To use Streamlabs widgets on a YouTube live stream, configure the widget in the Streamlabs dashboard, add it to the scene through Streamlabs Desktop, the Streamlabs OBS plugin, or a browser source, then test it before broadcasting. Use Alert Box for subscriber, member, and Super Chat events; add Chat Box separately if you want viewers’ messages visible on-screen.

Choose the widget you need

Alert Box

Alert Box displays channel events during a broadcast. Streamlabs’ YouTube alert guide lists subscribers, members, and Super Chats as examples of YouTube-specific alert types. Available controls depend on the event and selected platform.

Chat Box

Chat Box places stream chat on the video output, so messages can appear in the live stream or its recording. Streamlabs’ guide dated July 9, 2026 explicitly includes YouTube support. It is a separate widget with its own appearance and behavior settings.

Configure YouTube alerts in Streamlabs

  1. Open the Streamlabs dashboard and go to Alert Box.

  2. Confirm YouTube is selected for the account or channel configuration, then choose the event type you want to set up.

    • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
    • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
    • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
    • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
    • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  3. Customize the controls offered for that event. Depending on the alert type, these can include layout, image or GIF, sound, font, animation, and duration. Use the preview as you edit.

  4. Save your changes before leaving the settings.

Streamlabs’ general alert workflow also describes shared or global settings and alert variations. These are optional; a basic alert setup does not require them. Controls vary by event, so check the selected alert’s settings rather than assuming every event has the same options.

Add Alert Box to your streaming software

Streamlabs Desktop

  1. In your scene, click the plus sign in Sources.

  2. Select Alert Box and add the source.

  3. Position and resize it in the preview so it is visible without obscuring important gameplay or other on-screen information.

OBS with the Streamlabs plugin

  1. Open Streamlabs from OBS and go to Widgets.

  2. Under Alert Box, click Add.

  3. Add the widget to each scene where you want alerts to appear; a scene that does not contain the widget will not show it.

OBS without the plugin or other compatible software

  1. Copy the Alert Box widget URL from the Streamlabs dashboard. If the dashboard provides event filtering, choose which events should appear.

  2. In your streaming software, add a Browser Source and paste in the widget URL.

  3. Resize and place the browser source in the scene. Exact menus and controls vary by software.

The native source or plugin route depends on your encoder; a browser source is the documented route for other compatible software. Do not assume every widget or third-party encoder has identical controls.

Or let it run in the cloud

Streamlabs widgets configure overlays; they do not keep a YouTube stream running after your streaming setup stops. If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping on YouTube, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.

Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos streamed to YouTube, not a camera-based broadcast. Learn about StreamNeo or start the free first day.
