Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →To show recent activity on a YouTube livestream, add an Events List overlay to your OBS scene. If you want viewers to see each membership, Super Chat, or other supported event as it happens, use an Alerts overlay instead. OBS does not provide alerts itself; an overlay provider supplies the display, which you add to OBS as a Browser Source.
Choose between a recent-events list and alerts
The two overlay styles serve different purposes:
- Events List: keeps several recent events visible together, so viewers can see activity that happened moments ago.
- Alerts: displays an individual notification when a supported event occurs. An alert is a momentary notification, not a continuing history of recent events.
OBS’s stream layout tutorial describes both behaviors. Its alerts FAQ states, “OBS Studio does not directly provide stream alerts.” The provider’s overlay is rendered in OBS through a Browser Source; the OBS method does not require a plugin.
Add an overlay to OBS
- Create or choose the overlay. At your overlay provider, select an Events List widget for a persistent recent-activity display, or configure an Alerts widget for individual pop-ups. Check that the widget and provider support the YouTube event types you want to show.
- Copy the overlay URL. The provider supplies a URL for the configured overlay. Keep it private if it grants access to edit or control your overlay.
- Add it to the right OBS scene. Open the scene where the display should appear, use the Sources panel to add a Browser Source, and paste the overlay URL into its URL field.
- Set its dimensions and placement. Choose a width and height that fit the overlay design and your scene, then position and resize the source in the preview so it does not cover gameplay, captions, or other important information. OBS’s tutorial covers adding Browser Sources and setting dimensions.
- Review the composed scene. Confirm the overlay is visible where you expect it and that its text, graphics, and sound settings suit your stream. Avoid assuming an alert has fired just because the Browser Source has been added.
Set up YouTube alerts with StreamElements
StreamElements documents a YouTube-oriented setup using a YouTube theme and a Browser Source overlay. Its SE.Live Tutorial for YouTube, dated May 8, 2025, describes connecting a YouTube account and selecting a YouTube theme. The specific guide says to keep Super Chat enabled among that theme’s alert settings.
- Connect your YouTube account through the StreamElements setup flow.
- Select a YouTube theme for the overlay.
- Open the overlay editor and configure the AlertBox. StreamElements’ Elements Editor guide, dated April 30, 2024, describes configuring event-specific text, graphics, and sound, with preset and custom alert options.
- Retain Super Chat in the alert options as directed by the YouTube guide, and configure any other event types the selected theme offers.
- Copy the overlay URL and add it to the intended OBS scene as a Browser Source, then set its dimensions and placement.
The cited StreamElements documentation explains these setup paths and widget capabilities; it does not establish a complete, current comparison of every provider’s supported YouTube event types. Check the selected widget’s own settings before relying on it for a particular event.

Build a custom recent-activity display
If a preset Events List does not give you the layout or behavior you need, StreamElements’ Widget Events documentation describes event callbacks and data, including recent-event information. That can support a custom overlay, but it requires building or adapting the widget rather than simply styling a preset. Keep the display focused on the events and details you intend viewers to see, and verify that the data exposed by your chosen widget meets that need.
Troubleshoot a missing list or alert
- The overlay is absent from the scene: check that the Browser Source contains the correct overlay URL and that the source is enabled in the current scene.
- The overlay is cut off, too small, or misplaced: review the Browser Source width and height, then adjust its size and position in the OBS preview. StreamElements’ overlay troubleshooting guide, dated April 2, 2025, includes URL and resolution checks.
- An alert is silent or does not appear: check whether alerts have been muted or paused in the provider’s controls. Also confirm that the selected alert configuration includes the event type you expect.
- A recent event is not in the list: confirm that you chose an Events List rather than an Alerts-only widget, and check the widget’s event settings. The display depends on the provider and widget; the cited sources do not establish that every provider supports every YouTube event.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for a different job: keeping uploaded videos live on YouTube around the clock. It does not create an OBS recent-events overlay or go live from a camera. For the overlay method above, keep using OBS and your chosen provider.
