As of October 3, 2026, LinkedIn requires scheduled events, but you can schedule one just minutes before going live. Test the preview and audio before selecting Go Live.
Check whether you can use LinkedIn Live
LinkedIn evaluates access based on eligibility criteria; meeting them does not guarantee access. LinkedIn Help’s eligibility guidance says a member or Page with more than 150 followers and/or connections may be evaluated if it is in good standing under the Professional Community Policies, is at least 30 days old, and is not based in mainland China. The guidance says there is no separate application: trigger a review by creating an event on LinkedIn or connecting through a preferred broadcast tool. If LinkedIn Live does not appear as an event format, access may not yet be available. Check LinkedIn’s current access criteria; its stated threshold can change.
Choose where the stream will appear
LinkedIn Live can be set up for a member profile, a LinkedIn Page, or an Event. A stream has one destination, so choose it before scheduling. For a Page broadcast, the person setting it up needs the appropriate Page admin role; LinkedIn’s Zoom setup instructions specify super admin or content poster. Check the organizer, event type, and format carefully: LinkedIn says these cannot be changed after the event is posted. See LinkedIn’s event creation instructions.
Schedule the LinkedIn Live event
LinkedIn discontinued spontaneous go-live on June 22, 2026. Every LinkedIn Live broadcast now needs a scheduled event, although you can schedule it only minutes ahead of the intended start. Choose a broadcast method
LinkedIn does not broadcast directly from its own interface; you need a third-party broadcast tool or an encoder sending a custom RTMP/RTMPS feed. LinkedIn names Restream, Socialive, StreamYard, and Switcher Studio as preferred partners. It also supports custom streaming with encoder software such as OBS, Elemental, or Zoom. Features vary by tool, so confirm that it supports your chosen LinkedIn destination and the functions you need. LinkedIn recommends third-party tools for newer broadcasters and custom RTMP ingest for advanced producers. Read LinkedIn’s overview and partner information.

Set up a custom RTMP/RTMPS stream
- Open your scheduled event in LinkedIn Live Studio and select Manage streams.
- Select Prepare to go live, choose the region, and select Get URL to generate the stream URL and key. LinkedIn’s instructions say this control becomes available one hour before the scheduled start for unverified profiles and Pages, and two hours before for verified Pages.
- Paste the URL and key into your encoder’s streaming destination settings. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to the event.
- Configure the encoder using the recommendations in the table below, then start the encoder and check the Live Studio preview.
- When the preview shows the correct picture and sound, select Go Live in Live Studio. The custom-stream guide says you can start up to 15 minutes before the scheduled time or up to two hours after it.

Test the feed and end the broadcast cleanly
LinkedIn’s 2026 producer guide recommends using a test event to check the connection and adjust encoder settings without broadcasting to your intended audience. In Live Studio, verify picture, sound, captions, and stream health in the preview. The preview is not the public broadcast: select Go Live only when you are ready for viewers to see the feed. To finish, select End Stream in LinkedIn, then stop the encoder. See LinkedIn’s production guidance.
Plan content and accessibility
- LinkedIn’s content guidelines advise keeping broadcasts professional, avoiding promotional streams, and not presenting prerecorded content as though it were live.
- LinkedIn advises streaming for at least 15 minutes.
- Automatically generated real-time captions are supported for livestreams created through LinkedIn API partners when the audio is in English. Availability depends on the tool. Check your tool’s caption support and confirm captions during the preview.
- LinkedIn Lives are public and recorded; the replay remains on the profile or Page feed as previously recorded live video. Do not include material you would not want publicly available as a replay.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- LinkedIn Live is missing from the event options: your profile or Page may not have access yet. Check the current eligibility requirements and trigger an evaluation by creating an event or connecting a preferred tool.
- You cannot generate a URL and key: confirm you are in the correct scheduled event and within the availability window—one hour before start for unverified profiles and Pages, or two hours for verified Pages, according to LinkedIn’s instructions.
- The encoder is streaming but Live Studio has no usable preview: verify the selected region, stream URL, key, and encoder settings. Check the preview before selecting Go Live; starting the encoder alone does not put the event live.
- The Page is not available as a destination: confirm the person setting up the stream has the required Page admin role and that the Page was selected as the event destination.
- You need to change the destination or event format: LinkedIn says the organizer, event type, and format cannot be changed after posting. Review these details before publishing the event.
- You missed the scheduled start: LinkedIn’s custom-stream guidance allows starting up to two hours after the scheduled time. If the event is outside that window, check LinkedIn’s current instructions and arrange a new event rather than assuming the old stream can start.
