To record multiple inputs in OBS, add each one to a scene, arrange them in the preview, and start recording. OBS records the scene as one composed video—not each visual source as its own editable video track. If you need separate audio for editing, assign audio sources to separate recording tracks in Advanced Audio Properties and enable those tracks in Output settings.
How OBS handles multiple sources
A scene is the layout OBS records. It can contain inputs such as a game, display, window, webcam, capture device, image, text, media file, or audio source. The recording shows the visible sources combined in the scene.
Sources are layered: items higher in the Sources list appear in front of lower items and may cover them. You can reorder sources and toggle their visibility to change what appears. OBS documents multiple recording tracks for audio; that does not mean each visual source is saved as a separate video track.
Add and arrange sources in a scene
- Create or select a scene. Choose the scene you want to record, or create one for this layout.
- Add each input. In the Sources dock, click + and choose the source type that matches the input. For example, use Display Capture for a whole display, Window Capture for a particular window, Game Capture for a game on Windows, Video Capture Device for a webcam or capture device, and Media Source for a media file. Available sources and capture methods vary by operating system.
- Position and size sources. Select a source in the preview and drag or resize it to place it in the composition. For a webcam overlay, place and size it where it will not obscure important gameplay or other content.
- Set the layer order. In the Sources list, move a source higher to show it in front of lower sources. Use the eye control to hide or show a source while keeping it in the scene.
- Check audio activity. Watch the Audio Mixer meters while speaking or playing sound to confirm the inputs you intend to record are active.
Choose the capture source for your input
Use the source that matches what you need on screen rather than adding hardware by default. OBS documents Game Capture for Windows. On macOS 13 and later, OBS directs users to macOS Screen Capture for display, window, or app capture. A capture card is relevant for some external video inputs, but it is not a universal requirement; a webcam can also be added as a video capture source.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Record separate audio tracks when you need them
Separate audio tracks are useful when you plan to adjust or mix sources in an editor after recording. In the Audio Mixer, open the gear menu and choose Advanced Audio Properties (you can also open it from the Edit menu). Assign each audio source to the track you want. Then open Settings → Output and enable the recording tracks you intend to save.
For a recording that should play with all its audio in a standard video player without post-production, route all needed sources to track 1. Standard video players generally play only one audio track at a time, so audio placed on other tracks may not be heard in ordinary playback.

Check for duplicate audio and test the recording
If the same device is enabled globally and added again as a scene audio source, the duplicate capture can cause echo. Review the global audio devices and scene sources so that you are not unintentionally recording the same input twice.
Before relying on the setup, make a short test recording and play it back. Check that every intended visual source is visible, the layer order is right, and audio is present on the tracks you expected. A brief test helps catch configuration issues before a longer session.
