Short answer: YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to live stream. But verification alone does not determine every limit: computer streaming depends on feature-access level and daily limits, mobile streaming requires at least 50 subscribers, and YouTube also caps how many streams can run at the same time. These are YouTube’s stated rules as checked on October 3, 2026; its Help pages do not display publication dates, and policies can change.
Does a YouTube channel have to be verified to live stream?
Yes. YouTube’s general live-streaming setup guidance says a channel must be verified and must have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube also says streamers must be at least 16 years old. Verification does not override an active restriction, nor does it grant every feature or remove every limit. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
“Verified” can refer to different things in YouTube’s help materials. The general live-stream requirement is channel verification; computer live-streaming availability is also described by feature-access tiers, including phone verification for intermediate access and additional qualification for advanced access. Check the channel’s own eligibility status rather than assuming one verification badge or step unlocks all streaming methods.
What are the limits for computer streaming?
YouTube’s feature-access table describes computer live streaming as available with intermediate access after phone verification, subject to a “Limited daily limit.” Advanced access offers a “Higher daily limit” after qualifying channel history or identity verification. The table does not publish numerical values for either daily limit, so there is no supported universal number of computer streams a channel can start per day.

What are the mobile live-streaming requirements?
Mobile streaming has a separate subscriber threshold. YouTube lists these requirements for creating a mobile live stream:

- At least 50 subscribers.
- A verified channel with live streaming enabled.
- No live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- A supported mobile operating system and device.
Enabling a first mobile live stream can take up to 24 hours. If you have fewer than 50 subscribers, meeting the general verification requirement does not make mobile live streaming available. You can review the current device and account requirements on YouTube Help: Create a live stream on mobile.
Why can a mobile stream have a limited audience?
For a channel with more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit the number of viewers for a mobile live stream and set its archive to private by default. Reaching 1,000 subscribers does not necessarily remove the audience limit immediately; YouTube says it may take several weeks to lift. Falling below 50 subscribers removes access to mobile live streaming.

These safeguards concern mobile streaming and audience reach. They are separate from whether the channel is verified and from the daily limits for computer streaming.
How many YouTube live streams can run at once?
YouTube states that a channel can have up to 10 active streams at a time, with up to three active streams using the same stream key. These are simultaneous-stream caps, not daily creation limits. Hitting either cap prevents another stream from starting until an active stream ends. The limits are described in YouTube Help’s live-streaming setup guidance.

How restrictions affect live-stream access
A live-stream restriction can block access regardless of subscriber count or verification status. YouTube says a strike prevents streaming for 14 days. While a restriction is active, you cannot use another channel to stream; doing so to get around the restriction is not a workaround. YouTube’s guidance on restrictions and daily-limit retry advice is available at Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Quick checks if YouTube will not let you go live
- Computer stream unavailable: Check YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and confirm the channel’s current access level. Computer streaming may have a daily limit; YouTube does not publish a numerical count in the cited feature-access table.
- Mobile stream unavailable: Confirm you have at least 50 subscribers, a supported device and operating system, channel verification, and live streaming enabled. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time mobile activation.
- Mobile audience seems capped: If your channel has more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may be applying its mobile audience safeguard. After reaching 1,000 subscribers, removal may take several weeks.
- Another stream will not start: Check whether the channel already has 10 active streams or the stream key already has three. End an active stream before trying again.
- Streaming is disabled after a policy issue: Review the restriction and its duration in YouTube Studio. Do not attempt to stream through another channel while the restriction is active.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the channel is eligible and you want pre-recorded videos to keep playing as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. This does not bypass YouTube’s channel eligibility, restrictions, or stream caps. Try StreamNeo free.
