Those are separate workflows: copying files to a VPS does not upload them to YouTube or start a live broadcast.
The best transfer method depends on where the files are now, your computer and VPS operating systems, and whether the connection can resume interrupted transfers. There is no verified India-to-VPS speed or universal command that fits every setup, so measure the actual transfer rather than relying on a promised duration.
Choose the YouTube workflow before transferring
Publish finished videos individually
If viewers should find each recording as a normal YouTube video, upload each file through YouTube Studio or an application using the YouTube Data API. The VPS is optional: you can upload from your computer directly, or use the VPS as an intermediate destination if that better suits your workflow.
Broadcast prerecorded videos as YouTube Live
If the goal is a scheduled or continuous live broadcast of existing videos, run a compatible encoder on the VPS. The files are inputs to the encoder; the encoder sends a live stream to YouTube. YouTube explains that an encoder converts video into a digital format it can receive and lists OBS among software encoder options: YouTube encoder setup. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so check channel readiness before the planned broadcast.

Plan the transfer from India to the VPS
Check the source, destination and limits
- Identify where the folder currently lives: a local computer, external storage, or a cloud service such as Google Drive.
- Check that the VPS has enough free disk space for the files and any temporary copies. Ask its provider about storage, server region, sustained outbound transfer allowance, and whether your intended encoder workload is permitted.
- Count the files as well as measuring total size. Many small files can take longer to enumerate and transfer than a few large files, and some services apply request limits.
- Choose a secure transfer method supported by your operating systems and VPS access. The appropriate command varies with those details; no single India-to-VPS command or route speed is established for every reader.
- Prefer a method that can resume interrupted transfers for a large folder. Afterward, compare file counts and sizes, and, where available, checksums, before deleting the source or starting a long broadcast.
A transfer estimate is meaningful only when it uses the sustained throughput actually observed on that leg. Estimate the source-to-VPS copy and VPS-to-YouTube upload separately; they use different network paths. File size, route, ISP, server region and current congestion affect results, and no India-specific rate is established here.
When the source is Google Drive
rclone supports Google Drive and can copy directories between supported endpoints. Its Drive backend documentation notes a rate limitation of about two files per second for many-file operations; this is a documented limitation, not a guaranteed transfer speed for every account. See rclone’s Google Drive documentation. The same page says its shared client ID is being retired during 2026 and directs users to create their own, so check the current setup instructions if configuring rclone now. Copying a folder from Drive to a VPS only stages the files; it does not publish them to YouTube.

Transfer the folder and verify it
Use a resumable, secure transfer path
- Confirm access. Make sure you can connect to the VPS using the secure transfer mechanism supported by your provider and operating systems. Do not expose passwords or private keys in a public script or share them with anyone.
- Check capacity. Confirm available VPS disk space is greater than the folder’s contents, allowing room for temporary files or processing if needed.
- Copy the folder. Use a secure file-transfer client or a supported synchronization tool configured for your source and destination. Enable continuation or retry behavior where available. The exact command depends on your OS, access method and tool; check that tool’s current documentation rather than adapting an unsafe command blindly.
- Verify completion. Compare the expected and received file counts and sizes. For important libraries, compare checksums as well. Investigate missing or partial files and resume the copy before proceeding.
- Keep the source until the destination is confirmed. A successful-looking transfer process is not a substitute for checking the received files.
If you want individual YouTube video uploads
Browser upload
In YouTube Studio, use the video upload flow and select a file that has reached the machine doing the upload. If a browser upload is stopped, YouTube says to return to the upload page and choose the same file; there is up to 24 hours to continue where it left off. YouTube also says upload times vary with file size, bandwidth, upload traffic, format and quality, and that higher-quality files such as 4K take longer than 1080p: Upload videos to YouTube. If an upload is merely slow, let it finish rather than repeatedly restarting it.
Resumable API upload for applications
For an application workflow, YouTube’s Data API documents a resumable upload protocol and says: “You can upload videos more reliably by using the resumable upload protocol for Google APIs.” The client initiates an upload session, saves the returned session URI, and sends the file bytes. If interrupted, it queries the session status; a 308 Resume Incomplete response and Range header indicate bytes received. Resume at the next byte so no bytes are skipped or sent twice. The session URI is not permanent, so resume within its lifetime. Details: YouTube Data API resumable uploads.

If you want a YouTube Live stream from the files
Prepare the channel and encoder
- Enable live streaming in advance. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. Confirm the channel is eligible and ready before the planned start time.
- Configure a YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the stream and copy its stream key into the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send video to your stream. Keep it private and reset it if exposed.
- Run the encoder on the VPS. Select the video files as inputs and configure the encoder to send the live output to YouTube. Test playback, audio, and the connection before relying on a long broadcast. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the platform workflow but does not endorse a VPS provider or establish that a particular VPS plan has sufficient capacity.
- Check rights and channel policies. Use recordings you own or are licensed to broadcast. A live encoder does not grant rights to music, game footage, or other material in the files; check YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies for your use case.
For a continuous prerecorded playlist, verify that the encoder can advance through the files as intended and recover from a missing, corrupt, or incompatible file. Keep the source library and playlist order documented so a failed input can be diagnosed without disrupting the rest of the schedule.
Choose a transfer route by its trade-offs

Troubleshoot common failures
Transfer stops partway through
Likely causes include a dropped connection, timeout, or an interrupted session. Use the transfer tool’s resume or retry feature and verify which files completed before repeating the copy. For API-based YouTube uploads, query the resumable session and continue from the byte range reported by YouTube.

Many small files take unexpectedly long
File-by-file overhead and service limits can dominate. If copying from Google Drive with rclone, account for the documented limitation of about two files per second under its Drive rate-limit behavior. Check whether the tool reports throttling and avoid assuming the total folder size alone predicts duration.
Files arrive but the broadcast does not start
Confirm the channel’s live-stream enablement is complete, the encoder is running, the correct stream key is configured, and the files are readable by the encoder. Check the VPS network and provider policies as well; a successful inbound folder transfer does not prove adequate outbound streaming capacity.

The YouTube upload is slow
YouTube identifies file size, bandwidth, upload traffic, format and quality as factors. Check the sustained upstream rate on the machine sending the file and allow a slow upload to complete when it is still progressing. Do not infer the VPS-to-YouTube rate from the India-to-VPS copy speed.
