Create a receiving stream in Wowza, choose the vMix input workflow when it is offered, copy that stream’s generated connection details into vMix, then start the output and verify the incoming picture in Wowza. The exact fields and available controls vary by workflow and account interface, so use the values shown for your own stream rather than a sample server address or key.
Choose the Wowza setup route
Wowza’s current quick and custom setup documentation lists vMix as a supported stream input. You can use the vMix-specific workflow when it appears, or configure vMix as a generic RTMP encoder. The specialized route may provide a connection code or other setup assistance; the generic route relies on the connection information displayed for the stream. Neither route should be assumed to have identical controls in every account. Wowza’s quick live stream setup and custom stream setup describe the current workflows.
| Route | What to expect | Important choice |
|---|---|---|
| vMix input | Choose vMix as the stream input type when the setup page offers it; Wowza provides the corresponding connection workflow. | Follow the generated instructions and use the per-stream values shown in the stream details. |
| Generic RTMP encoder | Use the stream’s server/address, stream name or key, port and any source credentials to configure the encoder. | Push/pull and autostart behavior depend on the selected setup and settings. |
Wowza’s RTMP encoder instructions are explicitly marked legacy, so treat their field and URL examples as format guidance, not as a current screen-by-screen walkthrough. The legacy RTMP encoder guide describes the connection pattern as rtmp://[stream key].[primary server]/[application], with default port 1935; it also says RTMPS on port 443 is accepted when the encoder supports it. Your own stream’s displayed values take precedence.
Create the receiving stream in Wowza Video
- Start a quick or custom live stream. In Wowza Video, open the workflow for creating a live stream. Select vMix as the input type if it is available; otherwise choose the RTMP encoder path and follow its instructions. Wowza’s fully configurable live stream guide outlines the custom workflow.
- Choose a processing region if prompted. For a custom setup with manual region selection, Wowza advises choosing a region close to where the stream originates. Some quick/custom flows enable RTMP autostart by default; with autostart enabled, region selection may be automatic and manual push/pull controls hidden. Make this choice before creating the stream because some settings, including autostart, cannot be changed afterward. The custom setup guidance explains these options.
- Match the input profile to your vMix source. Choose a resolution/profile that corresponds to the source you intend to send. Wowza notes that input resolution affects the adaptive bitrate output ladder. Avoid selecting a profile that does not match the actual vMix output.
- Decide on recording and start/stop behavior. Enable recording only if it suits the event, and decide whether autostart/autostop and the displayed push/pull behavior fit the way you will run the stream. These choices are workflow-dependent; inspect the controls shown before creation.
- Create the stream and open its details. Go to the stream’s details or Overview and locate its source connection information. The legacy documentation calls out server, port, stream name/key, and source username/password when provided. Copy the values for this specific stream, including any generated connection code or authentication details.
Enter the Wowza details in vMix
In vMix, open the streaming destination configuration for your version and map the Wowza-generated information to the corresponding server or URL, stream/key, port, and authentication fields. Choose the connection method and any destination options according to the instructions shown by your Wowza workflow. Because field names and screen layouts can differ by vMix version and Wowza route, do not reuse credentials from an example or another stream; consult the documentation for your installed vMix version if its labels do not match the values Wowza displays.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Use the server/address and port shown in Wowza for this stream.
- Copy the stream name or key exactly, without adding spaces or substituting a different stream’s value.
- Enter source username and password only when Wowza provides them and vMix has matching authentication fields.
- Keep the input resolution/profile aligned with the actual vMix source and the profile selected in Wowza.
Start the stream and verify reception
- Start the Wowza stream first if the selected workflow requires a manual start. With autostart enabled in a supported flow, the start behavior differs; follow that stream’s displayed instructions.
- Start vMix’s streaming output using the configured destination.
- Return to the Wowza stream details or preview/status view and confirm that the incoming stream is being received.
- When finished, stop the vMix output. Stop the Wowza stream as well if the selected workflow does not autostop.
Wowza’s legacy encoder guide says preview frames refresh every five seconds and that a push connection can take up to ten seconds after service startup. Those are observations documented for that legacy workflow, not timing guarantees for every current interface. See Wowza’s legacy connection and preview guidance.
Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect picture
- Wowza shows no incoming stream: Check that the Wowza stream is started when required, then verify that vMix is sending to the correct per-stream server/address, port and stream name/key. Check any source authentication values Wowza supplied.
- The connection details do not fit the vMix fields: Confirm whether you selected the specialized vMix workflow or the generic RTMP encoder path. Their setup assistance and visible fields may differ. Use the connection instructions for the route actually selected; do not force a legacy example URL into a field if Wowza gives you a different endpoint.
- The stream connects but the image or output profile is wrong: Compare the vMix source resolution/profile with the profile selected during Wowza setup. Input resolution affects Wowza’s adaptive bitrate output ladder.
- Manual region or push/pull controls are missing: In documented quick/custom flows, RTMP autostart can be enabled by default, make region selection automatic and hide push/pull controls. Check the setup route and choices made when creating the stream.
- You cannot change a setup choice after creation: Wowza documents that some settings, including autostart, cannot be changed after stream creation. Review the available configuration before creating a replacement stream.
- A preview appears delayed: The legacy encoder guide describes preview refreshes every five seconds and up to ten seconds for a push connection after service startup. Check the stream status and allow for that documented behavior before changing credentials.
Or let it run in the cloud
Wowza Video is the receiving service for this vMix workflow. If your separate goal is to keep prerecorded content looping as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a different option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It runs in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and it streams to YouTube only.
