The fixes differ. For built-in labels, recreate the affected source; for the standalone app, reset its generated files and reconnect your text sources. Allow about 60 seconds for an update to appear.
First, identify which Stream Labels workflow you use
Streamlabs uses “Stream Labels” for two setups. In Streamlabs Desktop, labels are added as built-in sources; you do not need the separate app. In OBS or another streaming program, the standalone Stream Labels app generates text files that your scene reads. Follow the matching instructions below.

Fix built-in labels in Streamlabs Desktop
- Recreate the affected source. In the Sources panel, remove the label source that is not updating. Select + > Widgets > Stream Label, then choose the desired label from the drop-down.
- Confirm there is an Alert Box widget source. Streamlabs says one is required for built-in Stream Labels to work properly. You can hide the Alert Box if you do not want it visible in the scene.
- Wait for the refresh. Allow about 60 seconds for the label to update before trying the next fix.
- Log out and back in if it still fails. Log out of Streamlabs Desktop, restart the application, and sign in again. If necessary, try running it as administrator.

Reset the standalone Stream Labels app and its OBS text sources
Use this reset if the app will not launch or sign in, files are missing or stale, or OBS is reading old label files. It removes the existing generated output and app data, so be ready to set the output directory and text sources up again.
- Remove the existing text sources from OBS or your other streaming software. This prevents sources from continuing to point at files that you are about to delete.
- Delete the Stream Labels output folder containing its generated text files.
- Delete the app data folder. In Windows File Explorer’s address bar, enter
%appdata%Roamingstreamlabelsand remove that folder. - Install the latest standalone app from the Streamlabs Dashboard.
- Sign in and select an output directory. A folder under Documents is one possible location. Remember the path you choose.
- Recreate each text source in your streaming software and point it to the corresponding file in the selected output directory. In OBS, add a text source, enable Read from file, then browse to the right label file.
- Keep Stream Labels open while you rely on it to refresh those files.

When Stream Labels will not launch or sign in
The login window never appears
Streamlabs says a blocked popup may be the cause. Check your antivirus or other security software for a blocked Stream Labels popup, then allow the app where appropriate and try signing in again. Avoid turning off protection broadly; check for a specific block or create an appropriate exception.
The app opens but does not create or update files
Security software may also prevent file creation or updates. Check its alerts or quarantine history for Stream Labels, and allow the app if it has been blocked. Then verify that the chosen output directory exists and that your text sources point to files in that directory.

Common causes and checks
- You are using the wrong workflow instructions: Desktop’s built-in label source is not the same as a file-backed OBS text source. Recreate the source type that matches your setup.
- The app is closed: For standalone labels, Stream Labels must be running on the computer to keep files current.
- You have not waited long enough: Streamlabs says files update about once every 60 seconds. Wait through that interval after changing a setting or receiving an event.
- A text source points to the wrong file: In OBS, check Read from file and confirm the selected file is in the app’s current output directory.
- You edited a generated text file by hand: Stream Labels can overwrite direct edits. Change the relevant label setting or token in the app instead.
- A token does not match: Tokens are case sensitive. Check capitalization, save the setting, and allow the refresh interval for the new value to appear.
- Security software interferes: Look for a targeted block on the login popup or file access, then allow the app where appropriate.
