Check OBS for network-dropped frames and YouTube Live Control Room for stream-health warnings, then set bitrate to fit your measured, sustained upload speed with headroom. There is no special India-only bitrate: the right setting depends on the connection actually carrying the stream.
Why is my YouTube live stream buffering?
“Buffering” can describe different symptoms: a viewer’s video pauses, the stream has a long delay, or the broadcast disconnects. Those symptoms do not all point to the same cause.
Check whether the sender or viewer is affected
- OBS reports network-dropped frames: the connection to YouTube’s ingest server may be unstable or unable to keep up with the selected bitrate. OBS explains this indicator in its Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide.
- OBS shows no network drops, but some viewers buffer: their devices, local networks, or routes to YouTube may differ from yours. A healthy local preview does not prove that every viewer has a healthy connection.
- Several viewers on one shared network report pauses: investigate that network as well as the stream.
- Many viewers on different connections report the same issue: check encoder errors, CPU load, OBS statistics, YouTube’s stream-health status, and a local recording if available.
YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends comparing the scope of viewer reports and checking the encoder and local output. If the local picture or sound is bad, inspect the recording and encoder load; if the local output is healthy, test the outbound connection before drawing conclusions about the ISP or platform.
What bitrate should I use for YouTube Live in India?
Choose a bitrate that both meets YouTube’s guidance for your chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate and fits your connection’s reliable upload capacity. YouTube’s encoder settings page, accessed 2026-10-03, gives these H.264 targets:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Resolution and frame rate | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s platform recommendations, not a guarantee that an Indian ISP, city, Wi-Fi network, or route to YouTube will sustain the rate. The same YouTube table lists separate AV1 and H.265/HEVC recommendations: 10 Mbps for 1080p30, 12 Mbps for 1080p60, and 6 Mbps for either 720p30 or 720p60. Use the figure for your actual codec rather than applying H.264 values to every encoder. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance.
Measure upload, not advertised download speed
The encoder sends video to YouTube, so upload capacity matters. YouTube advises testing upload speed and says the total stream bitrate should not exceed available upload bandwidth; it recommends leaving 20% room. Other devices and traffic on a shared connection can reduce the capacity available to the stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Test the same connection the encoder uses, under conditions similar to the time your loop usually has trouble. A single short speed test cannot establish that upload will remain stable all day. OBS offers a separate starting heuristic of setting bitrate at about 75% of total upload speed in its connection troubleshooting guide; that is OBS advice, not a YouTube requirement or a guarantee.
Reduce settings if upload is variable
If measured upload cannot reliably support the chosen bitrate plus headroom, reduce bitrate, resolution, or frame rate until the stream fits. OBS documents dynamic bitrate adjustment as a fallback in supported versions; it can lower video quality when the connection cannot keep up, but it does not repair the underlying connection. Availability and interface labels depend on the OBS version.

Which encoder settings matter?
Use YouTube’s current table for your codec and output format. YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 encoding, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds). Check the current encoder guidance for the selected format.
Before a long-running loop, test with representative audio and motion. A mostly static loop can be less demanding to encode than fast-moving footage, but it does not make an unstable upload path reliable. Review OBS dropped-frame statistics, CPU load, YouTube stream-health messages, and a local recording together where one is available.

Should I use normal, low, or ultra-low latency?
For a loop that does not depend on near-real-time audience interaction, start with normal latency. YouTube warns that “Lower latency may mean more playback buffering.” Low or ultra-low latency is mainly useful when viewers need to interact with the stream promptly, and leaves the player less time to build a read-ahead buffer. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance says 4K streams use normal latency.
YouTube describes typical latency as under 10 seconds for most viewers on low-latency streams and under five seconds for most viewers on ultra-low-latency streams. Those are typical figures, not guarantees or thresholds that diagnose buffering.

How do I rule out Wi-Fi, equipment, and ISP problems?
- Compare wired and wireless operation. If OBS reports dropped frames over Wi-Fi, test the encoder over Ethernet if possible. OBS cautions that “WiFi may be unstable for streaming.” A cable can help isolate the local wireless link; it cannot add ISP upload capacity or fix congestion elsewhere on the route.
- Check the network path. Inspect cables and network devices, and restart the modem or router as a diagnostic if appropriate. OBS lists VPNs, security software, network-prioritization utilities, outdated network drivers, router or modem connectivity, and ISP-route congestion among possible causes.
- Change software cautiously. If you suspect a VPN or security/network utility, test whether it affects the connection without leaving protection disabled. Restore OBS network settings to default if earlier changes did not help. Only add an application exception if evidence identifies the software as the cause.
- Contact the ISP with observations. If the problem persists, provide timestamps, the connection type, bitrate and output settings, OBS dropped-frame figures, YouTube health messages, and whether reports came from one viewer, one shared network, or separate connections. This is more useful than assuming a particular Indian provider or city is at fault.
OBS’s additional Stream Buffering Troubleshooting guide covers connection and buffering checks. The official guidance does not establish a universal India-specific ISP fault, city ranking, or mobile-data-versus-broadband adjustment.
How should I test a recurring loop stream?
- Run a test broadcast with representative audio and motion before relying on the loop.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room stream health and OBS network-dropped frames while it runs.
- Check the watch page and playback on a mobile device; compare viewer complaints with your local preview and recording where available.
- Repeat tests during the time window when buffering usually occurs.
- Keep a concise log of timestamps, connection type, bitrate, resolution, frame rate, dropped-frame figures, health warnings, and the scope of viewer reports.
YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing before going live, checking the watch page and mobile playback, monitoring audio and video, and verifying local archive integrity when you use an archive.
