Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You can run a continuous YouTube Live broadcast from a DigitalOcean Droplet in Bangalore, but the Droplet is only the server: you still need to provide or produce video and audio, encode them as needed, and send the stream to YouTube. For a self-managed setup, choose the Bangalore region (BLR1), configure an encoder or relay, use YouTube’s RTMPS ingest details, and arrange monitoring and recovery. The right Droplet depends on whether it must encode video or simply forward an already encoded feed.
What the Droplet does—and what it does not do
A Droplet is a Linux-based virtual machine. It does not supply a camera, microphone, game capture, or video by itself. Your broadcast must come from one of three kinds of input:
- Prerecorded video: media stored on the server is played in a loop or scheduled playlist and sent to YouTube as a live broadcast.
- Live production feed: a separate computer or capture setup produces the video and audio, then sends that feed to the Droplet for processing or onward transmission.
- Relay: an already encoded feed is forwarded to YouTube, ideally without decoding and re-encoding if its format and settings are compatible.
Encoding or transcoding—decoding a source and producing a new output—uses more CPU than forwarding a compatible encoded feed. Scaling, compositing, resolution, frame rate, codec, and simultaneous outputs also change the workload. Decide which workflow you need before choosing a server size.
Prepare the YouTube channel and stream
Check that livestreaming is enabled
YouTube’s current live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Enabling livestreaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do this before the intended start time.

Create or select a stream in Live Control Room
In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live stream and copy its server URL and stream key into your encoder configuration. Use the values YouTube provides for that stream; do not substitute a guessed ingest address or reuse a key that has been exposed.
Treat the stream key like a password. Keep it out of public scripts, source repositories, screenshots, and logs. Restrict who can access the server configuration, and reset the key if it becomes public or is otherwise compromised.
Create a Droplet in Bangalore
Select BLR1 and confirm the plan is available
DigitalOcean calls its Bangalore datacenter BLR1. Select Bangalore/BLR1 in the region selector when creating the Droplet, then confirm that the plan you want is actually offered there. Availability can vary by plan.
Size for the actual media workload
DigitalOcean identifies CPU-Optimized Droplets as suitable for CPU-bound work such as live streaming and describes them as providing dedicated CPU access. That does not establish a universal minimum size for a 24/7 YouTube stream. A relay that forwards a compatible feed has different CPU needs from a server that decodes, transcodes, scales, or composites video.

Choose a configuration based on the input, output resolution and frame rate, codec, number of outputs, memory use, storage needs, and expected network transfer. Start with a workload-matched plan, then monitor sustained CPU and memory use under the real broadcast load. Resize if measurements show that the server lacks headroom. Shared CPU plans can vary with host load, unlike the dedicated CPU access described for CPU-Optimized Droplets.
Set up the input and encoder
For prerecorded video
Store the media on the server and configure a player or encoder to loop it or move through a playlist. Plan how you will replace or add files without accidentally ending the broadcast, and test transitions before relying on a playlist unattended. Confirm that you have the rights to broadcast both the footage and its audio.
For a live source
Set up a stable feed from the production computer or capture system to the Droplet. The server can encode or relay that feed, but cannot create camera or microphone content on its own. Account for how the feed reaches the server and what happens if that connection fails.
For a relay
If the incoming feed already matches YouTube’s intended output format, avoid unnecessary transcoding where possible to reduce CPU demand. Verify compatibility and monitor the resulting stream; do not assume every input can be passed through unchanged.

YouTube’s encoder directory includes third-party choices, including Gyre, which YouTube describes as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streams of prerecorded videos. That is a separate managed-service category to compare with operating your own Droplet, not proof that it suits every workflow.
Configure YouTube’s ingest connection
YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure version of RTMP. Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API documentation specifies a valid RTMPS endpoint and application path, using port 443. Copy the server URL from Live Control Room into the encoder exactly as provided and configure the stream key in the encoder’s protected settings. Do not publish the key in a command example, public configuration file, or support request.
Choose video and audio settings
Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance as the source of truth because supported settings can change. Its guidance supports constant-bitrate encoding, H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. The correct combination depends on your encoder and source; not every combination is appropriate for every workflow.
| Setting | YouTube guidance or practical choice |
|---|---|
| Rate control | Constant bitrate (CBR) is the guidance to follow. |
| Video codec | H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 are listed in YouTube’s encoder guidance. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 are listed in YouTube’s encoder guidance. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds. |
| Video bitrate example | For 720p at 30 fps, YouTube’s recommended video bitrate range is 2–6 Mbps. |
The bitrate table varies by resolution and frame rate. Pick an output the server and its outbound network can sustain continuously rather than treating the upper end of a recommendation as a default. Test with audio and motion similar to the real broadcast: a static title card can conceal problems that appear during gameplay or other moving footage.

