To loop a prerecorded video on YouTube Live, send it to a YouTube encoder-based live event with software or a hardware encoder that can repeat the file. YouTube Studio supplies the event’s stream URL and stream key; the encoder handles the video playback and loop. YouTube does not provide one universal control for looping a local video file, so confirm that your chosen encoder supports repeat playback.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube requires a verified channel without live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance explains the requirements.
- A prerecorded video file and an encoder that can play it repeatedly. Software encoders are programs; hardware encoders are standalone devices. Hardware is an option for higher-production events, not a requirement for this basic workflow. Check the chosen encoder’s current documentation for its loop or repeat control.
- A reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream’s total bitrate, plus headroom.
Set up the YouTube Live event and encoder
- Enable livestreaming. If you have not streamed before, complete the channel verification and activation process early; activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, create a live stream using an encoder. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe creating the event and connecting an encoder.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. YouTube explains these settings in Manage live stream settings.
- Load the video and enable repeat playback. Select the prerecorded file as the encoder’s source and turn on its repeat, loop, or equivalent playback option. The exact label and behavior vary by encoder. Verify that playback returns to the start when the file ends; do not assume YouTube Studio repeats the file for you.
- Choose compatible encoding settings. YouTube’s general guidance recommends RTMPS, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds), and frame rates up to 60 fps. Follow the relevant resolution and bitrate recommendations in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance. Match your encoder’s output to the source and your available upload bandwidth rather than selecting settings your connection cannot sustain.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder feed and check the Live Control Room preview, including audio and moving scenes. YouTube recommends testing with representative sound and motion and checking stream health before and during the broadcast. Its live-streaming tips cover preparation and monitoring.
- Start the event and monitor it. Confirm the event is receiving the encoder feed, then go live in YouTube Studio if the event is not set to start automatically. Watch the preview and stream health for interruptions, missing audio, or poor video.
- End it deliberately. End the event in YouTube Studio and stop the encoder. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its cited guidance does not establish the same archive behavior for longer streams.
Settings and bandwidth that matter
YouTube’s general encoder recommendations are a starting point, not a substitute for checking the bitrate and resolution guidance for your chosen output. The keyframe interval should be two seconds and must not exceed four seconds; frame rates can be as high as 60 fps. Use RTMPS where your encoder supports it, H.264 video, and CBR. YouTube’s encoder settings page provides its bitrate and resolution recommendations.
Allow upload bandwidth above the stream’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% headroom beyond that total. For example, if your configured audio and video bitrates add up to a certain rate, your connection should sustain at least that total plus the recommended headroom—not merely match the video bitrate. Other devices or uploads sharing the connection can reduce what is available to the encoder. YouTube’s streaming tips include this bandwidth recommendation.
Software encoder or hardware encoder?
| Option | What it is | When it makes sense | Loop control |
|---|---|---|---|
| Software encoder | A computer program that sends the video feed to YouTube. | A practical starting point for a basic prerecorded-video stream when you already have a suitable computer. | Depends on the selected program; check its current documentation and test that it repeats the file. |
| Hardware encoder | A standalone encoding device. | An optional choice for a higher-production event or a workflow built around dedicated encoding equipment. YouTube does not require one for this task. | Depends on the device and workflow; verify that it can play and repeat your source. |
YouTube describes the distinction between software and hardware encoders in its live-streaming tips. Neither category guarantees a loop feature: that depends on the particular encoder.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Copyright and YouTube policy checks
Before streaming, make sure you have the rights needed for every part of the recording, including music, game footage, and other people’s material. A video being prerecorded or looped does not by itself establish that you may broadcast it. Review YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream rules for your channel and content before scheduling a long-running event. Also consider whether repeated material offers viewers enough value; a technical ability to loop a feed is not a guarantee of eligibility for monetization or any particular platform outcome.
Troubleshooting a looping stream
- The stream does not connect: Check that the correct stream URL and key are entered for the intended event, and that the encoder is sending to YouTube. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- The video stops at the end: The encoder may not have repeat playback enabled, or it may not support looping that source. Check the encoder’s playback controls and test a full cycle before going live.
- The preview is black or has no audio: Confirm the selected file/source, audio track, and encoder output settings. Test with representative motion and sound and inspect the Live Control Room preview before starting the public event.
- The stream buffers or loses quality: Check the encoder’s total bitrate against available upload bandwidth, including other traffic on the connection. YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom beyond the total stream bitrate.
- The stream drops during a long run: Monitor stream health and confirm that the encoder and connection remain active. If the event stops receiving video, check the encoder’s connection and restart its feed as needed; a loop setting only repeats the source while the encoder is successfully sending it.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps a prerecorded video or playlist running without leaving a computer on at home, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It keeps the stream going with your computer off, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and streams your upload as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Start your free day at StreamNeo.
