How to Stream Prerecorded Videos to YouTube 24/7 from an Android Phone in India

A phone can stream a prerecorded video to YouTube Live only with an encoder app that supports local-file looping. Here’s how to set it up, test it and plan for a 24/7 broadcast.

You can use an Android phone to send a prerecorded video to YouTube Live only if your encoder app supports playing and looping local files and can keep running reliably. YouTube’s regular mobile-live workflow is for mobile broadcasts; its documentation does not describe selecting a saved video and looping it. The phone-based method is therefore a third-party encoder setup that you must test on your own device. For a stream that should continue without a phone running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative that loops uploaded videos on YouTube.

What you need to know before choosing a method

YouTube documents two relevant paths: mobile live streaming through the YouTube app, and encoder streaming using a stream URL and key. The mobile instructions do not establish that the YouTube app can play a saved gallery video on repeat. For a phone-only attempt, use an Android encoder app only when its current help or listing confirms all of the following:

  • It can play a local video file and repeat it continuously.
  • It can send an RTMP or RTMPS stream to YouTube.
  • It can keep playing and streaming with the screen and power settings you intend to use.
  • It can reconnect after a network interruption, or clearly tells you when manual recovery is needed.

YouTube’s encoder documentation names Larix Broadcaster as a mobile encoder option, but that mention confirms encoder availability, not local-file looping or unattended 24/7 operation. Verify those features in the app before relying on it.

Check YouTube eligibility for the phone route

YouTube’s current mobile-live Help page lists these requirements: the channel must be verified, have no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, have live streaming enabled, and the Android device must run Android 8.0 or later. The mobile route also requires at least 50 subscribers. First-time live activation may take up to 24 hours. YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance says streamers must be at least 16. These are YouTube platform requirements, not a guarantee that a third-party app will work on a particular handset.

Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

Below 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit the audience for mobile live streams and may set mobile-live archives to private by default. This applies to the platform’s mobile-live route; check the visibility and audience settings shown for your event.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Set up a prerecorded video stream from Android

1. Choose and test an encoder app

Before committing to a long broadcast, confirm in the app’s current documentation that it supports local-file playback, looping and RTMP(S) output. Check whether it stays active with the screen off, whether Android battery restrictions can stop it, and how it behaves after losing network access. YouTube does not certify these phone-specific functions through its general encoder instructions.

2. Create the event and get its stream details

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key provided for that event.
  3. In the encoder app, enter the URL and key in its server or stream settings, then select the local video and enable repeat or loop if the app provides that option.

The exact labels differ between encoder apps. YouTube’s workflow and setup details are in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

3. Protect the stream key

Treat the stream key like a credential: do not show it in screenshots or give it to an untrusted app or person. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming again. See Manage live stream settings.

4. Prefer YouTube’s secure ingest when available

Choose RTMPS if the encoder supports it. Google describes RTMPS as RTMP tunneled through SSL/TLS; its technical guidance specifies a valid YouTube ingest URL, port 443 and correct TLS hostname/SNI handling. Most users should enter the URL supplied by YouTube rather than construct a low-level connection manually. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide.

5. Preview before going live

  1. Start the encoder and wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room.
  2. Check the picture, framing, sound, audio sync and stream health.
  3. Confirm the title, visibility and audience settings, then follow the scheduled-stream prompts in Live Control Room to start the event.
  4. Watch the stream long enough to confirm the video reaches its end and returns to the beginning without a gap or app error.

YouTube advises testing beforehand, previewing the feed and monitoring stream health. Its guidance is at Streaming tips.

Choose settings and test the phone’s connection

Use YouTube’s recommendations as a starting point, then test sustained upload from the exact location, carrier and handset you plan to use. YouTube’s H.264 recommendations include 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps and 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. These are platform recommendations, not measurements of Indian mobile networks or a guarantee that a connection will hold that bitrate continuously. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.

  • Test playback, looping and audio sync on the target phone before scheduling a long event.
  • Test with the intended screen-off, charging and battery-optimization settings. Android may restrict background activity, and behavior varies by device and app.
  • Check that the phone does not overheat or stop the encoder during an extended test.
  • Briefly interrupt the network during a test, if practical, and observe whether the app reconnects or requires you to intervene.

Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive warning

A continuous public broadcast and a complete 24-hour video archive are not the same thing. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If retaining a complete archive matters, end and restart the broadcast before it exceeds 12 hours and keep a local recording backup where feasible. Ending below that threshold is not a guarantee of an intact archive. Read Archive live streams.

Clear rights before looping a video

Use material you created or have rights to broadcast. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; it may replace the live feed with a placeholder, interrupt the stream or terminate it. If you have permission to use third-party material, ask the rights owner to add your channel to the Content ID allowlist. YouTube says licensed content can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted. Details: Copyright issues with live streams.

Troubleshoot common phone-stream problems

  • The encoder connects, but no video loops. The app may support camera encoding without local-file repeat. Confirm local playback and loop support in its current documentation; YouTube’s encoder setup does not add those features.
  • The stream stops when the screen turns off. The app or Android power management may suspend background work. Test the intended screen and battery settings on the specific phone and consult the app’s instructions; do not assume continuous operation.
  • YouTube does not show an incoming preview. Check that the event is ready, the encoder has the correct stream URL and key, and the phone has a working upload connection. If the key may be wrong or exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and enter the new one.
  • The preview buffers or stream health is poor. Test from the broadcast location and lower the bitrate or resolution to a level the connection can sustain. The YouTube bitrate recommendations are starting points, not a remedy for unstable upload.
  • The stream dies after a short network outage. Automatic reconnect is app-specific. Verify its reconnect behavior in a controlled test and plan how you will notice and restore a failed broadcast.
  • The stream is interrupted for copyright. Stop using material without the required rights. For licensed third-party content, request Content ID allowlisting from the rights owner.
  • The live event has no complete replay. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. For an archive, plan shorter sessions and a local backup rather than relying on one uninterrupted day-long broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once and go live. The cloud loops the video, so no computer or home internet connection has to stay on. It supports uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
