You can keep a prerecorded-video YouTube stream running without leaving a PC on by using a cloud service that uploads your videos, loops them, and sends the encoder feed to YouTube from its own servers. Create the YouTube broadcast, connect it through account authorization or the stream URL and key, arrange your playlist, then start the cloud stream. Your computer can go offline once the cloud service is sending the feed.
This method is for prerecorded videos. A live camera or interactive production still needs a live source and a suitable cloud ingest workflow.
Before you start: check channel eligibility
- Your channel must be verified, and it must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Enable it ahead of your planned launch rather than expecting an immediate start. See YouTube Help.
- Prepare videos you own or have permission to broadcast. Replaying a playlist does not exempt a channel from YouTube’s Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, copyright rules, or monetization policies.
How to set up the cloud stream
- Create or schedule the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create a stream or schedule one. Choose the title, privacy setting, and archive options in YouTube Studio so they remain under your control. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the standard workflow.
- Connect the cloud encoder to YouTube. Depending on the service, authorize your YouTube account or enter the broadcast’s server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses those connection details. Treat the stream key like a password: share it only with a provider you have selected and trust, and replace it if it is exposed.
- Upload videos and build the playlist. Check the provider’s supported file formats, upload limits, storage allowance, and playlist behavior. Arrange the videos in the intended order and confirm whether the service loops automatically or supports scheduling and playlist edits while a stream is running.
- Choose the secure ingest option when available. Google documents RTMPS as RTMP carried through an SSL connection; its guide specifies a valid YouTube RTMPS endpoint and port 443. Use RTMPS when both YouTube and your provider support it. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide.
- Start the cloud broadcast and verify it. Confirm that the provider is sending the feed, then check the preview and status in YouTube Live Control Room. Verify picture, sound, the correct playlist, and the public watch page before relying on the stream. The cloud service sends a regular encoder feed; the handoff to YouTube still matters.
- Plan for long runs and interruptions. YouTube Help states, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That does not guarantee continuity or a complete archive for a broadcast lasting longer than 12 hours. Keep source files and ask the provider how it handles disconnects, reconnects, restarts, and stream rotation.
Choose a cloud approach

Gyre describes uploading videos, creating looped playlists, scheduling streams, and running them in the cloud; its storage, stream-count, format, and plan details are provider-controlled and should be checked on its plan page. LiveGoLive describes upload-and-playlist broadcasting and connection through Google authorization or a stream key, but its page directs visitors to a waitlist, so check availability at LiveGoLive before treating it as a currently purchasable option. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API is a managed encoding infrastructure option rather than necessarily a turnkey creator workflow. Google documents charges based on active channel time and resolution, with additional charges for distribution outputs. Estimate the full always-on cost and stop resources when finished; an active channel can incur charges even when no input stream is being sent.
What to compare before choosing

Troubleshooting common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- YouTube shows no incoming video: Recheck the stream URL and key, confirm the cloud provider is actually sending the feed, and verify the selected broadcast in Live Control Room. If you exposed the key, replace it in YouTube and update the provider.
- The stream connects but has the wrong content or no audio: Check the playlist order and the selected uploaded files, then inspect the preview and audio before sharing the watch page.
- The stream stops or does not resume: Check the provider’s connection status and documented reconnect behavior. Ask whether a YouTube broadcast that has ended can be restarted automatically; do not assume reconnecting the encoder also restarts the broadcast.
- You expect one complete recording of a very long broadcast: YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours. Preserve the source videos independently and confirm the provider’s stream-rotation and archive workflow.
- The stream is blocked, claimed, or not eligible for monetization: Review the rights for every video and audio track, plus YouTube’s applicable rules. A cloud playlist does not change content rights or policy requirements.
