For the simplest PS5 broadcast, use the console’s built-in Broadcast feature. For Xbox overlays and the documented multistream workflow, consider Streamlabs Console. For more control over scenes and production, use OBS Studio on a PC with console footage supplied by a capture device or a supported app/Remote Play route. The right choice depends on your console, destination, and whether you want to add a computer or hardware.

These are different kinds of tools: PS5 Broadcast is a console feature, Streamlabs Console is a browser-configured Xbox service, and OBS is PC software that needs the console’s video supplied to the computer. A capture card is one way to do that for OBS, not a universal requirement for streaming gameplay.
PS5: broadcast directly from the console
Sony’s current PS5 instructions describe linking a service such as YouTube or Twitch and starting a broadcast from the console. Available settings vary by service. See Sony’s PS5 gameplay broadcast instructions for the current on-console workflow.
- Link your streaming service to your PlayStation account. Some services may require two-factor authentication.
- Open the game you want to broadcast, press the Create button, and choose Broadcast.
- Choose the linked service and enter the broadcast information shown on screen.
- Review Broadcast Options before starting. Depending on the service, you can adjust resolution and frame rate, microphone and party audio, camera presentation, viewer-comment and activity overlays, and chat-to-speech.
- Start the broadcast and check the result from a viewer’s perspective if possible.
What PS5 shares—and what it may not
The broadcast shares game screen and audio, not every PS5 screen. Some game scenes may also be blocked from broadcast. If you include party audio, tell everyone in the party that their voices may be heard. Check the selected service’s available settings rather than assuming every option works with every destination.

Xbox: Streamlabs Console for overlays and multistreaming
Streamlabs describes Console as a web-based broadcasting studio available only to Xbox users. Its FAQ says a PC and capture card are not required. You edit scenes in a browser on a phone, tablet, or computer, then select Streamlabs as the Xbox destination. The service documents overlays, alerts, widgets, scenes, and webcam options. Its FAQ lists Chat Box, Event List, and Stream Labels among supported widgets. Read the Streamlabs Console FAQ for its published feature and subscription terms.
Know the destination limitation
Streamlabs’ Xbox multistream guide, dated October 17, 2025 and reporting a 2026 update, documents Twitch as required for its multistream flow. YouTube, TikTok, and Kick are offered as additional destinations alongside Twitch, not as standalone destinations in that workflow. The guide notes that YouTube live streaming may require account verification, which can take up to 24 hours.

Audio and price caveats
The Streamlabs FAQ says the workflow supports a headset microphone connected to the controller, but not a separate external microphone. The FAQ, dated September 5, 2025, listed $11 USD monthly or $79.99 USD annually and a seven-day trial. Treat those as the vendor’s published terms on that dated FAQ, not a guarantee of current pricing or availability.
OBS Studio: bring console gameplay into a PC
OBS Studio gives you a computer-based production workflow, but it does not make a console’s video appear in OBS by itself. OBS Project documents two routes: capture the console through a game-capture device, or capture PS Remote Play or the Xbox app in a window. The latter depends on a sufficiently fast network connection between the console and PC to maintain optimal quality. - Choose how video reaches the PC. Use a compatible capture device for a direct hardware route, or test the supported PS Remote Play/Xbox app window-capture route on your network.
- Check compatibility before buying hardware. Confirm the console, capture device, PC, operating system, resolution, and frame rate you intend to use. OBS recommends capture devices that support USB Video Class (UVC) for best OS compatibility on macOS and Linux.
- Connect and configure the video source. Follow the capture device or app’s setup instructions, then add the resulting device or window as a source in OBS and confirm that picture and game audio arrive.
- Check the complete scene and audio path. Verify that gameplay, microphone, and any intended party audio are present, and that the capture preview is usable before going live.
- Choose and configure your streaming destination in OBS. The OBS console-capture documentation explains getting console video into OBS; it does not establish current destination policies or settings. Follow the destination’s own current setup requirements.
Capture-card option: Elgato Game Capture 4K S
A capture card is optional, but can be a practical route when you want console video in a PC production setup. Corsair/Elgato introduced the Game Capture 4K S in a July 22, 2025 announcement for game streaming via PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch 2, with OBS integration. The company’s published specifications were 4K60 real-time capture, zero-latency passthrough, preview delay as low as 30 ms, capture up to 1440p120 and 1080p240, HDR10 passthrough up to 4K60, HDR10 capture up to 1080p60, and UVC compatibility with OBS and other applications. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. Its $159.99 figure was the announced 2025 launch price, not a current retail-price comparison. Check the Corsair/Elgato announcement and verify the exact current device and console compatibility before buying.
Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite
OBS’s guidance describes capture-device use with the Nintendo Switch family while docked. The Switch Lite cannot be docked and is not compatible with that capture-device route. Check the console and capture-device requirements for any alternative workflow before investing in hardware.

Choose based on the production you actually need
- Choose PS5 Broadcast if you want the direct console workflow and its available settings are enough.
- Choose Streamlabs Console if you play on Xbox and want its browser-configured overlays or widgets without attaching a PC and capture card; check destination requirements first if you plan to multistream.
- Choose OBS if you want PC-based production control and are prepared to supply console video through compatible capture hardware or an app/Remote Play route.
Before you go live: a practical checklist
- Confirm the streaming account is linked and any required verification or two-factor authentication is complete.
- Check which screens and game scenes are broadcastable on your console.
- Test microphone, game audio, camera, and party audio; notify party members if their voices are included.
- For OBS, verify the capture or app route, operating-system compatibility, and network quality before relying on it live.
- For Streamlabs Console multistreaming, confirm that Twitch is acceptable as the required base destination in its documented flow.
- Review the destination’s current rules and your rights to stream the game, music, and other audio in your broadcast.
