents using OBS as an encoder, unified chat, webinars, and scheduling recorded video as live. | Its free, Standard, Professional, and Business tiers differ in simultaneous-channel limits and other features. Check current plan details and destination limits before choosing. |
These are feature-based fits from vendor materials, not a ranking based on hands-on testing, independent benchmarks, or controlled comparisons.
When OBS Studio is the right choice
Choose OBS if you are comfortable configuring a desktop production setup and want to compose the show from separate sources. You can arrange a product window, browser content, webcam, images, and other supported sources into scenes, then switch among them during the demo. That makes it a strong starting point when you need tailored layouts or want to control several video and audio elements yourself.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
OBS is free and open source and runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its flexibility also means you should allow time to configure and rehearse your scenes. The available evidence does not establish that OBS is easier, more reliable, or produces better results than the browser studios.
When a browser studio fits better
StreamYard for a hosted demo and guest workflow
StreamYard’s tech-demo guidance describes screen sharing, camera, and branding in a browser studio. It also suggests a hybrid workflow: use OBS for more elaborate custom visuals, then use StreamYard for guests, multistreaming, and recording. This can suit a presenter who wants some desktop scene control but prefers a hosted space for the rest of the show.

Restream for guest screen sharing or OBS distribution
Restream’s browser Studio lets a guest share a browser tab, window, or full screen; the host decides whether to put that share on the stream. For a demo already composed in OBS, Restream also documents connecting the encoder by linking an account or entering an RTMP stream key, then managing enabled channels and monitoring stream status.

Prepare your demo and equipment
Make the product and narration easy to follow
- Decide which product views, slides, and presenter shots you need, then arrange them as scenes or layouts in your chosen software.
- Rehearse the transitions between those views so the audience is not left watching you search for a window or setting.
- Listen for clear narration and distracting room echo. Headphones can help reduce echo.
- Use lighting that makes the presenter visible if you include a camera shot.
Start with the equipment you have
Restream’s equipment guidance says a built-in camera and microphone can be reasonable starting points. Match camera quality to your target resolution; consider a microphone upgrade if spoken audio needs improvement. A built-in microphone remains a valid way to begin.

Check your connection
Restream recommends at least 10 Mbps of bandwidth and 25 Mbps or more, especially for Full HD, and favors a wired connection for stability. These are vendor recommendations, not guarantees: actual results depend on the encoder, destination requirements, network conditions, and other traffic on the connection.

When a prerecorded demo should stay live on YouTube
A scheduled product walkthrough or feature reel that should continue playing when you are not presenting is a different job from an interactive live demo. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos or playlists; it does not stream a live camera feed. If that prerecorded format suits your goal, you upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The stream runs from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. See StreamNeo or its plan details; $9.99 per month. Start a free day on StreamNeo.
