That displays whatever text is in the file; it does not automatically detect which video is playing. For titles to change with a playlist, a plugin, script, or other integration must update the file—or provide the title to a custom Browser Source overlay.
Choose how the title will reach OBS
OBS needs two parts: a source that draws the title in the scene, and a source of current-title data. A Text source reading a file is the simplest display layer, but it only shows the file’s contents. Something else must write the current title into that file when the video changes.

Add a title label with a Text source

Open the OBS scene used for the 24/7 video. In the Sources list, add a Text source and give it a clear name, such as “Current video title.”

In the source properties, enable the option to read text from a file, then choose the text file that will contain the title. OBS Text Sources can render custom text from a file.

Place the Text source above the video source in the Sources stack. If it is underneath the video, the video can cover it.

Style and position the text where it remains legible over the footage. Check the actual scene output at the intended canvas size so the title is neither obscured nor too small to read.

Put a test title in the selected file and confirm that it appears in the scene. This verifies the display layer; it does not verify automatic title detection.
Make the title update when the video changes
Manual file updates
If the stream always plays one video, or you are willing to change the title yourself, edit the text file whenever the displayed title should change. This is not an automatic playlist solution: a person or another process must update the file.

Tuna with an OBS VLC Video Source
If OBS plays the playlist through its VLC Video Source, Tuna is a possible route for displaying current media information. OBS documents VLC playlist support and notes that VLC must be installed for the VLC Video Source type to appear. The plugin listing describes current-media information, including VLC Video Source information, but exact field behavior and compatibility can vary with the installed software versions.

Install VLC if the VLC Video Source is not available in OBS. Add the VLC Video Source to the scene and configure its playlist using the controls available in your installed OBS version.

Check Tuna’s compatibility with your OBS release and operating system before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.

Configure the plugin to show the relevant media information, then test that the title it displays is the title you expect—not a filename or a different metadata field.

Test a playlist transition and a case where title metadata is missing. Confirm the old title is replaced or cleared appropriately before using the setup on a 24/7 stream.
These checks matter because the built-in Text source does not identify arbitrary playing video or update its file by itself. The plugin route depends on the media source exposing the information the plugin needs.
Browser Source overlay
A Browser Source can render a web page or local page as an overlay. Add the Browser Source to the scene, load the page, and set a suitable width and height for the overlay. The page still needs a reliable way to receive the current title and refresh it; a Browser Source is not a universal detector for titles from unrelated media sources.

Restart OBS and check that the title source and updater still work after reopening the scene.

Test a video with missing or incomplete title metadata and decide what viewers should see instead of a stale title.

Check the actual stream output, not just the source preview, to confirm the text is visible and readable over the video.
These are practical verification steps, not reported performance or reliability measurements.
