You can schedule a YouTube live event for a holiday, but YouTube Studio does not schedule a regular video playlist as the live broadcast itself. Schedule the event in Live Control Room, then use an encoder or playout system to send the live feed. If you want prerecorded videos to play one after another, that feed setup is essential.
What YouTube schedules—and what it does not
A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos; a scheduled livestream is an event with its own watch page and a separate incoming stream feed. YouTube’s playlist instructions cover creating and managing collections, while its livestream instructions describe scheduling a broadcast and connecting an encoder. They do not document a normal playlist being used as the live feed. See YouTube’s playlist guide and encoder livestream guide.
That distinction determines your setup:
- Live host or presentation: schedule the event and send a live camera, screen, or other encoder feed.
- Prerecorded videos in sequence: schedule the event, then use an encoder or playout system that can play the files in order and send their output to YouTube Live.
Scheduling an uploaded video to become public later is a different feature. It publishes a video at a chosen date, time, and time zone; it does not create a livestream. See YouTube’s scheduled video publishing instructions.
Schedule the YouTube live event
- Open YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, open Manage and select SCHEDULE STREAM. Choose an existing stream’s settings to reuse them, or create a new stream.
- Enter the event details, including its title, description, visibility, date, and start time. Check the selected time zone and the time your intended audience will see.
- Save the scheduled event and copy its watch-page URL. This is the link to share with viewers; scheduling the event alone does not send video to it.
- In your encoder or playout system, enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key associated with the event. Keep the key private. Start or schedule the feed in that system, then verify that YouTube receives it and that the event behaves as intended.
The exact encoder controls vary by software or hardware. Follow its current instructions, and confirm that its output is suitable for the planned YouTube event before relying on unattended playback.

Play prerecorded videos as a livestream
For a holiday playlist-style broadcast, prepare the sequence in your playout system rather than assuming YouTube will take videos from a channel playlist and broadcast them automatically. Test the whole chain—file order, transitions, audio, output, event, and stream key—before the scheduled date.
Software or local encoding
An encoder on a computer can play or capture the planned material and send it to the scheduled event. This gives you direct control over the sequence, but the computer, encoder, and internet connection must remain available for the broadcast. Monitor the feed, especially if the event is long or scheduled outside your usual working hours.

Dedicated hardware playout
YouTube’s encoder documentation lists AJA HELO Plus and describes its PlayToStream functionality as a way to schedule prerecorded media for streaming directly to YouTube Live. This is a specialist hardware example, not a requirement for ordinary event scheduling. Check the manufacturer’s current instructions and confirm that the device’s output matches your event setup. Cloud playout
A cloud service can keep a prerecorded feed running without relying on a computer at home, but compare the service’s documented YouTube support, sequencing controls, recovery behavior, storage, and cost before choosing one. The sources cited here do not establish current prices or a comparative test of cloud services.

Plan the holiday schedule and promote it
Choose dates and times for the audience you intend to serve, and confirm the observances against a current official calendar before publishing a complete holiday schedule. The historical government examples below illustrate holiday programming, but they are not a current calendar or an exhaustive list.
- On January 26, 2022, the Press Information Bureau documented Doordarshan Republic Day live coverage beginning at 9:15 AM, with YouTube availability and a playlist link: PIB’s Republic Day release.
- On August 15, 2021, PIB promoted a DD National playlist containing multiple Independence Day livestreams: PIB’s Independence Day release.
These examples show ways broadcasts have been presented around Republic Day and Independence Day; they do not confirm a current Doordarshan schedule. Check each event’s current details before sharing or directing viewers to it.

Once your event is scheduled, share its watch-page link early. YouTube says a scheduled stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming, where viewers can choose Notify me. Its live scheduling guidance also recommends accounting for notable local or global holidays, introducing your livestream schedule, and communicating changes. - State the event’s date, start time, and time zone in the announcement.
- Describe whether viewers can expect a live presentation or prerecorded programming.
- Post an update if the schedule changes, and make sure the event details and shared link remain accurate.
