To use RTMP-In in Streamlabs Talk Studio, open Stream Forwarding in your account settings, choose the destinations, save your stream details, then copy Talk Studio’s ingest server URL and stream key into your broadcaster’s custom-server settings. Start the broadcast from that external app. Talk Studio uses “Stream Forwarding” as its name for RTMP-In.
What RTMP-In does in Talk Studio
Stream Forwarding lets an external broadcasting application—such as OBS, Streamlabs Desktop, or Zoom—send a broadcast to destinations linked in Talk Studio. Streamlabs lists custom OBS scenes, Zoom calls, multiple camera sources, and putting more than nine participants on screen as example uses. These are Streamlabs-described use cases, not independent performance tests. LinkedIn and Twitter are listed as unsupported for Stream Forwarding. Streamlabs’ Stream Forwarding guide was dated April 25, 2025.

Sign in to Talk Studio and open your profile or account settings.

Select Stream Forwarding.

Choose the destinations that should receive the broadcast, or add a destination.

Enter the stream title and description, then save.

In your source application, open its custom streaming-server settings. In Streamlabs Desktop, the documented path is gear/settings menu > Stream > Stream Type > Custom Streaming Server.

Copy the Ingest Server URL and Stream key from Talk Studio’s Stream Forwarding page into the corresponding fields in the source app. Other apps may use different menu labels.

Start the broadcast from the source application. Talk Studio forwards that incoming signal to the destinations you selected.

Keep the URL and key direction straight
For RTMP-In, Talk Studio provides the ingest URL and stream key, and your external broadcaster uses them to send a signal into Talk Studio. Custom RTMP destination is a separate, outbound feature: when sending a Talk Studio browser stream to another platform, that destination platform provides its RTMP URL and key. Do not exchange the credentials between these two workflows. See Streamlabs’ Talk Studio Streaming Destinations guide for the outbound setup.

The choice is about your existing production workflow, not a required piece of hardware. Streamlabs names OBS, Streamlabs Desktop, and Zoom as possible sources. Use the app in which you already manage your call, scenes, participants, or cameras; its custom-server controls will need to accept the Talk Studio ingest URL and key. The documented Streamlabs Desktop path above should not be assumed to match every OBS or Zoom version. Consult the current help for your source app if its labels differ.
Connection and upload requirements
Streamlabs’ Talk Studio Getting Started page, last updated October 1, 2025, says a stable internet connection is required and prefers Ethernet. Its guidance lists the following upload speeds by resolution; these are Streamlabs’ recommendations, not guarantees for every source app, destination, or network.

The same Streamlabs page lists Google Chrome or Safari in its requirements. That browser guidance concerns Talk Studio; it does not mean the external app itself runs in either browser.
Instagram and other destination caveats
For Instagram, Streamlabs says Instagram Live RTMP settings may not be available to every account and advises checking the account’s Live settings. Its troubleshooting guidance describes using a third party to provide a dedicated server URL and key if those settings are unavailable. Streamlabs also advises choosing Portrait Mode for an Instagram custom RTMP destination. These are destination-specific considerations, not changes to the general RTMP-In procedure. The source app cannot connect: Confirm that its custom-server fields contain the Ingest Server URL and stream key from Talk Studio’s Stream Forwarding page. Check that you did not use a destination platform’s outbound RTMP details instead.

The stream starts but the intended destinations do not receive it: Return to Stream Forwarding and verify the destination selection and saved stream details.

The broadcast is unstable: Check that the connection is stable and that upload capacity meets Streamlabs’ guidance for the chosen resolution. Streamlabs prefers Ethernet over relying on a wireless connection.

Instagram RTMP details are missing: Check whether Live settings expose them for your account. Streamlabs’ Instagram guidance describes a third-party server URL and key as an alternative, and recommends Portrait Mode for an Instagram custom RTMP destination.

A destination is LinkedIn or Twitter: Streamlabs lists both as unsupported for Stream Forwarding; choose a supported destination instead.
