1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo loop a prerecorded video on YouTube Live from a Windows laptop, add the file to OBS Studio as a Media Source, enable Loop, then send OBS to a stream created in YouTube Studio. The key constraint on BSNL broadband is your connection’s stable upload speed—not its advertised download speed. Measure upload where you’ll stream, leave capacity for fluctuations and other household traffic, and test the full broadcast before relying on it.
Before you start: check YouTube access and your connection
Confirm live streaming is enabled
Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. If this is your first live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of the planned broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and activation guidance explains the requirements.
Measure BSNL upload, not just download
Run a speed test on the same BSNL connection and, as far as possible, in the place and at the time you expect to stream. Download speed is often higher than upload speed, but upload carries the video from OBS to YouTube. A speed-test result is only a snapshot; it does not establish that the connection can sustain the same rate for a long broadcast. BSNL plans, local network conditions, router setup and routes to YouTube vary, so no single speed can be assumed for every BSNL user.
Use the measured, sustained upload as a ceiling, not a target. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% bandwidth headroom for the stream, any backup stream, and other traffic. For example, a stream set to 5 Mbps needs more than 5 Mbps of stable upload capacity; a busy household connection needs additional room. YouTube’s recommendation is a planning guide, not a guarantee of stability on a particular BSNL connection. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Create the YouTube stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create or manage the live stream, then copy its stream URL and stream key for OBS. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses these details to connect your software to the stream. The exact labels can vary with Studio’s interface; use the encoder settings for the stream you intend to run. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that stream. Do not publish it, show it in a screen recording, or share it with people who do not need it.
Set up the looping video in OBS Studio
- Install and open OBS Studio on Windows, then create a scene for the broadcast.
- In the Sources box, select + and add a Media Source.
- Choose the prerecorded video file from the laptop. OBS lists MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM among its supported video formats; a file opening successfully in another player does not by itself confirm the OBS audio and playback behave as expected.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties, then apply the settings. OBS describes this option as replaying the file after playback completes. Its Media Sources documentation covers source options.
- Check that the scene shows the intended video and that its audio is present at a suitable level. Let the file reach its end during testing to confirm it restarts as intended. If you use a single file, one looping Media Source is the simplest setup.
Using several files instead
For a repeating set of videos, OBS documents a VLC Video source that can play a playlist on loop. This option requires VLC to be installed. Check the playlist order, audio and transitions in a test before using it for a scheduled stream; the single-file Media Source workflow does not require a playlist.
Configure OBS output for your BSNL upload
- Open Settings in OBS and select the Stream section. Choose YouTube or RTMPS where available, then enter the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio if OBS requests them. YouTube recommends RTMPS for a typical SDR stream.
- In OBS Output settings, use a constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval. H.264 is supported in YouTube’s general encoder guidance. YouTube’s settings and protocols are described in its live encoder settings.
- Choose a resolution and frame rate the source file, laptop and connection can sustain. For a static or slowly changing loop, a lower frame rate or resolution may be a more dependable choice than pushing the highest available setting. Match the OBS output to the video’s actual detail where practical; upscaling a smaller source does not add detail.
- Set the video bitrate based on measured stable upload and leave headroom. YouTube’s H.264 guidance lists these examples:
| Output setting | YouTube minimum bitrate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not evidence that a particular BSNL plan or connection can carry them continuously. Pick a setting whose bitrate fits the upload you actually sustain, with room left over. If the laptop struggles to encode or the connection fluctuates, reduce the bitrate, resolution or frame rate and retest rather than accepting repeated drops. A stable lower-quality stream is preferable to a higher-quality stream that repeatedly disconnects.

Test the whole broadcast before depending on it
- Start OBS and connect to the stream, then check the Live Control Room preview before making the broadcast public or relying on it.
- Test with the same video, audio, resolution, frame rate and approximate bitrate you plan to use. Include movement and sound representative of the actual loop.
- Keep the test running on the intended BSNL connection long enough to reveal variation; an idle speed test or a brief preview cannot demonstrate sustained performance.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages and OBS’s connection indicator and dropped-frame stats. Confirm picture, audio and the file’s end-to-start loop behavior.
- Only proceed with the intended broadcast after the full path—from local file through OBS and BSNL to YouTube—works acceptably.
YouTube advises checking the Live Control Room preview and stream health during testing. The YouTube streaming tips cover test-stream practices and monitoring.
Troubleshoot a loop that drops frames or will not go live
OBS reports dropped frames or a yellow/red connection indicator
This usually points to an unstable connection or insufficient upload capacity for the chosen bitrate. Lower OBS’s video bitrate, then run another sustained test. Pause other uploads and reduce competing household traffic where possible. OBS’s general troubleshooting advice suggests starting around 75% of total upload; YouTube recommends about 20% headroom. Those are different rules of thumb, not a guaranteed formula. Favor conservative headroom and judge the setting by a sustained test on the actual connection. See OBS stream connection troubleshooting.

The stream will not connect or YouTube shows no incoming feed
- Check that live streaming is activated and that the channel meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements.
- Verify that OBS is using the stream URL and key for the intended stream, with no accidental spaces or old key.
- Confirm OBS is configured for YouTube/RTMPS where available and that the stream is started in OBS.
- If the key may have been exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the new value.
The video is blank, silent or stops at the end
- Confirm the Media Source points to the intended file and that the format is supported by OBS.
- Check the source’s audio and OBS mixer levels; verify playback with headphones or speakers during a private test.
- Make sure Loop is enabled on the Media Source, then test through the file’s end. For a multi-file VLC source, check that VLC is installed and the playlist is configured to repeat.
Wi-Fi is unstable
If the laptop and router have compatible ports, an Ethernet cable can remove Wi-Fi as one possible source of local variation. It cannot increase the upload provisioned by your BSNL plan or fix ISP congestion or an outage. If the laptop lacks an Ethernet port, check adapter compatibility before buying one.
Copyright and YouTube monetization considerations
A video file playing successfully in OBS does not establish that you have the rights to stream its images, music or other included material. Use content you created or have permission to broadcast, and check the relevant rights before leaving a loop live. YouTube’s copyright rules and its monetization review are separate concerns: permission to use material does not by itself guarantee that a channel or video qualifies for monetization, and repeatedly streaming existing material does not guarantee monetization. Review YouTube’s current policies for your channel and content before broadcasting.
