Add a pet cam by bringing its video into your streaming setup as a source. In OBS, connect a webcam to the computer, add it to a scene as a Video Capture Source, then position and resize it. If the pet is away from the streaming computer, use a second device, a computer-accessible camera feed, or an RTSP-compatible network camera. Check the preview and source visibility before you go live.

Add a USB webcam in OBS
This is the simplest route when the pet’s usual spot is within reach of the computer. A webcam is optional if you already have a suitable camera device; no particular model is required by the setup steps.
- Open OBS and select the scene where you want the pet cam to appear, or create a scene for it.
- In the Sources panel, select the add button and choose Video Capture Device.
- Create a new source or select an existing one, then choose the connected webcam from the device list.
- Confirm the camera image appears in the preview. Drag the source to position it, then resize it to fit your layout. Crop the edges if needed to remove distracting background space.
- Check the scene preview at the size your audience will see. Make sure the pet is in frame and the source is visible when you want it on screen.
A wired webcam is practical only if its cable can reach the pet’s location safely and without creating a trip or chewing hazard. If the distance is too great, use a second-device or network-camera route instead.

Use a phone, tablet, or laptop as a second camera
Streamlabs’ Collab Cam tutorial describes using a second device with a camera, internet access, and a browser. Its walkthrough creates a Collab Cam source, opens the provided link on the second device, grants camera permission, selects a camera, joins, and then positions the feed in the streaming layout: Streamlabs: How to Add a Pet Cam to Your Live Stream.
- In the streaming software, add a Collab Cam source and follow its current instructions to create or copy the join link.
- Open that link on the phone, tablet, or laptop you will place near the pet.
- Allow camera access in the browser, select the intended camera if prompted, and join the session.
- Return to the streaming scene, position and size the incoming camera feed, and confirm the image updates as expected.
Streamlabs’ tutorial described Collab Cam as free for one guest or second camera when it was published on March 10, 2023. That is a dated vendor statement, not a guarantee of current pricing or terms; check the service’s current details before relying on it.

Bring in a camera app, browser feed, or RTSP camera
Camera app or online feed
If your pet camera has a computer-accessible online view, you may be able to show it as a browser source. Another possible approach is to display the camera app through an emulator on the streaming computer. These options depend on whether that particular camera’s feed can be accessed and displayed by your software; neither approach works universally.
Network camera with RTSP
An RTSP feed can work when the camera supports RTSP and the streaming computer can reach it on the network. AVer’s OBS plugin manual provides an RTSP input example and those prerequisites, but it is not a compatibility list for consumer pet cameras: AVer Pro AV support and manuals. Check the camera maker’s current documentation for the exact stream address and supported settings for your model before adding it. Do not show camera credentials in a public stream, overlay, or screenshot.

Position and control the pet cam
- Choose a stable angle: Aim the camera where your pet naturally rests or plays. A tripod or mount can help, but a stable improvised support can also work.
- Frame deliberately: Resize or crop the source so the pet is easy to see without blocking essential gameplay, text, or alerts.
- Control when it appears: OBS’s visibility control lets you hide the source. Streamlabs also demonstrates hiding the pet cam and assigning hotkeys to show or hide it, which is useful for a planned reveal or a camera that should not remain on screen.
- Consider audio: Check which microphone or camera audio is active in your scene so pet sounds do not unexpectedly replace or compete with your intended audio.
Check the platform workflow before going live
With OBS, the pet camera is one source in a composed scene. OBS Virtual Camera serves a different purpose: it shares an OBS output as a webcam input to another application that accepts a camera, rather than replacing that application’s broadcast setup. See the OBS Virtual Camera Guide.
YouTube also offers a direct webcam route. Its webcam workflow has you enter stream details, choose privacy, select the camera and microphone, and start the broadcast after live-streaming access is enabled. Preflight checklist
- Confirm the pet cam is in the intended scene and its source is visible when needed.
- Check the preview for framing, focus, and exposure.
- Confirm the camera permission and device selection are correct.
- Verify microphone and camera-audio routing.
- For an RTSP setup, confirm the camera is reachable on the network and use the model-specific address from its documentation.
- Set the stream’s privacy choice deliberately before starting the broadcast.
Troubleshooting a missing or awkward pet cam
