How Much Data Does a 24-Hour YouTube Live Loop Use in India?

A 24-hour YouTube Live viewing session could use about 7.2–168 GB under Jio’s broad video estimates. Learn why the real total varies and how to estimate it.

Watching a YouTube Live stream continuously for 24 hours can use roughly 7.2 GB to 168 GB under Jio’s broad video-streaming estimates, depending on quality. Those figures are planning illustrations—not measurements of YouTube Live—and actual use depends on the average quality delivered to your device and how long you watch.

Estimated data for 24 hours of viewing

Jio publishes cross-service estimates for video streaming in India. Multiplying its hourly figures by 24 gives these approximate daily totals:

Jio quality tier Jio estimate per hour Illustrative total for 24 hours
Low Up to 0.3 GB Up to 7.2 GB
Medium 0.7 GB 16.8 GB
High 1 GB 24 GB
HD 3 GB 72 GB
Ultra HD 7 GB 168 GB

These are Jio’s broad estimates across video services, not YouTube Live measurements or a guarantee for any particular stream. Not every live stream offers every quality, and playback quality can change during a long session. Jio says Auto adjusts to data speed; YouTube says playback quality can vary with viewing conditions. Jio’s estimates and caveat; YouTube’s playback-quality guidance.

Estimate from the stream’s average bitrate

If you know the average bitrate actually delivered to the viewer, use this rough decimal-gigabyte calculation:

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Data for 24 hours ≈ average bitrate in Mbps × 10.8 GB

  • At 1 Mbps average: about 10.8 GB in 24 hours.
  • At 3 Mbps average: about 32.4 GB in 24 hours.
  • At 6 Mbps average: about 64.8 GB in 24 hours.

The calculation is bitrate × 1,000,000 bits per second × 86,400 seconds, divided by 8 bits per byte and 1,000,000,000 bytes per decimal GB. Treat it as an estimate: bitrate can vary, and a carrier’s data meter may use different accounting conventions.

Why an encoder bitrate is not necessarily the viewer’s bitrate

YouTube’s recommended encoder bitrates describe the stream sent to YouTube, not a fixed rate received by every viewer. YouTube says it transcodes live streams into multiple output formats, and the player may deliver different quality according to viewing conditions. For example, YouTube lists H.264 input recommendations of 8 Mbps for 720p30 or 720p60, 14 Mbps for 1080p30, and 17 Mbps for 1080p60; these should not be substituted directly into a viewer’s daily-data estimate. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.

Watching a stream uses data differently from broadcasting one

Watching consumes data in the download direction. Sending your own live stream consumes data in the upload direction. YouTube’s mobile filming tips give a rule of thumb of about 10 MB per minute for streaming from a phone. Multiplied across 24 hours, that is about 14.4 GB sent by the broadcaster—but it is not an estimate of what a viewer downloads. YouTube’s mobile live-streaming tips.

How to keep data use lower during a long viewing session

  1. Choose a lower playback quality or Data saver. In the YouTube player, open Settings and select video quality; available choices and controls can vary. Jio also recommends choosing a quality in the player settings. Jio’s video-streaming data instructions.
  2. Check the setting after playback starts. Auto can adjust quality as connection conditions change, so do not assume the stream will remain at one resolution throughout the day.
  3. Measure a representative session if precision matters. Note the device or carrier data counter, watch at the intended quality for a known period, then compare the counter and scale cautiously. This gives a personal estimate, not a guaranteed future total.
  4. Scale by actual viewing time. A 24-hour estimate applies only to continuous viewing; a shorter session uses proportionally less data if the average bitrate stays similar.
