Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix a Wowza SSL error by first identifying which endpoint is failing, then checking that endpoint’s certificate, keystore settings, TLS binding, and network path. Streaming Engine host ports, Manager HTTPS, the REST API, and WebRTC secure WebSockets can use separate SSL configurations, so changing one certificate setting may not fix another.
Identify the failing Wowza endpoint first
Record the exact URL, port, client or browser message, and relevant Wowza log entry before editing configuration. The error might come from a Streaming Engine host port, Manager’s HTTPS interface, the REST API, or a WebRTC secure WebSocket connection; each has its own settings.
| Endpoint | Where to check |
|---|---|
| Streaming Engine host port | The <SSLConfig> section in VHost.xml. Wowza’s SSL configuration documentation describes the host-port setup. |
| Manager HTTPS | SSL parameters in manager/conf/tomcat.properties. Restart Wowza Streaming Engine Manager after changing them. See Wowza’s Manager HTTPS instructions. |
| REST API SSL | The separate SSLConfig in Server.xml. See Wowza’s REST API SSL instructions. |
| WebRTC secure WebSocket | Confirm the browser connects to wss:// and the Wowza host port used by WebRTC has SSL configured. |
Do not assume that all secure endpoints use the same port or certificate. Wowza describes common defaults, but an installation can be configured differently. Treat an error message as a clue, not proof of its cause.
What common SSL certificate errors usually mean
- “Not Secure” or
ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID: the browser may not trust a self-signed certificate, or the presented chain may be incomplete. - “Could not load keystore”: the configured file path, password, or keystore type may not match the file Wowza is trying to open.
- WebSocket connection failure: the host port may lack an SSL binding, the certificate may not be trusted, or the page may be attempting an insecure
ws://connection. - TLS handshake failure: client and server may not share a supported protocol version or cipher.
These associations are described in Wowza’s SSL troubleshooting guidance. Confirm the likely cause against the endpoint’s configuration and logs.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Fix “Could not load keystore” errors
- Back up the relevant configuration and keystore. Make a copy before editing, and note which service component uses the setting.
- Check the configured path. Verify that the path points to the intended file and that Wowza can read it. For StreamLock, double-check that the domain entered in the keystore path is correct.
- Verify the password. Confirm that the configured keystore password matches the file; do not assume a password is correct because it worked for a different certificate or environment.
- Match the configured type to the actual file. Wowza’s VHost reference lists
JKSas the default keystore type. A filename ending in.p12or.pfxdoes not make it a JKS file. If the file is PKCS12, verify its actual format and use a configuration or conversion method supported by your installed Wowza version. - Restart the affected component and inspect its logs. The restart target depends on the configuration you changed; Manager HTTPS settings, for example, require restarting Wowza Streaming Engine Manager.
Wowza’s common SSL certificate configuration errors guide also identifies an incorrect StreamLock domain in the keystore path and an incorrect password as causes to check.
Fix browser trust and certificate identity warnings
- Compare the requested hostname with the certificate. Open the browser’s certificate details and check that the identity covers the hostname in the URL.
- Check whether the issuer is trusted by the intended clients. A self-signed certificate may be suitable for a controlled environment where clients are configured to trust it, but external clients generally need a certificate issued by an authority they trust.
- Check the full certificate chain. Confirm that required intermediate certificates are present so clients can build a trusted path to the issuer.
- Check expiry and renewal status. Wowza Support says an expired StreamLock certificate cannot be renewed; its guidance is to create a new certificate and adjust playback links that used the old one. Verify the current account and service procedures before replacing it.
Wowza documents procedures for self-signed, CA-issued, imported, and StreamLock certificates. Choose based on who must trust the certificate, domain coverage, renewal and expiration handling, keystore compatibility, and who controls issuance and private keys; no single option fits every deployment.

Check the secure port binding and network path
- Confirm the service is listening on the intended secure port. Check the SSL binding for the specific endpoint rather than assuming a certificate configured for one service also covers another.
- Check for a port conflict. Another service may already be using the configured port.
- Check firewalls and network rules. Confirm that the port is reachable from the affected client’s network. Wowza Support specifically advises checking that the port is open through the firewall.
- Keep Manager’s HTTP and HTTPS ports distinct. Wowza Support says the Manager HTTPS port must differ from its HTTP port, 8080.
- Use a secure WebSocket from an HTTPS page. For WebRTC, the browser should use
wss://; a page delivered over HTTPS cannot use an insecurews://connection in modern browser contexts.
See Wowza Support’s common SSL configuration errors for its port and firewall troubleshooting guidance.
Investigate TLS protocol or cipher negotiation failures
If the certificate loads but the connection still fails during the TLS handshake, record the protocol and cipher information and compare what the client and server support. Wowza’s SSL configuration guide describes sslLogProtocolInfo and sslLogConnectionInfo for collecting connection details.

Wowza notes that Streaming Engine versions 4.8.18 and later include Java 11 or Java 21, which provide TLS 1.3 support. Older versions may need a Java 11 runtime for TLS 1.3. Check the deployed Engine and Java versions before changing protocol filters; a version’s capability does not mean that every client, configuration, or endpoint is using that protocol.
If you need to enable a particular protocol version, follow Wowza’s TLS version configuration instructions. Limit changes to the protocols needed for client compatibility and your security requirements, then retest affected clients.

Validate the change against the original failure
- Restart the service component associated with the setting you changed.
- From the affected client, test the same hostname, port, and path that originally failed.
- Inspect the certificate presented by that exact endpoint, including its hostname identity and chain.
- Review the Wowza logs for the new connection attempt. For WebRTC, use the browser’s network tools to confirm that the secure WebSocket handshake succeeds.
A configuration change is not verified until the affected client can connect successfully and the corresponding server-side logs show the expected result.
Or let it run in the cloud
