YouTube’s Loop control is for a viewer’s playlist playback; it does not restart a creator’s encoder-fed broadcast. First check whether the live broadcast actually ended or only one viewer’s playback stopped.
First, identify what stopped
Open the live watch page or YouTube Live Control Room and check the broadcast status. If YouTube shows the stream as ended, the incoming feed may have stopped. If the broadcast remains live but playback stopped for one viewer at the end of a playlist, check that viewer’s playlist repeat control instead.
This distinction matters because YouTube’s encoder workflow sends a stream URL and key to encoder software. YouTube’s instructions say, “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” A viewer’s playlist Loop button controls playback on that viewer’s device; it does not control the creator’s source queue. If you are watching an ordinary YouTube playlist
Turn on playlist repeat in the player you are using. YouTube documents different controls for desktop, Android, and TV or game console; interface placement can change between app versions.

Desktop
- Open a video that belongs to the playlist.
- Expand the playlist panel.
- Click Loop so the playlist repeats continuously.
Android
- Start a playlist.
- Tap Loop in the playlist control box below the video.
- Check the icon state: a second tap switches to repeating only the current video, shown by a “1” in the loop icon. For the full list to repeat, use the playlist-loop state rather than the single-video state.
TV or game console
- While the playlist is playing, press down on the remote or controller to show the controls.
- Select Repeat until the label reads Repeat • Playlist.
These are playback controls for the person watching. They will not make an encoder restart a creator’s source media. See YouTube’s playlist playback help for the documented controls.
If your live broadcast ends when the source playlist ends
Check the source or encoder software that plays and sends your prerecorded media. The exact menu depends on the software; YouTube does not provide a universal source-playlist loop switch, and no particular encoder is specified here.

- Check the queue. Confirm the playlist contains the intended media and is not configured to stop after the last item.
- Enable repeat for the source playlist. Look for the software’s repeat, loop, or continuous-playback setting. Make sure it repeats the whole queue, not just the current video, if you want the full playlist to restart.
- Confirm the encoder is still sending. Check the encoder’s status and YouTube Live Control Room after the playlist reaches its end. If the broadcast has ended, verify that the encoder did not stop sending content.
- Check stream health if the feed dropped unexpectedly. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video and checking that local archive files are growing. Its streaming tips recommend upload bandwidth with 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate; that margin helps feed reliability but does not change playlist repeat behavior.
For encoder-specific menus, use the documentation for the software you actually run. YouTube identifies encoder streaming as a method for more advanced production; its general instructions cannot establish where another product’s loop control is located. Keep a separate recording of long streams
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a continuous broadcast, do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive as the only copy: keep a local archive or another recording workflow and check that files are being written. The 12-hour guidance is from YouTube Help; the page does not state a publication year. YouTube’s live stream archiving help has the current policy details.
