Uncharted: The Lost Legacy has a strong claim to the series’ top spot: it turns a familiar treasure hunt into a tighter, more character-focused adventure led by Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross. “Best” is a judgment, not a settled fact. This case rests on the leads’ chemistry, the game’s pace and exploration, and how its action serves its story—not on replacing Nathan Drake’s arc or outdoing every rival set piece.
What makes The Lost Legacy a contender?
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is a standalone Naughty Dog adventure released by Sony Interactive Entertainment on August 22, 2017. Chloe Frazer recruits mercenary Nadine Ross to find the Golden Tusk of Ganesh in India’s Western Ghats. The treasure hunt is also personal: Chloe must reckon with her past and decide what she is willing to sacrifice to shape her legacy. PlayStation’s game page lists the game for PS4 and PS5.
The argument for calling it the best begins with focus. Rather than continue Nathan Drake’s story, the game gives two established characters room to carry the adventure themselves. That shift changes the emotional center: the treasure is not just a pretext for another chase, but a pressure point for Chloe’s relationship with her past and for the uneasy partnership between the leads.
GameSpot reviewer Miguel Concepcion described its opening stretch as having an “‘Uncharted Greatest Hits’ vibe,” before it grows into a more nuanced and clever standalone entry. That arc is a useful way to understand the game’s appeal: it starts with recognizable series pleasures, then makes its own case through its characters and independent identity. How it compares with Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 4
The most useful comparison is not a verdict based on one score or one spectacular scene. It is a question of what each game prioritizes. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a high-water mark for many players who value broad spectacle; Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End gives Nathan’s story its concluding emphasis. The Lost Legacy is the more compact, character-led alternative.

Why Chloe and Nadine change the rhythm
Chloe’s resourcefulness and guardedness make her a different center of gravity from Nathan, while Nadine brings the perspective of someone who has already been an antagonist in the series. Their alliance is not built on instant trust. That friction gives conversation and cooperation a sharper edge: both women have reasons to work together, but their interests and histories do not simply align.
This pairing also makes the story less dependent on extending Nathan’s personal saga. The game can draw on familiar Uncharted ingredients without asking players to treat every danger as another chapter in his life. The result is a story about what Chloe wants her own legacy to mean, with Nadine as a partner whose presence challenges rather than merely supports her.

Why the Western Ghats matter to the adventure
PlayStation describes the setting as the south-western coast of the Indian peninsula and the former Hoysala Empire. The game moves among urban spaces, jungle, and ancient ruins, giving the treasure hunt a distinctive physical and historical frame rather than an interchangeable “lost city” backdrop. Its central object, the Golden Tusk of Ganesh, connects the expedition to the place Chloe and Nadine are navigating. The official game description identifies the setting and premise.
That setting supports the game’s exploration as well as its action. The PlayStation Store describes the game in terms of puzzle solving, platforming, and gunfights, a combination familiar to the series but placed here within a particular landscape and a two-person partnership. Where The Lost Legacy may not be your number one
If your idea of the best Uncharted is the game that most fully completes Nathan’s character arc, A Thief’s End has the stronger claim. If you value maximum blockbuster scale, Among Thieves may remain your favorite. And players who chiefly want a long continuation of Nathan’s adventures may find the standalone focus less satisfying than a new chapter starring him.
Those are not flaws the game can resolve by adding more spectacle or more Drake. They are differences in what the series is being asked to do. The Lost Legacy makes its strongest case when judged as a complete, focused adventure that lets other characters inherit the series’ pleasures without inheriting Nathan’s role.

How to play it now
PlayStation currently lists The Lost Legacy for PS4 and PS5. It is also included in Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, which bundles remastered versions of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and The Lost Legacy for PS5; PlayStation announced the collection for PC as well. Check the relevant storefront for current platform editions and availability. PlayStation Blog’s collection announcement describes the bundle and platforms. PlayStation’s game page also presents PlayStation Plus Extra access, but subscription catalogs and terms can change, so verify current access there before relying on it.
