Gray Zone Warfare is a paid PC open-world tactical shooter set on the fictional island of Lamang, with PvE and PvEvP play. At the research date of October 3, 2026, its developer had scheduled Update 0.5: Rogue Ops for October 22, with Supporter Preview access beginning October 19. The update’s announced focus is a player-built Hideout, crafting and rogue PMC smuggling. Those features were still upcoming on October 3, not yet playable.
What is Gray Zone Warfare?
MADFINGER Games describes Gray Zone Warfare as a PvE-first open-world tactical shooter. Players take the role of a private military contractor on Lamang, exploring its regions, acquiring gear and advancing through tasks and vendor reputation. The official Gray Zone Warfare site lists the game for PC.
The game offers PvE and PvEvP modes. In PvE, players face the game world’s threats without the player-versus-player element; PvEvP combines environmental threats with the possibility of encounters with other players. That distinction matters when carrying progression into Update 0.5, because the announced transfer requires a mode choice.
What changes in Update 0.4?
Update 0.4 provides the current progression foundation described in MADFINGER Games’ March 18, 2026 developer summary. The developer reports more than 250 tasks in total, including over 100 new tasks and contracts and more than 50 updated tasks. Tasks are grouped as Main Tasks, Side Tasks and Contracts; some involve puzzles and interacting with the world. The summary says most tasks can be replayed, except those in Starter Town, and availability is no longer tied to a specific time of day.

Map, tasks and vendors
The redesigned tactical map shows tasks and approximate objective locations, and players can accept tasks from it. Vendor stock is specialized and vendors unlock through rank milestones. MADFINGER says all vendor stock is unlimited, and vendors sell secure containers. The update also ties progression more closely to exploration and makes lore discoverable through locations and intel.
The March update summary counts 351 intel items, 68 of them lootable. It also says the game tracks more than 500 player statistics, with most starting to track from Update 0.4 onward. These are developer-published counts, not independently audited totals.

AI and performance claims
The developer says AI groups patrol designated areas and bosses appear with guards. It also describes clearer hit reactions and changes intended to address enemies seeming to detect players with unnatural accuracy or kill them with a single long-distance shot. That is MADFINGER’s account of its design changes, not an independent assessment of AI behavior.
MADFINGER forecast an approximately 3 GB reduction in RAM usage and cited roughly 50% better scope-system performance against the version current at the time of its March 2026 update. Those are developer estimates and comparisons, not a guarantee for every PC or a current independent benchmark. The same update described server performance as its best since version 0.1 at that time and said NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 was planned for a later patch; neither statement establishes present-day performance or implementation status.

What is coming in Update 0.5: Rogue Ops?
In its October 1, 2026 announcement, MADFINGER scheduled Update 0.5 for October 22 and Supporter Preview access for October 19. The studio calls the update the transition from pre-alpha to alpha. It describes a new gameplay loop built around constructing a Hideout and crafting, alongside rogue PMC smuggling activities. New weapons, large locations and community-requested improvements are also planned, with further details promised in a three-part developer-log series.
These are announced plans as of October 3, 2026. The scheduled preview and full release dates were still in the future at that point; the announcement does not establish that the features or dates remained unchanged after that date.

What gets wiped—and what carries over?
MADFINGER announced a soft wipe for Update 0.5. Its October 1 announcement says locker contents and money are removed, while rank, unlocked apparel, vendor levels and completed tasks from Update 0.4 persist. This is a partial reset, not a full loss of progression.
Choose a mode before transferring progress
Players transferring existing character progress into the preview or full version must choose either PvE or PvEvP. The announcement says this choice is irreversible. It also says players can create up to four characters, choosing a mode and faction for them. Decide which environment you want for the transferred character before confirming the selection.

Which edition should you buy?
The official site lists four digital editions and their US prices as of October 3, 2026. Prices and terms can change, so check the live store listing before buying. The editions primarily differ in included starting equipment, currency and storage; the Supporter Edition also includes preview access.

The official site describes web purchases as standalone bundle keys that include the base game; it says those web editions are not sold as separate upgrades there and existing Steam ownership does not earn a web-store discount. MADFINGER’s April 1 edition explainer says included items can also be earned in-game and describes upgrades by paying the price difference. A separate Steam announcement listed a 33% sale from October 1 at 10 a.m. PDT / 7 p.m. CEST through October 8 at those same times. That was a limited sale window, not a lasting price.
For a player who wants the game without paying extra for a larger starting bundle, the Base Game is the entry option. Higher tiers chiefly buy more initial storage, gear and currency; the Supporter Edition’s notable distinction is preview access. The developer says edition items can be earned through play, so the available information does not make a higher tier necessary for access to core items.
