You can broadcast a prerecorded video as a YouTube Live feed by running an encoder on a VPS and sending its output to YouTube over RTMPS. YouTube’s Live Streaming API guide describes a 24/7 channel feed as a use case, but that is not a guarantee of uninterrupted uptime: eligibility, server and network reliability, video rights, and YouTube policy all matter.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s general live-streaming help also sets a minimum age of 16. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming help.
- A prerecorded video that you have the rights to broadcast and a VPS capable of reading it and sending a continuous feed to YouTube.
- A YouTube Live event and its stream key, plus an encoder configured to send to YouTube’s RTMPS endpoint.
Choose the VPS based on the actual workload rather than the country label alone. An India data center may be relevant to your intended audience, but its location does not by itself establish the route quality or sustained upload capacity to YouTube.
How to stream a prerecorded video from an India VPS
-
Confirm channel eligibility
Check that the channel meets YouTube’s verification, restriction, and age requirements before setting up the server. If live streaming is unavailable on the channel, configuring a VPS will not bypass that restriction.
-
Create a live event and protect its key
In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a livestream. Copy the stream URL and key into your encoder’s destination settings. Use YouTube’s RTMPS endpoint rather than assuming an ordinary RTMP URL is encrypted. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, include it in public scripts, or share it with anyone who should not control the broadcast. Reset it if it is exposed. See YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion guide.

Prepare the VPS, video, and encoder
Install an encoder on the VPS, make the source video available to it, and configure the encoder to send a continuous feed to YouTube. You can store the file on the VPS or have the encoder read it from another accessible location; storage and network requirements depend on that arrangement and the video’s bitrate. Choose a software-encoding or passthrough workflow only after checking the VPS’s available compute capacity and the encoder’s requirements.
YouTube’s documentation establishes the ingest workflow, but does not provide a provider-neutral, verified command for looping a file on any VPS. Follow the encoder’s own current instructions and test the exact looping and restart behavior on your server instead of relying on an unverified command.

Configure the ingest protocol
RTMPS is RTMP carried through a TLS/SSL connection. YouTube’s guide specifies its valid ingestion endpoint and port 443 and describes RTMPS as a good choice for most ordinary user content, especially when low latency matters. Set the endpoint, port, and stream key exactly as the encoder and YouTube event require.
YouTube also documents DASH as a separate ingestion method for encoder vendors implementing DASH delivery. Its MPD, initialization-segment, update-interval, and GOP requirements apply to that DASH implementation; they are not general RTMPS settings that every VPS user must configure. See YouTube’s ingestion protocol comparison.

Preview before relying on the feed
Start the encoder and confirm that the event receives a signal in Live Control Room. Preview picture and sound, check for clipping, silence, freezes, or unintended black frames, and verify that the event is accessible as intended. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder at least two hours before a stream and starting it at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event. Those are event-preparation recommendations, not an uptime promise for a 24/7 broadcast. Its live-streaming tips also advise testing encoder failover.
-
Keep the process observable and recoverable
Plan how you will detect an encoder exit or lost feed, restart the process, and confirm that YouTube is receiving video again. Use server monitoring and a tested recovery procedure; a single VPS and one encoder process are not an availability guarantee. If the feed is business-critical, evaluate whether the hosting and encoder setup support the recovery design you need.

Choosing a VPS for an India-based setup
No particular India VPS provider or plan can be recommended without verifying its current terms against your stream. Compare the following before committing:
- Data-center location and network route: Confirm where the server is physically hosted and assess whether its route to YouTube is suitable for your audience and ingest needs.
- Sustained outbound traffic: Ask about continuous upload allowances, fair-use limits, egress charges, and what happens if you exceed a quota. A 24/7 stream is a persistent traffic workload, not an occasional upload.
- Encoding capacity: If the server must encode the video, check the CPU capacity against the chosen encoder settings. If it can pass through an already suitable feed, the compute needs may differ.
- Storage: Check whether the VPS has enough disk space for the source files you plan to keep there, and account for any backups separately.
- Operations and recovery: Compare restart controls, monitoring, support, and backup options. Verify how you would restore the feed after a process or server failure.
- Total cost: Include the server charge, storage, sustained outbound traffic or egress, backups, and any required monitoring or support. A low headline price does not establish the cost of continuous streaming.
What 24/7 means in YouTube’s documentation
YouTube’s Live Streaming API models a broadcast as an event that can be watched on YouTube while it happens, distinct from the stream resource carrying the video. Its guide gives a channel’s 24/7 live feed as an example and says a stream can be bound to up to three broadcasts. This describes the API resource model; it does not mean a scheduled event cannot end, that every account has identical limits, or that YouTube guarantees the feed will remain uninterrupted. See the Live Streaming API guide.

Copyright, reused content, and monetization
Streaming a video and qualifying to monetize it are separate questions. You need the rights to broadcast the source, but permission alone does not establish that the channel will pass YouTube’s reused-content monetization review. YouTube says that reused content may be ineligible when the channel does not add significant original commentary, substantive modifications, or educational or entertainment value. The review applies to the channel as a whole.
YouTube’s channel monetization policy applies to live streams. In its notice dated July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced material is covered; YouTube said the clarification did not change its reused-content policy. A loop is not, by itself, a path to monetization. Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies and copyright guidance, and assess your actual rights and the original contribution in the content.
Common problems and what to check
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that the encoder is running, the correct event and stream key are selected, and the RTMPS endpoint and port match YouTube’s current instructions. Reset the key if you suspect it was copied incorrectly or exposed.
- The feed starts, then stops: Look for encoder or VPS process exits, network interruptions, server resource limits, or exhausted traffic allowances. Review logs and monitoring, then test the restart and recovery path rather than assuming the event will reconnect automatically.
- Video or audio is missing or unstable: Preview the encoder output in Live Control Room, then inspect the source file and encoder configuration. Confirm the VPS can sustain the chosen workflow and that the source remains accessible for the full run.
- The event ends or is not available as expected: Check the event’s status and channel eligibility in YouTube Studio. The API’s 24/7 example does not prevent a scheduled event from ending or override channel restrictions.
- Monetization is rejected despite having permission: Rights permission and reused-content eligibility are different reviews. Check the channel-wide policy and whether the videos add the kind of original commentary, modification, or educational or entertainment value YouTube describes.
Or let it run in the cloud
If maintaining a VPS, encoder process, and recovery setup is more work than you want, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube stream running from uploaded videos in the cloud: upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it includes 10 GB of storage per slot, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The Monthly price is $9.99 per month.
