If OBS audio starts in sync but gradually falls behind or gets ahead during a long YouTube lofi stream, don’t keep changing sync offsets: first determine whether the mismatch is fixed or accumulating, then identify whether it affects monitoring, the local recording, or YouTube playback. Those checks tell you which part of the audio path to investigate.
First, tell fixed delay from accumulating drift
Compare the same recognizable event near the beginning and later in the stream. For lofi, use a clear beat paired with a visible animation change; a deliberate test marker can also help. Note how long the stream has been running and when the mismatch appears.
- Fixed delay: The audio and video are separated by roughly the same amount at both points. A sync offset may address this stable relationship.
- Accumulating drift: The separation grows over time. A fixed offset cannot correct a timing relationship that keeps changing; investigate devices, sample rates, buffers, routing, and performance instead.
Do not infer a root cause from the symptom alone. It depends on your OBS version, operating system, devices, rates, and routing.
Find which output is actually out of sync
Check the same event in each place you can observe it: OBS monitoring, OBS program output, a local recording, and YouTube playback or the resulting VOD. Make a local recording during a reproduction and compare it with the platform output. A preview alone cannot show whether the recording or YouTube output has the same problem.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- If only OBS monitoring drifts, focus on the monitoring device and its routing.
- If the local recording and program output drift too, investigate sources, device timing, and OBS configuration.
- If the local recording is synchronized but YouTube playback is not, keep both examples and investigate the output or platform path before changing a local setting blindly.
A 2023 OBS forum discussion includes one participant’s report that monitor-device delay accumulated while stream and recording output behaved differently. That is evidence to check outputs separately, not a guarantee that OBS monitoring and stream output always differ: OBS forum discussion about monitoring-device sync.
Inspect the audio chain and timing settings
Inventory sources and devices
Write down every part of the chain: music playback, microphone if present, capture-device audio, virtual routing, and the physical device used for monitoring. Note whether sources pass through separate USB audio devices or a monitor with its own audio clock. Independent devices are worth investigating when timing changes, but their presence alone does not prove they caused the drift.

Check sample rates and simplify routing
Compare OBS’s audio sample-rate setting with the settings for the devices in use. YouTube’s audio recommendations for uploads mention 44.1 or 48 kHz and warn that audio and video tracks of unequal duration may not sync correctly; that guidance concerns uploaded files, not a proven live-OBS repair: YouTube recommended upload encoding settings.
Change one major variable at a time and record the result. As a controlled test, simplify virtual routing or consolidate sources through a single audio interface where practical. Whether that is useful depends on your setup; an interface is not a universal fix or a required purchase.

Review OBS logs and statistics
Check OBS statistics and logs around the time the symptom occurs. Look for signs of workload or delivery trouble, but keep network problems distinct from timing drift. OBS describes dropped frames as a connection instability or bitrate-capacity issue; dropped frames alone do not establish why audio is drifting. Use the OBS connection troubleshooting guide if the counters indicate a delivery problem.
Choose a fix that matches the evidence
The mismatch is stable
Adjust the sync offset on the relevant source, then verify the intended output. Do not copy an offset from someone else’s setup: the right value depends on the devices and path you are correcting. Confirm that the adjustment applies to the output that was actually affected.

The mismatch grows over time
Do not keep nudging the offset. Investigate sample-rate consistency, device timing, buffers, routing, and system workload. Simplify the chain for a controlled test, review OBS logs and statistics, and change one significant setting or device at a time. An OBS forum participant has suggested mismatched audio refresh rates or an underpowered computer as possibilities when timing varies; this is community troubleshooting advice, not an official diagnosis for every setup: the forum discussion.
Only monitoring drifts
Treat the monitoring path as a separate subsystem. Test another monitoring device or routing path and compare it with a local recording and YouTube output. Buffering and device-clock behavior are hypotheses raised in the reported forum case, not confirmed causes for other systems.

Only YouTube playback appears wrong
Preserve the local recording and the YouTube example, including when each was made. Compare corresponding events and investigate the platform/output path before altering OBS settings that already produce a synchronized local recording. YouTube’s upload-encoding page is not a live-stream diagnosis.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Verify the repair under the same long-session conditions
- Recreate the original setup and duration that exposed the issue, including the same sources, routing, and monitoring device.
- Record a local copy while streaming and note when the problem would normally begin.
- Compare a recognizable early event with a later one in both the local recording and YouTube playback or VOD.
- If you changed a device or driver, restart OBS and repeat the comparison.
A change is not verified just because the OBS preview looks right. Check the affected output after a reproduction of the conditions that caused the drift.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a 24/7 YouTube lofi stream rather than keeping a local OBS audio chain running, StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is for uploaded video, not a live camera feed.
