You can add a charity Donate button to a YouTube livestream with YouTube Giving, provided your channel and chosen nonprofit are eligible. In YouTube Studio, open Earn > Giving > Get started > Create a fundraiser, choose a nonprofit, add the fundraiser details and attach the scheduled livestream before publishing. Check eligibility first: YouTube’s stated criteria include an available country or region, at least 10,000 subscribers, YouTube Partner Program membership and a channel not designated made for kids. YouTube notes that some channels outside those criteria may still have access, so the Giving tab in Studio is the practical check. These instructions reflect official YouTube help checked on October 3, 2026; interface labels and availability can change.
Check whether your channel can use YouTube Giving
YouTube’s stated requirements for creators are:
- Your channel is based in a country or region where YouTube Giving is available.
- Your channel has at least 10,000 subscribers.
- Your channel is a YouTube Partner Program member.
- Your channel is not designated as made for kids.
Availability can vary by location and may change. YouTube says some channels that do not meet the listed criteria may nevertheless have access. Sign in to YouTube Studio and check whether Earn > Giving is available. For the current country list and eligibility details, see YouTube Giving FAQs.
Make sure the nonprofit is eligible
YouTube Giving fundraisers support eligible US-registered 501(c)(3) public charities. The charity must be requested by a creator, participate in Google for Nonprofits, opt in to online fundraising through GuideStar and comply with YouTube policies. If you cannot find a charity in the selection list, check its eligibility and use YouTube’s nonprofit request option if it is offered. A request can take up to five business days. Create a fundraiser and attach your scheduled livestream
- Open the fundraiser tool. In YouTube Studio, select Earn > Giving > Get started > Create a fundraiser. If Giving is unavailable, revisit the channel eligibility checks before proceeding.
- Choose the nonprofit. Select an eligible charity from the list. If it is missing, check its status and use the request option where available.
- Enter campaign details. Add a title and description. YouTube suggests setting a goal and duration; you can change both later. For a community fundraiser, you can also add collaborators.
- Attach the scheduled livestream. Select the livestream that should display the donation button, then choose Publish. Alternatively, while preparing the stream, use the Live Control Room’s Advanced Settings to set up the fundraiser.
- Check the start date and chat setting. The Donate button appears after the fundraiser’s start date. If you want donations through live chat, make sure live chat is enabled for the stream.

Why is the Donate button missing?
Check these conditions in order:
- The fundraiser has not started yet: The button appears only after its start date.
- The stream is not attached: Confirm that you added the correct scheduled livestream to the fundraiser.
- Live chat is off: Chat donations require live chat to be enabled.
- The video or channel is designated made for kids: YouTube lists this designation as a reason the button may not appear or may be removed.
- A mobile viewer cannot see chat: Live chat is visible on mobile in portrait orientation. Ask the viewer to rotate the device vertically.

Explain clearly how donations are handled
YouTube says 100% of donated money goes to the eligible nonprofit and YouTube pays the transaction fees. Donations are non-refundable. Network for Good distributes the funds; its guidance says nonprofits may wait up to two months, and amounts under $10 are disbursed annually. These are YouTube’s and its distribution partner’s stated handling and timing terms, not a guarantee that a particular nonprofit will receive funds on a specific date. When you explain the fundraiser to viewers, make clear that YouTube Giving processes the donations rather than you personally collecting or distributing them. For live chat donations, viewers can choose whether to make their username public alongside the donation. Mobile viewers need portrait orientation to see chat.
