To loop a prerecorded video on YouTube Live from an Indian VPS, create a live stream in YouTube Studio, copy its RTMPS address and stream key, then run FFmpeg with real-time input and looping enabled. Match the output to YouTube’s encoder guidance, and verify the preview and stream health before relying on it. The command below is an adaptable starting point—not a tested or officially endorsed command—and the right VPS depends on your file, encoding workload, and provider’s network and transfer terms.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that can use live streaming, with a stream created or scheduled in Live Control Room.
- An Indian VPS running an FFmpeg build with the required codecs and RTMPS support.
- A video file readable by the account that will run FFmpeg, with usable audio and video streams.
- Sufficient sustained upload capacity and, if you are re-encoding, enough CPU for the selected output settings.
YouTube’s encoder guidance covers stream settings, not VPS sizing. The available sources do not establish a universal CPU or memory minimum, validate a particular Indian VPS plan, or provide India-specific bandwidth guarantees. Choose a server for your actual workload and verify the provider’s sustained upload, outbound traffic allowance, and overage policy.
Create the YouTube stream and copy its RTMPS details
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream.
- Open Stream settings. Reveal and copy the RTMPS URL, then copy the stream key separately. YouTube may initially show an ordinary RTMP URL; confirm the selected URL begins with
rtmps. See YouTube’s encoder settings and stream setup guidance. - Keep the key private. It is a publishing credential: do not put it in a public screenshot, source repository, support request, or exposed shell transcript. Use the credentials for the event you intend to run.
Use YouTube’s current endpoint exactly as provided. Google’s live ingestion protocol guide describes RTMPS as RTMP carried through SSL and specifies TLS on port 443 with SNI set to the server hostname. A stale host, wrong path, wrong port, or TLS/SNI mismatch can prevent connection.
Prepare FFmpeg and the video on the VPS
- Install an FFmpeg build that includes the encoders and network protocols you plan to use. Builds differ; FFmpeg documents that protocol availability depends on configuration. Check the installed build with
ffmpeg -protocols, and inspect encoder availability withffmpeg -encoders. - Place the media file on the VPS and confirm its path and permissions. For example,
ffprobe -hide_banner "/path/to/video.mp4"can help inspect the streams; ensure the FFmpeg-running account can read the file. - Decide whether to transcode or copy the source streams. Re-encoding can increase CPU load according to codec, resolution, frame rate, and preset. Stream copy may reduce encoding work only when the source streams are compatible with the desired output and YouTube ingest; verify the actual file before relying on it.
FFmpeg’s protocol documentation explains that supported protocols depend on the build configuration. Confirm that the installed binary supports the protocols needed for your input and RTMPS output rather than assuming every package is built the same way.

Choose an output profile YouTube can receive
YouTube currently documents H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; up to 60 fps; constant bitrate encoding; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. H.264 with AAC is a straightforward compatibility-first choice for a conventional SDR stream. YouTube lists Rec. 709 for SDR and recommends stereo AAC at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz.
| Target profile | YouTube H.264 video bitrate guidance | Keyframe interval |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps | 2 seconds recommended; no more than 4 seconds |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | 2 seconds recommended; no more than 4 seconds |
These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not measured VPS performance results or server-plan requirements. YouTube recommends constant bitrate and can automatically detect resolution and frame rate; manual choices are available with a custom stream key. See the current YouTube live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Set resolution and frame rate to suit the source and intended stream rather than upscaling a smaller file without a reason.

Bitrate is the media output target. It is not the same as a VPS provider’s advertised port speed or included monthly transfer. The VPS must sustain the combined video and audio output continuously, with practical headroom for protocol overhead and network variation. Check upload capacity to the actual YouTube ingest and the provider’s transfer billing before choosing a plan.
Run an FFmpeg loop
This illustrative command targets approximately YouTube’s 720p30 H.264 video recommendation. It assumes the input is suitable for 30 fps output, includes audio, and can be scaled to 1280×720. Adjust the filter and stream mapping for your actual file.

Check the preview and operate the stream
- Start FFmpeg while the YouTube event is configured. Read its output for input detection, stream mapping, encoder, and connection errors.
- Wait for YouTube’s preview and stream-health status. Confirm that the picture and sound are present by checking a representative sample.
- Test with movement and audio representative of the intended stream. YouTube advises checking stream health and reviewing messages during the event; a running FFmpeg process alone does not prove YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.
- For a long-running loop, consider process supervision and alerting so an operator can respond to failure. Test reconnection and continuity on the selected FFmpeg build and VPS; do not assume automatic restart means seamless continuation.
Troubleshoot common connection and playback failures
| Symptom | Checks and fixes |
|---|---|
| SSL certificate error | Confirm the destination uses the exact current rtmps endpoint, that the connection uses port 443, and that the installed FFmpeg build handles RTMPS correctly. |
| Connection timeout | Recheck the endpoint, path, port, server hostname/SNI behavior, VPS outbound rules, and FFmpeg protocol support. An open outbound TCP connection by itself does not establish that YouTube ingest is configured correctly. |
| YouTube receives no picture or sound | Inspect FFmpeg’s detected input streams and output mapping, then check the YouTube preview and health messages. Confirm the file is readable and the expected audio/video streams are selected. |
| Stream health is poor or unstable | Check whether the VPS can sustain the combined output bitrate with headroom, whether the route to the ingest is stable, and whether CPU limits affect transcoding. Compare actual workload and provider transfer terms instead of relying on advertised port speed alone. |
| Loop does not behave as expected | Verify the input path, file readability, and FFmpeg output; test looping with the actual file and build. A source with unusual stream layout or incompatible codecs may require different mapping, filters, or encoding. |
How to compare Indian VPS plans for this job
No provider or plan can be ranked from the available provider-specific evidence. Compare the terms that affect continuous video delivery:
- Sustained upload: capacity to the YouTube ingest, with margin above the selected video and audio bitrate.
- Traffic policy: included outbound transfer, fair-use terms, and overage charges for continuous streaming.
- Compute: CPU headroom for the selected codec, resolution, frame rate, and preset if transcoding; observe FFmpeg load on the actual workload.
- Network access: outbound TLS/RTMPS access to port 443 and route stability from the specific Indian region.
- Storage and operations: disk for the media and logs, plus practical monitoring and restart options.
Do not infer a minimum CPU/RAM specification, Indian provider reliability, price, or upload guarantee from YouTube’s encoder recommendations. Verify those details with each provider for the region and plan you are considering.

Copyright and YouTube channel rules matter for loops
Technical acceptance by the ingest server does not establish that you have rights to rebroadcast the video, music, artwork, or other included material. Use content you own or have permission to stream, and review YouTube’s policies and any applicable rights restrictions before scheduling a long-running loop. A loop also does not guarantee monetization or policy eligibility: assess the channel and content under YouTube’s current rules rather than assuming that continuous playback itself qualifies.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube loop rather than maintaining a VPS process, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The Monthly price is $9.99 per month.