Test before leaving the stream unattended
- Run a test broadcast. Use the planned resolution, frame rate, bitrate, codecs, and input source.
- Check YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream health. Confirm that video and audio arrive as expected and watch for warnings or interruptions.
- Check the audience-facing stream. Confirm that the event is accessible from the channel or watch page and check playback on a mobile device, as YouTube’s live-streaming tips advise.
- Test the failure paths. Confirm what happens after an encoder restart, server reboot, input loss, or YouTube-side disconnect, and make sure the operator can tell whether the public stream has recovered.
Make recovery and monitoring part of the design
A continuously running setup needs a supervisor or service manager configured to launch the encoder after a reboot and restart it after a crash. It also needs monitoring and an alert path so an operator learns when the stream is unhealthy. Configure and validate those pieces for the selected Linux distribution, encoder, credential-storage method, and reconnect behavior; restart behavior cannot be assumed from the fact that a video loops.
Decide who receives alerts and how they will confirm audio, video, and the public watch page are healthy. Plan a controlled response for media-file changes, key rotation, Droplet maintenance, loss of the source feed, and YouTube interruptions. A process restart alone does not prove that YouTube is receiving a healthy picture and sound.

Estimate continuous outbound transfer
For a direct YouTube ingest workflow, the Droplet sends the encoder feed to YouTube; it is not serving each YouTube viewer’s playback. A rough decimal estimate for one continuous stream is:
Transfer per day in GB ≈ bitrate in Mbps × 10.8.

For example, a 2 Mbps stream is about 21.6 GB per day, and a 6 Mbps stream is about 64.8 GB per day, before protocol overhead and other traffic. These are arithmetic estimates based on a constant bitrate, not a provider allowance or measured result. Add overhead when planning and check the current included outbound transfer and price for the exact BLR1 configuration.
Understand the network ceiling
DigitalOcean’s Droplet limits documentation, last verified 19 August 2026, lists maximum network throughput of 2 Gbps for non-GPU Droplets without Premium CPUs and up to 10 Gbps for Premium CPU Droplets. These are maximums, not a promise that a particular plan or workload will achieve them. Throughput ceilings are also different from included outbound data transfer.
Do not rely on a 24-hour event becoming one automatic archive
YouTube’s encoder help guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous event that exceeds 12 hours therefore needs a separate recording or segmentation plan if you need complete archives. Decide where recordings will be stored and how you will verify that each segment is complete.
Rights and channel policy are operational requirements
Before looping prerecorded footage or broadcasting a live feed, confirm you have the rights to the video and audio. A technically successful stream does not establish permission to use its content or guarantee monetization. Review YouTube’s current live-streaming and channel policies for your content and account, especially before leaving a stream running unattended.

Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely area to check | Response |
|---|---|---|
| Livestreaming is not available in the account | Channel verification, restrictions, or first-time enablement still processing. | Check the channel’s eligibility in YouTube Studio/Live Control Room; allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement. |
| YouTube does not receive the stream | Copied server URL, stream key, RTMPS endpoint/application path, or connection on port 443. | Compare the encoder configuration with the values shown in Live Control Room. Reset a key if it may have been exposed. |
| Stream health is poor or unstable | Bitrate too high for the outbound connection, encoder load, or an unstable source feed. | Check encoder logs, server resource use, and Live Control Room health; test a lower sustainable output and verify the input. |
| Encoder stops after a crash or reboot | No configured supervisor, or restart/reconnect behavior is not working as expected. | Validate the service manager’s launch and recovery behavior on the chosen OS and test a reboot and an intentional encoder restart. |
| Video works but audio is missing or incorrect | Source audio routing, selected audio codec, or encoder configuration. | Test with representative audio and inspect both the encoder output and YouTube preview before unattended operation. |
| A long event has no complete archive | The event exceeded YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic archive guidance. | Use a separate recording or segmentation plan and verify each saved segment. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded video looping on YouTube rather than operate a Linux encoder yourself, StreamNeo is an alternative: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded video from its cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams to YouTube and does not go live from a camera.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. The uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode and no quality tiers; there is one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. You can choose a day, week, month, six months, or year and cancel any time; contact support for five or more slots.
The Monthly price is $9.99 per month. For a prerecorded YouTube stream without a server to supervise, start your free first day with StreamNeo.
